A Speedy 5 Miler + Brunch

Awesome run yesterday morning with my college BFF Turner!

Yes, we’re weird.

Turner, Kris, and I headed over to the Tobacco Trail in Durham for a late morning run. Kris set off on her own (she prefers running by herself and wanted to go with a slower pace), and Turner and I started out at what felt like a good clip. The first mile flew by; it felt like we were running fast but not crazy fast, and we were too busy chatting away to check our watches. When my watch beeped Mile 1 I looked down and was very surprised to see our pace as 7:56! Turner is a fast runner and I was feeling good, so we decided to see if we could do our entire planned 5 miles at a sub-8 minute mile pace. And what do you know? We did it. :) I felt great except for the last mile, which was hard. I was huffing and puffing, but determined to stay below an 8 minute mile. Success!

Splits:

  • Mile 1: 7:56
  • Mile 2: 7:59
  • Mile 3: 7:59
  • Mile 4: 7:41
  • Mile 5: 7:51

What an awesome run! A great reminder to push myself — you never know what these legs can do. Total distance: 5 miles. Total time: 39:28. Average overall pace: 7:53!

Maybe I’ve got a sub 1 hour 50 minute half marathon in me just yet! We’ll see.

After our respective runs, the girls and I headed straight over to Guglhupf Bakery in Durham for brunch!

Love this place and was excited to introduce it to the girls. They were big fans!

I had the frittata of the day — artichoke, spinach, and swiss cheese.

Yum. I also had some unpictured English Breakfast tea with milk. Perfect post-run feast!

The rest of the day was spent relaxing. We met up with my grad school girlfriends for dinner and then went to see “Iron Lady” — Meryl Streep’s latest in which she plays Margaret Thatcher, the first female Prime Minister of the UK. It’s a fascinating look into Thatcher’s life; Meryl Streep was amazing and the movie was very powerful. Highly recommended!

We have a holiday from school today for MLK Day. I just took the girls to the airport and now Matt and I are about to get in a workout! Have a good one, friends. :)

    In awe of your pace! I don’t think I’ve ever broken a 9:00 mile. :-P (Maybe after I have this baby.) At any rate, great work! Looks like you had a beautiful morning for a run.
