Off to the Big Apple!

Hello from the BoltBus on the way to NYC! More on that later :)

I had another great restaurant week dinner last night! Three of my best girlfriends and I went to The Bombay Club, a swanky Indian place downtown.

005

We each ordered different things and took tastes of everyone else’s food to maximize deliciousness :)

I was feelin’ the vegetarian food after my red meat extravaganza the night before, so I started with the Aloo Tikki Ragda, which was potato, chickpeas, ginger, and cumin with a date chutney.

008

This was amazing — it seriously could probably have been an entree though. So much food, even after sharing! No idea what the green stuff was, but it was good. I scraped off the raw onions — yick!

For my entree, I ordered the Bombay Thali, which was market fresh vegetables with paneer and dal. It was beautiful AND delicious!

009

Mmmmmm… sorry it’s blurry, the lighting was bad!

010

I love tasting plates like this where you have a hundred different things to eat. Makes the meal so much more fun! :) Even with sharing, we didn’t make it through much more than half of this, though!

011

And lastly, I got the Rabri for dessert, which was heaven in a martini glass.

015

Milk pudding with fresh blueberries? Hell to the yes. We all tried it and couldn’t figure out what flavoring it was, besides awesome. Fun texture, too. :)

Dinner was so good that all of us left feeling overly stuffed. I feel like Indian food must expand in your stomach or something because we were all SO full! I didn’t even come close to finishing my dishes, either! I think I’m done with massive meals for awhile, lol.

Anyway, after another five miler this morning on my favorite trail, now I’m New York City bound! I’m heading up there for a little mini reunion with two of my girlfriends, Bec and Dawn, from when I taught English in Prague.

Bec was actually my very first friend in Prague — we were randomly assigned to the same flat during our TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) training course, and when I arrived two days before the course we were the first two there! I literally threw my stuff inside and we headed out to explore :)

Here’s the two of us later on in the year at the Prague National Gallery for a symphony orchestra concert. We’re so classy ;)

She’s Aussie (teaching in England at the moment and came over from there) and I’m so excited to hear her accent again :)

Dawn and I met because we had mutual friends back in the U.S. who discovered that two of their friends were leaving for Prague at the same time! She’s from NYC and moved back this summer, around the time I left.

The three of us are friends because we discovered our mutual love for David Bowie in Labyrinth, Family Guy, and making ridiculously unattractive faces in pictures. ;)

Have fun in NYC!! Btw, your pics of Prague are so beautiful. I had a chance of visiting there last year for a few days while I lived in Europe. I had some of the best goulash there and potato pancakes. Yup…for me it was always about the food

  18. 18

hahahaha, what great pictures! And I’m so jealous you are a part of restaurant week; I used to spend hours looking at menus when I was in town for Boston’s restaurant week a couple of summers ago!

The green sauce on the first indian dish is a chutney that is made primarily from cilantro and serrano chile peppers.

The rabri you had for dessert was most likely flavored with cardamom and maybe a bit of saffron too. Both of those spices are pretty typical in indian desserts.

Sweet! Thanks for the info :) -Anne
