I have to share pictures from the amazing foodie dinner I had with my parents and our friends Jill, Scott, Natalie, and Gerry in D.C. last night!
Jill and Natalie are our very good family friends (the identical twins!) from Tampa — remember when we had both Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner at Jill and her husband Scott’s house back in 2009? They are awesome and just happened to be in town this weekend — perfect! We made plans for dinner and I braced myself for a foodie extravaganza. They are the ultimate foodies and always know all the hot places to eat!
They suggested we meet them for dinner at Plume in downtown DC — I’d never been there and was pumped to try it! We were seated in their beautiful wine room — check out all that wine:
When we sat down to dinner, I saw we had set menus in front of us — and look what it said at the top!
So sweet, right? Jill had called ahead and organized a delicious set menu for us and arranged to have the menus printed to say that. I was honored. She had even set up wine parings with each dish!
We had the most fabulous meal — it’s even more of a treat than usual to go out to fancy restaurants now since it’s something I don’t do often anymore, being on a student budget and all! Hello, massive loans.
First up — an amuse bouche! This was a risotto ball — delicious.
We also enjoyed some olives — fun how bright green they were!
I loved the fancy salt on the table, too — and this bird.
First up was a fettuccine pasta with asparagus and mushrooms.
Yum! The pasta was really thick — tasted homemade.
Next was a halibut cake with a white bean puree and slivered lemons — major yum. Especially loved the addition of the lemon — it tasted candied and went SO well with the other flavors.
Our final course (just a note — you can’t tell in the pictures but the portions were tiny, which was perfect for a large tasting menu!) was this AMAZING filet of prime beef, topped with a dusting of truffles and served with asparagus:
And some truffled potatoes they added on to the plate before we started — love truffles.
This was the best beef I’ve had in ages — absolutely perfectly cooked and the truffled peppery crust was divine.
Next up — a palate cleanser before dessert. This was a coconut sorbet topped with a passion fruit foam and it was seriously THE most amazing thing I’ve ever eaten. We ordered more we were so obsessed.
Followed by a tiny platter of desserts!
Mmm… mini cinnamon sugar donuts! And pumpkin apple marmalade, hot chocolate sauce, and ice cream. YUM.
We were also given this platter — the chocolate was filled with salted caramel — omg. Salted caramel is so hot right now and it’s easy to see why. So delicious.
Most amazing meal ever and I loved the wine pairings, too. We were there for 4+ hours so between that and the small portions sizes I didn’t leave feeling overly stuffed, either, which is always nice!
A HUGE thank you to Jill, Scott, Natalie, and Gerry for treating us to such an amazing dinner. I felt so spoiled — I wish Matt could have joined us, too!
Have a great Sunday night, friends!
