Hello from D.C.!
This morning, I went to visit an old friend — the C&O Canal trail
The C&O Canal is awesome because it goes FOREVER. South to Georgetown, and north all the way into Maryland and Great Falls Park (LOVE)!
I also have a special place in my heart for this trail because I’ve laid out a TON of miles on it. My friend Ashley (who I’m seeing for dinner tonight!) and I did the majority of our long training runs here when training for the Army Ten Miler last fall, Cherry Blossom 10 Miler in the spring, AND our half marathon (of death) in June! Whew!
I’ve run out here:
- when it was freezing (literally — kids were playing hockey on the canal!)
- when it was just for fun
- when it was snowy
- when I didn’t feel so great
- when I did feel great
- when it was really muddy
- when I was all by myself
- when I was with a friend (more often than not!)
- when someone stole my water bottle
And many, many more times Great running memories out here.
My legs were feeling a bit sore and stiff today (I did an awesome 6 mile trail run on Monday and a KILLER power yoga class on Tuesday night in Chapel Hill), so for today’s adventure, I decided to run when I felt like it, walk when I felt like it, and stop to take pictures, too
I ended up covering about 5 miles in an hour. Sounds good to me! It was gorgeous out, with signs of fall’s arrival everywhere:
I spent the rest of the morning working on biostats homework (sadly even though it’s break, I have a ton of work to do), and now I’m gearing up to head out and run some errands. But first — my delicious lunch
Two eggs scrambled with tomato and a little peppery deli turkey, atop toast:
And a wonderful arugula and spinach salad topped with sugar snap peas, beets, green peppers, feta, and balsamic vinaigrette:
Have a good one!
