I hit the track this morning for my usual early Tuesday a.m. track workout!
Brrr it was a cold one again this morning — NC is weird because it gets just as cold (if not colder) than areas farther north overnight, but then gets a lot warmer during the day. It was 35 this morning when I met up with Elle — and it’s supposed to be 60 later today! So weird.
Colder weather meant it was time to break out my warm running gear! Gloves (from EMS like 6 years ago):
Long pants (from Lululemon — Christmas gift from my brother this past year!):
And of course a long sleeved shirt, too. I wore a thin long sleeved wicking shirt as well as a thin-ish zip up as you saw in the photo above. In addition, I wore a puffy coat in the car, to walk to and from the track, and for the first couple warm up laps.
Working out in cold weather is actually my favorite — it sucks to get out there and get started, but once you’re moving it’s awesome. SO much better than heat and humidity! One thing I’m not digging at the moment, however, is how pitch black it still is at 6:45 a.m. The sun didn’t come out to join us until about 7:15, so the first part of our workout was rather dark (thankfully there are some lights around nearby though so it wasn’t TOTALLY black).
Can’t wait for daylight savings — next weekend, right?
Anyway! We did the standard:
- Couple laps warm up
- Jog the curves, sprint the straights
- In between each sprinting lap, do a boot camp of sorts
- Couple laps warm down
We were out there for about 45 minutes and focused mainly on lateral leg exercises for our boot camp moves. (To see some of the moves we did, check out my lateral leg exercise workout video thingy from awhile ago — shot in Florida! Aw, I miss Florida.)
On the leg front, my right calf/shin/ankle is still not feeling amazing, but it’s better. I’m going to continue to ice/foam roll/wear my compression sleeve this week and see how I feel come the weekend. I’ll decide then whether or not to do a long run. Meh.
Time to head off to class! Today’s agenda includes Medical Nutrition Therapy class, studying for biochem all day long (exam #2 tomorrow!), and meeting a blog reader for dinner.
Have a great day!
