7 Mile Half Marathon Training Run – Check!

A long run followed by a leisurely brunch with good friends = my favorite way to spend a Saturday morning.

001

This morning, the girls and I did our second half marathon long training run — 7 miles! It was made even more awesome by the fact that my college BFF Turner is here visiting! :)

003

004

She joined me and my grad school friends for our long run this morning — it worked out perfectly that she’s a runner, too :)

002

It was super cold but we had an awesome run — I felt great and it was fun to run through Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and parts of UNC’s campus to show Turner the sights!

Splits:

  • Mile 1: 8:59
  • Mile 2: 9:02
  • Mile 3: 8:34
  • Mile 4: 8:37
  • Mile 5: 8:57
  • Mile 6: 9:17 (massive long gradual hill)
  • Mile 7: 8:32 (feeling great & ended with a sprint!)

Yay! Our overall pace was 8:53, for a total time of 1:02. We beat out last week’s 6 mile pace by 2 seconds (we ran almost the exact same course today) — sweet!

And then — it was time for brunch! Yessssssssss. As you know, we decided last week that post-long run brunches will be mandatory for the duration of our training ;) We’re going to try a new place each week! Today’s adventure: Elmo’s Diner!

I had the farmer’s omelette, which came with cheddar cheese, broccoli, tomato, and mushroom. It was just okay — the veggies were definitely a frozen mix, and the egg part was a little tough.

But the yummy biscuit and cinnamon apples (in the back) made up for the sub par omelette :)

007

I hear their pancakes are also awesome — perhaps next time I’ll try those instead!

Turner and I are off to explore around town and then going out for dinner and drinks with some of the girls tonight. Have a great Saturday!

That omlet is making my mouth water!
Your running group looks like a lot of fun! What great running times — I’m horrible at running.

Post long run meals are the best thing to look forward to! I love planning something fun after a long run, it makes me go faster!

  3. 3

I love looking at your UNC pictures-I went there for undergrad. Elmo’s was my favorite restaurant.

  4. 4

That does sound like a great way to spend Saturdays. :)

How fun! :D I would love to find a group of people to run my long runs with! I did 8 miles this morning, alone and while it was nice, sometimes you want someone to talk to! :D

I loveeee that you guys get brunches post run! I would totally run faster for food :)

OH my gosh you went to Elmo’s!?!?! My husband and I fondly look back on our visit to Elmo’s and can’t wait to visit (or maybe live?) in NC again!

Good for you girlie!! It looks like a great group of girls to run with. I just found my own group this morning. It is definitely better than meeting with yourself to run!

I like the company and the brunch part

Great pictures. It looks like so much fun, I’m having a little “20′s” envy. Enjoy it!!
My 16 year old is in the basement with his friends now having a party….how did I get this old?

  13. 13

Too awesome! Great run (good times — pace improved by speed work, no doubt) and decent brunch, with an evening out with friends. Doesn’t get better than that, unless the omelette could be amp’d up, that is!

  14. 14

Congrats girl! I wish I had a group of girls to run with, but unforch the dreadmill is my running buddy:) And whoever gets the awesome opportunity to run next to me at the gym and listen to me singing to my ipod!

Brrrr! It looks like it was chilly out this morning! Hope the running kept you warm!

  16. 16

I did 7 today too! And only a little slower! So nice that you have a group to run with..very jealous.

Glad the run went well, Anne! Love the photos, too.

  22. 23

Especially that one of you opening the omelette!

  23. 24

fun fun! i love when people visit, because in showing them around, i always end up doing something fun that i’ve never done before either!

  24. 25

Loving the group pictures! Looks like a fun group to hang out with :)

Oh my gosh… 7 miles in one hour will be my next running goal… in about 2 months… hehe. I think that’s great you are able to run with girlfriends. As for me… I prefer to be alone when I run. For one… I’m slow! So I feel bad slowing down the team. And two… I can’t talk when I run… I am completely focused & in the zone and anybody who talks to me while I am running obviously has a death wish! haha.
