Almond Breeze Almond Milk Giveaway!

Morning, friends! Guess what?! Today is my last day of my clinical hospital internship! One more box checked and one step closer to (finally) being a Registered Dietitian. A number of you have asked what’s next for me on my grad school/RD journey — I’ll share more details soon, but basically I get next week off and then start my 10 week fall internship. My final internship — woot! It’s crazy — in some ways, I feel like this whole back to school journey has gone by really quickly, but on the other hand, it seems like FOREVER ago that I was just starting this blog, working on prerequisites, and applying to grad school. Thinking back to all I’ve accomplished in the past few years is pretty cool. Thank you to each of you for reading and following along on my journey — you inspire me to keep working hard!

I thought in honor of my last day at the hospital it would be fun to spread a little happiness to you all as well in the form of a giveaway and sweepstakes. :)

Almond Breeze contacted me earlier this week about hosting a giveaway and I was excited to hear from them because until this week, I’d actually never tried their product! I’ve tried soy milk, hemp milk, rice milk… but for some reason never almond milk. You guys know I’m a huge fan of real milk, but dairy alternatives are a fun way to mix it up and also essential, obviously, for vegans and those who are lactose intolerant. It’s also nice to keep something like this in the pantry in case you run out of regular milk and need it for breakfast or a recipe! Almond Breeze can be used just like you would use milk — over cereal, in smoothies (definitely adding it to my next Vitamix creation!), and even in baked goods. It’s lactose, soy, and gluten free, and available in original, vanilla, and chocolate as well as a number of unsweetened flavors, both in refrigerated and shelf-stable packaging. Apparently the newest addition to the Almond Breeze family is an almond coconut milk — doesn’t that sound delicious?! Must try that next time!

Almond milk has 50% more calcium than real milk and is also a good source of vitamins D, E, & A — the only downside is that it has a lot less protein than real milk.

I tried the Almond Breeze this morning in my cereal. The verdict? Very tasty! Good smooth texture (I can’t stand milk substitutes that are chalky) and a nice flavor with a hint of nuttiness.

IMG_6235

You know you’re a food blogger when… you find yourself getting really good at taking photos with a bulky DSLR in one hand while pouring liquids into bowls with the other hand. Clearly I’m too classy for tripods, especially at 7 a.m.

Anyway! In addition to the giveaway (details on that next), I also wanted to mention a fun sweepstakes that Almond Breeze has going on right now — the prize is a year’s worth of Almond Breeze and a $1,000 home store gift card to spruce up your kitchen — I’m looking at all of you who said you wanted to buy Vitamixes yesterday! :) I love this sweepstakes not only because the prize is awesome but because the goal of it is to spread happiness — to enter, you simply go to facebook.com/almondbreeze and spread the good by saying something nice to a Facebook friend. You never know how much you might make someone’s day with a simple comment, right? :)

And now, for my giveaway! I’m giving away 10 coupons for Almond Breeze almond milk so you guys can try it, too! Here’s how to enter to win — each option is an additional entry.

  1. Leave a comment on this post sharing what someone else did lately to make your day, or vice versa — what was the last compliment you gave or nice thing you did for someone else?
  2. Follow me on twitter if you aren’t already, then tweet about this contest (include a link to this post and @fannetasticfood). Leave another comment telling me you tweeted.
  3. If you have a blog, mention and link back to this contest in one of your posts, and then leave another comment letting me know you blogged about it.

Be sure to post a separate comment for each entry option you do.

U.S. residents only, please. Good luck! I’ll pick 5 winners (who will each receive 2 coupons) and announce them in my post on Monday, August 13.

Happy Friday!

My husband recently came into the kitchen and saw me mopping the floor and he took the mop from me and finished the job. I was unaware he knew where the kitchen was. Thank you honey. I love Almond Breeze, I use it all the time. I don’t drink regular milk and never have, so when I discovered this product I was elated.

Love coconut milk, so I would be excited to try almond! Something nice I have done lately is to make nice comments on people’s facebook pages when I like something instead of keeping it to myself!

Yesterday a co-worker helped me brainstorm ideas for a project that I am struggling with. She didn’t have to do that because she has her own projects to worry about, but it was very nice that she took the time to help me out!

  10. 10

I went back to work this week after 14 weeks of maternity leave. A friend, who I don’t stay in touch with much, and who recently had a baby and went back to work, messaged me to tell me she was thinking of me on my first day back. It was rough going back, but my friend’s message was so nice!

  11. 11

Yesterday a coworker left a sweet treat on my desk for no reason, and I in turn paid another coworker a compliment, someone I don’t necessarily talk to often. It’s nice to be nice! :)

This is such a great giveaway! Almond milk is a staple in our house as we’ve been trying the Paleo diet for the last few months. A Crossfit coach at my box complimented my improved pushups last night, and it felt pretty darn great. :)

Is it okay if the thing I did isn’t for a human? Last weekend my husband and I were on our way to a friends house with our dogs when we saw someone run over a pigeon. Probably not a huge deal to most people, but we frantically made a U turn on an incredibly busy street, blocked traffic, and scooped the bird into a box. Then we located a bird sanctuary (one that was open after 6pm on a Sunday – what the heck are the odds of that happening?!) and figured out a way to keep the poor little guy safe in a car with two dogs on the way there. The good news is we made it and they said they think he’ll be okay.
Also, around our house we go through an obscene amount of almond milk so winning this would be AWESOME :)

I love Almond Breeze! I have it at least once a day :) My husband is currently deployed and I’m home with three kids. I have this awesome friend, also a deployed spouse, who makes my day! She lives far away but somehow knows exactly when to send a card or write me a message. She always take time out of her day to brighten mine with funny stories, jokes, or support! We also both have children on the autism spectrum so her support has been invaluable these days! She’s a gem :)

I have a friend who is running the Disneyland Half Marathon for Team in Training, and I am walking it for the AT Children’s project. Both of us have fundraising minimums to make, So I suggested that we sponsor each other. Both are good causes and it feels better to sponsor someone else’s journey rather than your own. My friend agreed and now we have both met our fundraising goals. It was a win win situation.

I love almond breeze my husband and I have only used almond milk for the last couple of years, and we could really use a new dishwasher:)

A nice compliment: the mother of one of my youngest son’s friends told me that she noticed how well we kept an eye on our kids and that they were well behaved. When you’re a mom (and of four kids!) you sometimes wonder if you are doing the right thing (we happen to be more on the strict and old fashioned side). It’s reassuring when someone else tells you that you are doing a good job.

  72. 73

Congratulations on finishing your internship! I love Almond Breeze and use it all the time. I came down to Florida to help with my newest granddaughter and they gave me a Kindle Fire for helping. That was one of the top things on my “want-to-have” list.

On father’s day, my sisters and I went out to breakfast in memory of my dad, who passed away two years ago yesterday. The old man sitting behind us talked to us briefly, then paid for our entire meal, never knowing why we were there or what the day meant to us. It was amazing.

  96. 97

I always like when people let me in when I’m driving in traffic – so I try to do it, too. Niceness can go around :)

Almond Breeze is amazing and I love the stats. A great alternative!

  108. 109

Blue Diamond Almond Milk is the only milk I buy lately. My college roommate made a special visit this weekend to watch my son at my race this morning because my husband couldn’t be there. It was really sweet of her to do that for me. Yesterday I packed up a big bag of baby clothes for a friend and also gave her my son’s car seat that we no longer use. She was so grateful to receive the gifts.

It may sound simple, but as I was putting our son to bed tonight, my husband cleaned up the entire kitchen. Usually that’s my “job” and it was such a wonderful surprise to be able to head out for my nightly run without stopping to clean up first! Simple things!

  114. 115

I made my mom a surprise batch of brownies to thank her for always being there for me- through good, bad, messy, funny and awkward times– and all the moments in between.

    Cellabella says:

This is probably silly, but yesterday I tried out a new makeup cream and asked my husband to be honest about how it looked. Normally he always tells me I’m beautiful which is really truly wonderful of him. But what was great was that this time, he told me that the makeup wasn’t quite my color. I appreciated his honesty! Made my day because I knew that I could trust him to support me in the best way possible.

  121. 122

Yay, Anne! How exciting!! Congrats on finishing your clinical rotation! Wow, it does seem like the time went by fast! I feel like it was yesterday when you announced that you’re starting the internship! Community rotation now?
And what a great giveaway! I’m already following you on twitter!

  122. 123

I recently got married and moved away. My friends have been amazing – constantly checking up on me and making frequent visit (it’s a long trip!).

Cereal and almond milk is always an awesome snack/breakfast!

  123. 124

This past week was really rough, and my friend from our women’s bible study group texted and told me she prayed for me. It made all the difference in the world.

We were stuck in a car for a long time today and since I haven’t been able to do my normal exercise routine for awhile, my boyfriend offered to take a long walk with me when we got home even though he’s not a fan of walking. It made my day :)

  126. 127

Congrats on finishing your internship. I love almond milk, and used some in a curry I made tonight.

I recently received a wonderful unexpected package from a friend filled with lots of goodies.

  127. 128

As simple as this is a complete stranger made my day yesterday. I went out for my 7 mile run a little later than normal yesterday and it was hot and humid. I ran by a local park when I was just about home. There was a lady passing out cold juice boxes and mini things of water to several of the kids that were there for a party. As I was coming up she grabbed a water and walked up to the sidewalk and handed it to me as I passed by and said “I don’t know how you are running, I’m hot just sitting here.” I of course said thank you and was so happy that I got a little much needed water.

  128. 129
  129. 130

Today I spent a lot of time in the kitchen to make my sick boyfriend feel better, even after a long day!

  130. 131

Congrats, Anne! That is a huge accomplishment. Around 3:00 today I was waiting for a bus in Friendship Heights and started chatting with the teenager sitting next to me- he mentioned that he’d been working all day but left his wallet at home and hadn’t eaten breakfast or lunch! So I gave him the granola bar I had in my purse, and he was so appreciative. It totally made my day, I only wish I’d had more to give him!
