Granola Basics Review & Giveaway!

Morning, friends!

I tried out a fun new product this weekend — Granola Basics from Nuts About Granola!

IMG_6392

My friend Lauren is helping with the social media marketing for Nuts About Granola and sent me a box of their new box mix granola to test out at home. Nuts About Granola has among the most delicious granola I’ve ever tasted (try the Muddy Waffles flavor — my fave!), so I figured it would be fun to try my hand at making some of it fresh at home.

IMG_6397

Granola Basics is a brand new product of theirs — it’s basically a ready to go mix of the dry ingredients of granola, and then all you have to do is add your own sweetener (1/2 to 1 cup total of honey, agave, or maple syrup) and any other add ins you want like extra nuts or dried fruit! Easy as can be.

IMG_6394

The ingredients list on the box was stellar — yay for no weird unpronounceable ingredients. Just simply what you’d put in to granola at home! Love the addition of dried lemon peel — mmmm.

IMG_6395

This product is perfect for someone busy or with time constraints because you get homemade granola without having to fuss with measuring out all the dry ingredients first. All I did was add 1/2 cup honey (this was perfect sweetness for me — 1 whole cup would have been way too sweet), a few spoonfuls of extra ground flaxseed for good measure, and a few hefty shakes of cinnamon. I figured I’d keep it simple!

IMG_6396

Mix it together, spread it on a baking sheet, and that’s it! Pop it in the oven.

IMG_6399

18 minutes later, and voila!

IMG_6402

That was easy.

IMG_6408

As an unrelated side note, how adorable is the little yellow Le Creuset honey pot in the background?! My friend Megan gave it to us as a gift at my wedding bridal shower and I’m obsessed. :)

IMG_6409

We enjoyed some of the granola immediately for test testing purposes, of course.

IMG_6403

Matt grabbed a few handfuls while I was attempting to photograph it, and I had about 1/4 cup serving of it on top of a mix of nonfat plain Greek yogurt and cottage cheese (so good together) plus some fresh blueberries. The verdict? Delicious! It also made our apartment smell more amazing than it ever has before while it was baking.

IMG_6406

Next time I want to try adding in some dried fruit or maybe some extra slivered almonds! Yum. The possibilities are endless! I love that you can get creative with it (and also control how sweet it is), but it’s still super quick and easy to make since the dry ingredients are already prepped and you don’t need to worry about measuring add-ins except for the sweetener.

Thanks again to Nuts About Granola for sending me a box to sample!

Want to try a box yourself? Just leave a comment on this post telling me what you would mix in to make your own perfect granola if you won. It’s a special mix of all sort of cereals (barley, oatmeal, grain, flaxseed and rye) combined with dried fruits: dates, bananas, pineapple, papaya, apricots and raisins. So, I put 7 oz. of muesli in a medium size bowl together with fat yogurt, about 7.5 oz. and 0.5 oz. honey. I blend them manually very well, and I let them to rest for about an hour to dip the cereals till they become like a paste. It’s a Yummie nourishing evening meal.
