Show Me the Wine!

Ah, wine. How we love thee!

006

(From top left: Jenn, Lisa, Krista, Janice, Megan, Beth, Turner, Sarah, Beth, Sarah (the bride!), me!)

We all had a blast yesterday celebrating my friend Sarah’s imminent departure from single-dom (she’s second from the right in the picture below)!

002

The party started bright and early at 11:30 a.m. at Chrysalis Vineyards.

003

It was a beautiful day to be out in the boonies of Virginia!

008 004

Our second stop was Swedenburg Estate Vineyard!

009

We enjoyed lunch with a beautiful view of the vineyards :)

005

And our last stop, and my favorite of the three wineries due to the friendly staff and cool vibe, was a newer winery called Quattro Goomba’s Winery.

011

Apparently quattro goomba means “four friends” in Italian :) Cute!

024

The place was really cool — it felt like we were hanging out in someone’s house! There was also a guy jamming on the guitar, which added to the cool atmosphere.

013  019

Plus, they had WINE SLUSHIES!!

022

Awesome :)

After our tasting, we bought a couple bottles of wine and some wine slushies and headed out to the picnic tables in the backyard to chill.

023

(Beth, please open your eyes next time. Thanks.)

:)

What a fun day! We continued the party later in the evening with dinner and drinks, although the drinks didn’t last too long since we were all pretty exhausted!

Happy (almost) wedding, Bitting! Can’t wait for the main event :)

018

One of my best college friends, Turner (remember her from my Austin adventures?) was here in town for the festivities (we missed you Kris!), and we decided to go for an impromptu run this morning!

036

The last time I tried to take Turner running on my favorite trail was during the aftermath of the DC snowpocalypse. Let’s just say we barely made it to the trail and after about 2 seconds of attempting to run in 500 feet of snow, we gave up. So she was pretty pumped to see the trail in all its glory today ;)

038

It didn’t disappoint!

039

We ran a speedy 5.34 miles in 44:09, for an average pace of 8:16. Yay! I think my speed is slowly starting to come back! (I totally lost it at the end of my half marathon training)

Stats:

  • Mile 1: 8:14
  • Mile 2: 8:20
  • Mile 3: 8:27
  • Mile 4: 8:14
  • Mile 5: 8:17
  • 0.34 nubbin pace: 7:40 (woo!)

Disclaimer: we took a short (untimed) walking break at the turnaround point to stalk a random bridal photo shoot going on ;)

Before Turner hit the road, I made us a quick lunch.

Hummus and veggie pita sandwiches (does anyone else go through hummus like it’s going out of style?!):

042

And salads! Mixed greens, feta, tomato, green beans:

041

Topped with a drizzle of hemp oil, fresh lemon juice, and cracked sea salt and pepper. Yum!

049

Hope you all had great weekends, too! I’m trying to finish up some more BioChem studying before I hit the hay. My final exam is Friday — it’s going to be a long week!

Wow – congrats on your run – particularly after a day of wine tasting!!!

  2. 2

I think a winery event for a bachelorette party is such a fun and classy way to go! I wish my friend that is getting married in September did that. Instead we are partying in our old college town the weekend after classes start back up. Yeah….woo for hanging out with a bunch of people using fake IDs. Haha!

  3. 3

Holy crap. My 7-11 seriously needs a wine slurpee machine.

  4. 5

I love wine tasting with big groups of friends!! Such a fun idea for a bachelorette party. Congrats to the bride!!

  5. 6

What a great idea for a bachelorette party! Lovely ladies and wine make one amazing day! ;)

  6. 7

Wine slushies?! I want one! Seems like such a fun weekend!

  7. 8

I agree on wanting a wine slushie!!!

  8. 9

Looks like you had a fantastic wine tasting party :) Wine slushies seem much classier than the vodka infused slurpees I’d chug during college.

I eat hummus like it’s my job. Trader Joe’s has a tomato basil that is AMAZING. If you like olives, I recently made a simple hummus (chickpeas, garlic, tahini, garlic) then folded in 1/3 cup (or so) of kalamata olives. Soooooo yummy!

  9. 10

    Wine slushie….amazing.

    Good luck with your studying!!!

  10. 11

Looks like an amazing time, so sad I missed it. Especially since there were wine slushes YUM!

  11. 12

Awwww Biting is getting married. Everyone is growing up!

  12. 13

I love the Vineyards in Virginia. I’ve been to Chrysalis and loved it–the outdoor area was really relaxing. I’ll have to try Quattro Goomba’s next time I’m out that way!

  13. 14

wow, what a fun time! i can’t wait to go with my girlfriends to a winery soon…i think the tours are about to start up again out here!

  14. 15

Yay! Fun to see you this weekend and so glad we went for that run. Thanks again for the amazing lunch!

  15. 16

You can never go wrong with wine! I enjoyed some wineries/vineyards out in the western part of Virginia this weekend – it’s so beautiful out that way!

ps. I think you need some more peppercorns :)

  17. 19

    Awesome bachelorette party!
And yes, I INHALE hummus. I think it’s probably the food item I spend the most $ on (at least it feels like it…..). I really should just make a mountain of it myself to supply my needs for the week ;)

  18. 20

wine slushies?! now THAT is a bachelorette party! glad you ladies had fun! :)

  22. 24

Yaaay! Everyone looks so cute! So sad I couldn’t be there- thanks for the shout out! ;) Glad you guys finally made it to the trail after our brutal failed attempt during the bilzzard..

  23. 25

Thanks for the fun times!! Can you send me the pics you took of the weekend?? MWAH!!
