Terra Vita Food & Wine Event 2011

On Saturday, following our ridiculous 10k mud race, Matt and I cleaned up and classed it up to attend a fun food and wine event right here in Chapel Hill!

090

The event, called Terra Vita, was all about celebrating the local best in sustainable food and beverage. In their words, Terra Vita brings together “some of the finest biodynamic and organically-grown wines and microbrews in the world with some of the very best North Carolina chefs, known and celebrated for their outstanding reputations and chosen for their devotion and allegiance to locally-grown organic ingredients.” Sounds awesome, right? It was. :)

075

The event took place in a big tent (perfect since it was raining when we arrived) filled with tables where local food and drink vendors waited for us to enjoy what they had to offer.

071

077

We attended with my high school friend Hilary and her husband Brent, and we all had a great time tasting and sipping the day away!

092

I was STARVING after our race, so it was perfect timing for a food tasting. Chefs were in attendance from the following local restaurants/stores:

18 Seaboard

411 West

Acme Food & Beverage

Angelina’s Kitchen

Carolina Crossroads

Chapel Hill Creamery

Chef & The Farmer

Crook’s Corner

Escazu Artisan

Chocolates

Farmhand Foods

French Broad Chocolate Lounge

Glasshalfull

Green Planet Catering

Harvest Moon Grille

Hillsborough Cheese
Il Palio

Lucky 32 Southern Kitchen
Market Restaurant
On The Square
Organic Bakies
The Pig
Posana Cafe
Sandwhich

Table

Watts Grocery

Matt and I were excited to see a number of our local favorites (noted on my FAQ page) in attendance, as well as some that were new to us.

Everything was absolutely delicious. I think I made it to every single booth. No big deal.

Mmmm… The Pig. Their pulled pork BBQ sandwiches and slaw were so good!

078

LOVED these pumpkin and sweet potato muffins from Organic Bakies!

079

Chapel Hill Creamery has THE best cheese. Especially their smoked mozzarella! It tastes like BBQ but in cheese form.

080 081

These Anna Mae Breads sweet potato rolls filled with BBQ pulled pork and other deliciousness were one of the other major highlights of the day:

082

Bacon meatballs? Heck yes.

083

Sweet potato pastries + bacon? Double hell yes.

085

The wine was amazing, too. I didn’t try any of the beer since my glass was too busy with wine, but a Fat Tire guy was there and the boys were all over it.

Loved this wine:

And this one:

And many others that I neglected to photograph.

What an amazing day!

It was nice to have such a fun-filled Saturday because I spent all day yesterday studying biochem. We have our first big exam this morning — wish me luck! I just took a nice hour long walk this morning around my neighborhood with my notes — multitasking at its finest.

Unfortunately I’ll be spending all of today studying, too, because tomorrow morning is our first Medical Nutrition Therapy exam. Bust!

Have a good one. :)

Good luck on the exam!!! You are going to ROCK it. Also, I’d have been drunk, fat, and happy at that event.

Looks like so much fun. We went to the one in Asheville last year and it was wonderful. Good Luck on your test.

This looks like such a fun and delicious time! All the food looks amazing… And wine is always a good thing :). Good luck on your exams!

This looks so fantastic – I love festivals like this! Be smart for your exam today!

  8. 13

I don’t know how long it has been there, but I just found your PRESS Category on your home page. I like it.

  9. 15

Oohhhhh man, all that food looks so delicious! What a great weekend activity.

  10. 16

That does look like a lot of fun! I love smaller places that do fun things like that. Chicago just has too many people and too many restaurants! Overwhelming!

  11. 18

I love the chalkboards at the event! Good luck on your exam, I’m studying for clinical nutrition tonight too! Hello refeeding syndrome. :)

  12. 20

Getting to taste test all that fine food definitely sounds like a winning thing to do after a race. What a fun event.

I absolutely love your hair! Have you ever posted (or could you) how you style/do your hair? I think we have similar hairtypes – wavy/curly and thick. I’m wanting to get my hair cut soon and I’m totally lovin’ your style!

Thanks Becky! I am actually 100% wash and wear so there’s not really much to tell – the key for me though is having a good layered hair cut (if it’s cut poorly it will hang weird) and to NOT brush my hair when I get out of the shower. Brushing it will take out all of the curl and make it puffy. Just finger comb, scrunch, and go! I don’t usually use products or anything but if you wanted, there’s a ton of scrunching gel type products on the market.

Thanks for the reply and tips! Does your hair take a long time to dry? I usually shower in the morning and I hate having my hair wet for a good few hours into my work/school day.

  14. 25

Wow that looks like such a great event!
I would love to something like that, all the little samples look so delish!

  15. 26

What a fun event! The mini muffins look so good! :) I also love the chalkboards used for the displays!
