Run Happy & Chapel Hill Bound!

Hello friends!

I hope you all had a nice weekend! I hit up a friend’s surprise birthday party on Friday night, then got my butt kicked on Saturday morning by this workout at CrossFit Arlington:

Um, yikes. Still sore.

Saturday night, we went out to dinner with friends, and then on Sunday morning, I met my friend Megan for coffee (some of you will recognize her as the former MegaNerd Runs blogger!):

After we caught up, I hit up a free yoga class at Epic Yoga in Dupont (every Sunday for the next few months they’re offering a free 11 a.m. class on Sundays as part of a partnership with Lululemon in Logan Circle – win!):

And then went to brunch afterwards with a new friend – Amaris, who is an RD that works in PR and did UNC’s MPH in Nutrition program a couple years before me! We went to Kramerbooks & Afterwords Café – love this place.

I had the eggs benedict with crab, minus the hollandaise sauce (not a fan). It was delicious – I wasn’t able to finish all of this!

And the rest of yesterday (before Super Bowl watching, of course), was spent packing! Why? Because I’m headed to Chapel Hill for the next week or so to study with my grad school girlfriends Maria and Elle for the big RD exam! We used to do all our studying during the program together, so it only makes sense that we’ll study for this together, too. Posting may be a little bit sporadic this week as we buckle down and study but I’ll be sure to pop in and share our non-studying adventures. :) We have all sorts of fun workout dates planned already as study breaks, of course!

And speaking of workouts, I’m excited to announce that I’ve officially signed on as a Brooks Run Happy Ambassador!

running shoes

Those of you who have been reading the blog for awhile will remember that for years, my go to running shoe has been the Brooks Adrenaline.

They were the very first running shoe I bought when I started running more seriously shortly after college, and I wore them exclusively until about a year ago when I decided to mix things up a bit. But I have to say, Brooks still feels like home. :)

As part of my ambassadorship, I’ll be promoting the “Run Happy” attitude as well as sharing it with you guys in the form of giveaways, reviews, and other contests. I love the Brooks tagline “Run Happy” – I feel like it perfectly embodies what I go for with my runs. So much so, in fact, that my RoadID, which I got years ago, actually says “Run Happy” on it as the inspirational quote under my personal info!

Needless to say, I can’t wait to work with Brooks. :) It will be fun to try some of their other shoes out as I train for my spring races this year!

Have a great day and catch you later from North Carolina!

What’s your favorite running tagline or inspirational quote?

Awesome news about the Brooks partnership, Anne! “Run Happy” is such a fun mantra. I have one of their slogan t-shirts and it makes me smile every time I put it on. Good luck with your studying and hope you can find some “run happy” moments of zen between hitting the books!

Have fun in Chapel Hill! I just left that neck of the woods and moved to AZ.

Congrats on the partnership with Brooks! I’m sure that will be fun and exciting to try new shoes as they come out. I love their “run happy” line as well, though I must admit I still have yet to make myself a RoadID bracelet…(bad Katie!)

Love Brooks running shoes! I bought some Adidas as running shoes since my Brooks were a little worn out but quickly switched back. Congratulations on your new partnership!

As a long time reader I just wanted to say that the trend toward sponsored posts and product reviews makes me sad. I love your blog for its authentic voice and great recipes (which are still there, don’t get me wrong), but it’s just feels like a lot of advertising lately (Verizon, Reebok, Old Navy, CrossFit, Brooks, to name just a few). It’s wonderful that you are being presented with these opportunities, but I think it may alienate some of your readers. I know the solution people often say in blog comments is “If you don’t like what you see on the blog, stop reading” and that’s OK but I just wanted to give my honest feedback.

Hi Jenn, Thanks for reading and for your honest comment! I appreciate the feedback. I do my best to fit in the occasional product reviews/sponsored posts in as genuine a way as possible, and I hope you’ll keep reading. I get hundreds of product review/sponsored post requests every month and only accept the very few opportunities that I feel a) vibe with me ethically/are things I believe in (e.g. no processed food, diet gimmicks, etc.) and b) you guys will actually be interested in. I know some people might prefer I not do any at all, but the ones I accept are ones I really believe in and want to share with you guys. Anyway – thanks again and I’ll keep this comment in mind as I consider which opportunities to accept in the future!

I wanted to go to that free Epic Yoga class but was sick all weekend. Glad it was fun – I definitely plan to go in the coming weeks!

Congrats on being a Brooks ambassador girl! If anyone ‘runs happy’, it is definitely you! :) I am in the market for new running shoes and I think I may have to check out what Brooks has to offer!

My favorite inspirational quote these days is “Have No Fear of Perfection, You’ll Never Reach It!” It is perfect for the new year as I set out to try new things and reach never limits.

Congrats and good luck studying! I think my favorite running mantras are “find your happy pace” and “nothing is impossible.”

Sounds like Chapel Hill will be a fun (and enlightening) trip. Good luck studying with your friends for the RD test. I’m sure you’ll do great. That’s also pretty exciting that you’re a Run Happy Ambassador. A great way to stay motivated … and more importantly, to stay happy while you do it!

  11. 12

Good luck in your study with your friends and of course Good Luck in your RD Exam. :)

T.G.I.F!!! (the goal is fitness) says:

    Congrats on your ambassadorship!

Hope you have a blast in Chapel Hill -nothing beats fun times again with old friends!

And good luck studying for your exam.
Which reminds me…one of my mantras is “The only time success comes before work, is in the dictionary”

I have been reading your blog for a few months now after a friend recommended it to me. It is great, especially as I try to find motivation to run regularly again after having a baby this past summer.
I came across this interesting article in the NYT today that you and your readers might find interesting.
