If you’re new to the blog, in mid-August I moved from Washington D.C. (well, Virginia) down to Chapel Hill, NC to completely change careers and pursue my dream of becoming a Registered Dietitian! I just started a Masters of Public Health in Nutrition at UNC and have 2.5 years of courses and dietetic internships ahead of me. So far so good! You can read more about my journey on my About Me page. :)

I had a FABULOUS day yesterday. I’m back in DC for the weekend to visit friends and family for an early birthday celebration (it’s on Tuesday). When I posted about my DC weekend plans, Kath commented that she would be here on Friday enroute to a wedding! We decided it was fate and we needed to play :)

(Feta Makes it Betta!!)

Kath’s blog was one of the very first healthy living/food blogs I started reading, back in… 2006?!… when she first started it. We became online friends (she used to work in PR, I used to work in PR, she went back to school to become an RD, I’m now finally going back to school to become an RD, etc…) and have met up a number of times over the years :)

Kath is staying with the lovely Emily, who just moved to DC from Charlotte! Emily and I first met back in July when she came up here to look for housing :) It was fun to see her again, too!

It was a GORGEOUS day yesterday, so we decided biking, walking, and sightseeing was in order! I met up with Kath, Emily, and their hubbies at Gravelly Point, a few miles into their bike ride.

And then we were off! We biked on the BEAUTIFUL Mount Vernon Trail along the Potomac River — one of my favorites — chatting and stopping for pictures along the way :)

002

Once downtown, we ditched our bikes and headed out on foot to explore!

Look — my two states as of late are right next to each other at the WW II Memorial!

027

We made our way towards the Washington Monument, where we had plans to meet up with Allie, another fun DC-area blogger!

Found her :) I heart bloggers!

We decided that “Mission: Find Sweetgreen was in order. What’s Sweetgreen? Only my favorite frozen yogurt place in the whole world. No big deal.

Our journey took us past the U.S. capitol!

And then — success :)

It was just as good as I remembered. So good that I dove in headfirst without taking a photo, heh.

And then — back we went! Walk, walk, walk, and then bike, bike, bike.  It was such a fabulous day and in beautiful weather, too. In total, we walked almost 7 miles and I biked about 7 as well — whew! My legs were pooped :)

The evening ended with a wonderful dinner at one of my favorite D.C. seafood restaurants, Sea Catch, with my mom and Matt. I basically fell into bed afterwards, content :)

I will leave you with this entertaining photo — look at all the people in the foreground:

Heh. People watching is the best — I always wonder what the heck everyone is doing! For example, what do you think the two people with their palms pressed together are doing?? Partner stretching? Heh.

Have a wonderful day — it’s gorgeous here again and I have plans for more outdoorsy fun, followed by a birthday dinner and drinks outing with my girls! I missed this city :)

Anne, your photos are terrific. Have fun and remember, after UNC, maybe you can go back to DC to practice your RD knowledge. Those 2.5 years will fly by, believe me.

Those pictures are beautiful. I lived 3.5 hours from DC my whole life and I’ve never made a visit. I think this just inspired me to do so. Maybe I’ll sign up for a race and have an even better excuse to visit the capital!

I had no idea you got your degree from UNC! I am currently a junior here! Such a wonderful place :)

That first picture looks sort of like a diving board!

Reading you guys’ posts about DC makes me miss living there. Do you plan to go back once you finish school?

What an awesome day. How nice that so many others were in the area. Thanks for sharing it!

I had a blast chatting (and WALKING) with you yesterday! So glad our spontaneous plans worked out. Have a wonderful birthday weekend, Anne P!

Glad to see you are having a good time in that beautiful city. Enjoy and happy (early) birthday. I hope you got a chance to check out my post I tagged you in yesterday. Have a great weekend!

  8. 11

I hope you are having an awesome pre-birthday celebration!!!!

  9. 12

Looks beautiful! Love the photos! Have a great weekend :)

    Looks like fun!!

I want to move to DC! Too bad you left. :( If I do, you will have to come visit ME! hehee :)

Oh ps, are you coming to Tampa for Thanksgiving again this year? I am doing a half mary on the sunday before, and I may do that turkey trot again!

You and Kath are always an inspiration. I needed that today. I’ve been unable to walk since 7/30/10 when I broke my ankle and had to have surgery. I’m now in a walking cast with weight bearing as tolerated. Not much is tolerated yet. I’d love to go for a long walk today. The weather is perfect for it. Beam me other ways to keep up the exercise so I don’t lose the conditoning I’ve built up. I bought an 8lb kettlebell today and hope there are some upper body moves that don’t require the legs. Ya’ll think about me.

I’m so sorry to hear about your ankle – keep your head up and hang in there. You’ll be back outside before you know it! :) And in the meantime – keep up the arm strength training!

  12. 18

SO MUCH FUN! So glad we got to hang out again. Call me next time you are up, and I promise I will come to the C&O Canal. :) Happy early birthday!!

  13. 19

    So glad we could plaaaay!

  14. 20

such a fun meetup! I wish I could have joined you!!! :D

  15. 21

Anne you take beautiful photos! Looks like you ladies had a wonderful day!

Needless to say I’ve already broken the “no froyo” idea for the month of September. The obsession can be traced back to Sweetgreen and their Stoneyfield-soft ‘n tart-crack! ;)

These pictures are beautiful. And making me a little DC-homesick…
