Washington D.C. Photos & Lunch at Teaism

Good morning!

You guys rock — thank you so much for all the great feedback regarding my new business card logo options! You all made it hard to decide — and clearly I should have been smarter and made a poll so we could have visually seen the responses! Oh, well. It appeared that #4 emerged as the style winner, and lots of you were fans of the purple color from #5 since it matches my theme. The blue on blue was also popular though… so I decided perhaps a combination of the two!

Drum roll, please — here is the official new fANNEtastic food logo! What do you guys think? :) Do you think I should have Bailey make the “anne” in all CAPS like I usually write it? Or is it sufficient/cleaner looking to just have it in a different color?

Again — major thanks to the awesome Bailey Doehler for her graphic design genius! If you’re in the market for some graphic design work, check her out. She’s nice AND talented :) She’s going to get to work making the business cards now that we have an official logo — stay tuned to see the final product! I can’t wait.

Anyway! Yesterday, one of my college roommates and BFF’s, Turner, took the bus down from Philadelphia for the day to see some of the current art exhibits here in DC (she’s in an Art History Ph.D. program). Yay!

013

Before she went to the galleries, I came downtown and met her for lunch and some sightseeing!

016

First stop — the White House! It was cold, but nice and sunny, so a pretty good day for walking around the city.

010

012

I think there was some dust on my lens — oops!

011

Below is a view of one of the gardens to the right of the White House where they film a bunch of the President’s statements — check out all those cameras and lights! (And the Washington Monument saying hello behind them!)

017

After saying hello to the White House, we headed to lunch at one of my favorite cafes in the city, called Teaism.

026

Teaism has a cool vibe — trendy and hipster, but with a creative, hippie Asian-inspired menu. I ordered the Shrimp Ochazuke, which is a Japanese brown rice & tea soup with shrimp, veggies & wasabi.

019

The coolest part about this was that they gave you a pot of green tea to pour into the bowl as the broth of the soup! That’s why it’s called “tea soup”! Neat.

023

Yum :) Cool tilty bowl, too!

018 021

We also shared a big unpictured salted oatmeal raisin cookie, which was delicious. I’m really loving this salted oatmeal cookie trend lately!

After lunch, I walked down to the mall/museum area with Turner to take some more fun pictures (and to continue chatting — I missed her)!

I heart DC :)

Such a fun day with a great friend. Turner is coming to visit me in January down in Chapel Hill, yay!

I’m off to relax for a bit and then I’m meeting friends for lunch AND dinner! Lots of eating out so far this vacation. And lots of reading! I loved all your great comments on my recent favorite books list post — “The Help” in particular was recommended by a lot of you, and it’s now first on my list of books to read! Can’t wait to check out some of the others you recommended, too.

Love the new logo and great DC photos! I love that city!

  2. 2

The logo looks great! I would keep “anne” lowercase. It does look cleaner that way and since it’s a different color than the rest of the word it stands out enough without needing to be uppercase. :)

  3. 3

Love the new logo! I think it looks great with lower-case letters. “anne” stands out enough with it being a different color.

  4. 4

I like Anne lowercased for sure. The logo looks great! Awesome colors!

  5. 5

It’s funny because I’ve gotten that exact dish at Teaism and I didn’t realize the hot tea on the side was the “broth” and I complained that they brought me hot tea rather than the iced tea I had ordered… You live, you learn. :)

  6. 7

You’re making me want to spend a day in DC sightseeing! It’s been a few years since I’ve done that. One of your pictures has the turn I take on Pennsylvania Avenue every morning. :) Teaism is a great lunch spot! I love it.

  7. 8

Yay! It was so fun to see you yesterday! I also have to second the recommendations for “The Help.” Have you read “Water for Elephants?” I think you would really like it too.

Plus, love the logo, and you know I think you should keep it lowercase. ;)

  8. 10

    Looks like lots of fun!!!
    I looove the logo!!!!

  9. 11

Aw, salty oat cookie from Teaism. Things I need to figure out how to make at home.

  10. 12

Tea Soup sounds both awful and awesome at the same time.

Just last night a friend was telling me that her dad puts iced tea in his cereal instead of milk. WEIRD.

  11. 14

I think you made a terrific choice and I would leave it just like it is.
On Tweet you said you and Matt exchanged gifts last night. What did he give to you

    Congrats on your grades.

  12. 15

Awesome photos- Girl Kris & I went out for dinner last & reminiscing about the Dickinson Divas, miss you both!

  13. 17

Fun new logo. I think you should keep “anne” in small caps – the color difference makes it stand out enough. The pictures make me want to visit DC so bad – I’ve never been!

  14. 18

    pho sho. hahahaha.
i like the new logo its cute!
i kinda agree with erika but whatever flows your boat!
Your soup looks good! SANS shrimp. Bleck.

  15. 19

Love the logo and color choices. I like that the “anne” is in small caps, stands out with the color change but it’s too intrusive.
I am pinching pennies a bit right now with Christmas around the corner, but I hope to get myself a “Will Run for Beer” and “Running is Cheaper than Therapy” for 2011. The beer shirt in green will be perfect for my fun St. Patty’s day 5k!

  16. 21

    Loved the new logo!
    Stunning pics :)

    Marilyn Lisenbee says:

Love the new logo. I think “anne” in all caps would look great.

We went to a new place down on the park in Quincy,Ill. today – Thyme Square.
It was wonderful. I had a creamed potato/parsnip soup and Joshua (our soldier boy) enjoyed a ham sandwich with Grier Cheese and apple chutney. I told Josh about your blog and how much I loved it. He and I both agreed – you would have loved Thyme Square.

Have a Very Merry Christmas. Anne.

  18. 24

Cute logo. I think you should keep anne lower case.

  19. 25

I love the new logo! :)

I just posted my own DC pictures on my site! ;) I was in the city today!

  20. 26

I love your new logo! I think the lower case letters really suit it much better than the upper case does.

  21. 27

Great to see all agreed on #4. And I guess lower case in fine. Glad you had such a nice time with Turner in DC. Great city, indeed!

  22. 28

    Looks like a great day!
And love, love, LOVE the new logo!

  23. 29

Yay! Glad you guys got together :)

  24. 31

Logo is adorable and your lunch looks delicious. I am a HUGE fan of the tilt-y bowls. They have similar ones at one of my favorite brunch spots and I’m always so tempted to steal them. Really I just need to find a set of my own.

  25. 32

I LOVE Teaism! Such a fun lunch spot. Have you tried their bento boxes?

The new logo looks wonderful! I actually really like the “anne” written in lowercase, and think the purple color adequately distinguishes it from the rest of “fannetastic.”

Glad you’re enjoying your time in DC!

  26. 34

That wasn’t dust on your lens, it’s what photographers call “Lens Flare”, it comes from the sun, when it’s coming into the lens at an angle and reflects of the glass of the lens. You can either change directions you are shooting, or get a sun shade.
Keep up the great work, love your pictures.

  27. 36

i like your logo choice! I would keep anne lowercase to go with the clean design. The purple makes your name pop enough to make it obvious.
