Stand Up Paddleboarding & Stitch Fix Love!

Good afternoon, my friends!

You know what I’m loving lately? Doing fun outdoorsy activities on weeknights. It makes the days feel so long and full!

On Tuesday night, a group of girlfriends and I all met for a stand up paddleboarding  (SUP – love that abbreviation) adventure at Key Bridge Boathouse (formerly Jack’s Boathouse).

Have you guys ever tried SUP before? It’s really fun – and a lot more stable than it looks, too!

The other three girls I was with had never tried it before, but they were naturals. :) Here’s my college BFF Turner in action!

The four of us had a blast – we kept it casual on speed and paddled next to each other, chatting away for the whole hour.

What a lovely way to spend an evening! I brought along my waterproof camera with me in my SPIbelt, in case you’re wondering how I got these pics. I’m sitting down on my paddleboard in the picture below! :)

The girls and I all headed to dinner at the waterfront in Georgetown after our adventure – we went to Farmers Fishers Bakers, which is one of my recent favorites in the area. They have great brunch, too!

Another thing I’m obsessed with lately? Stitch Fix! Have you guys tried it yet? Am I the last person in the world to have found out about this awesome website?!

Basically, Stitch Fix is an online personal styling service and it’s officially the best thing ever, especially if you don’t like or don’t have time to shop in person. When you first sign up with them, you fill out a style profile answering questions about your style, sizing, shape, price preferences, etc., including selecting how much you like certain pictured outfits. I loved this because while I’m not really able to define a specific style in words, I can certainly select what I like and don’t like from pictures!

Once you finish the style profile, you schedule your first “fix”, which is a box of 5 clothing and accessory items that have been hand picked for you based on your style profile. What you get is a surprise and no one box is alike – cool, right? When you get the box, you try everything on, keep what you like, and send back the rest. You’re charged a $20 styling fee up front, but that goes as credit towards whatever you keep. I signed up last week and was super pumped to get my first box on Tuesday!

The first thing I pulled out of the box was this cute green necklace.

I liked it, but after some debate with my Instagram friends, I decided to send it back and save my money for the other stuff! (It was $32.)

Next up was this cute print skirt, which I LOVED. It was on the pricey end – $88 – which is normally way more than I’d spend on a skirt, but it’s really soft and comfy, super versatile, and it has pockets. Keeping this one – I’ll get a lot of wear out of it! :)

Love that each item comes with a tag with styling ideas!

Yay new skirt (paired below with an old favorite Banana Republic lace tank).

Next up in the box was this really cute dress. At only $48, I was tempted, but I decided in the end to send it back – summer is almost over and I have enough dresses! Plus, I didn’t think the cut of this dress was super flattering for me, even though I loved the colors and the style (especially the back ruffle).

Last I pulled out this sheer polka dot tab-sleeve blouse and a pair of skinny jeans. At first I thought no for the jeans because I’m not really looking for new ones right now, but then of course I tried them on and they fit like a dream – no gapping in the waist which is usually my problem. So I’m still debating on those. I’m not sure I can bear to part with them! You can never have too many perfect jeans, right?!

IMG_3986

What do we think of the shirt? It’s $58 – should I keep it? I really liked that they sent me this because the sheer flowy shirt trend is one I always love the look of but never try on or buy if I’m shopping normally for some reason. I can’t decide – keep or not keep? :)

Anyway! My first Stitch Fix experience was definitely positive. I’m excited to keep doing it every once in awhile – maybe every few months or so when I have a little extra cash to spare. It’s more fun than shopping for myself – I loved seeing what they would surprise me with! Check it out if you haven’t already. This isn’t a sponsored post in any way (although the link is an affiliate link) – just thought it would be fun to share my experience and get some advice on what to keep. :)

Have a great day, friends! Time to get back down to work over here – apparently everyone is back from vacation and looking for nutrition counseling, because all of a sudden in the past couple weeks I’ve had a ton of new client sign ups and interest in my AnneTheRD services! Looking forward to helping them reach their goals. :)

love the aqua polka dot shirt – very pretty!

  2. 2

I really like the blue polka dot top – it’s very cute!

  3. 3

The polka dot shirt is cute but I feel like you can get that anywhere for half the price. Love the black and white skirt! Worth the money!

I’m with you – actually, I think you could get pieces similar to all of these at much less cost elsewhere (just being my frugal honest self). But I don’t live in a big city where clothing prices are higher, and I’ve never been willing to spend lots of money on single items of clothing – Ross/TJ Maxx/outlet stores are more my speed! :-) That said, I think the jeans and polka dot top ARE super cute, and a great fitting pair of jeans is often worth it!

Yes on the polka dot shirt and jeans — they look great together! I filled out a Stitch Fix profile a few weeks ago but haven’t ordered anything yet. I’m glad to hear you loved your package despite not keeping everything. I’ll have to try this.

Love the shirt AND the jeans – definitely keepers! I’m confused about how the payment works for Stitchfix. It’s $20/month, plus the cost of whichever items you decide to keep? Or is the $20 a credit towards those items? Is their a yearly membership fee, or do you pay month-by-month? And how does the return shipping work? (Sorry-that’s a lot of questions!)

The $20 styling fee only applies when you get a box (it’s not a monthly fee – just however often you get boxes – it’s charged when your box arrives), and it goes towards the items you buy as credit. So if you buy nothing, you pay $20 only. If you buy something, $20 is subtracted out. There’s no yearly membership fee or monthly commitment – you just order boxes when you want them! And they include a free pre-paid return shipping bag in the box for you to use for returns.

I LOVE Farmers Fishers Bakers! I was just there last week. Amazing food!

  7. 12

    Love SUP! SO much fun!

  8. 13

This is so cool. I was only just saying yesterday that I want to try SUP for my birthday weekend in Noosa, Australia! I wasn’t sure if it would be too hard though! Buy I think I will give it a go! All the clothes look fab too! Love that polka dot dress!

  9. 14

StitchFix looks like a great idea, if only I had the money to spare… I would be tempted to buy way too many things. I really like the skirt!

  10. 15

I’ve never heard of that program, but it sounds awesome! I think those jeans are super flattering, so I’d probably keep them. I love the polka dot shirt too, but I would hesitate at the $58 (mostly cause I’m a cheapskate). I think if you’d wanna pull it out once every week or 2 weeks, it’s probably worth the price. We also just got a place in Williamsburg that does SUP so I can’t wait to try it!

  11. 16

Love the shirt – definitely keep it!

  12. 17

Love the polka dot shirt! I just discovered stitch fix, my first box comes next week, I can’t wait

  13. 18

I’m glad you found StitchFix! I love getting a fix every once and awhile in the mail. My vote on the aqua top- keep it! It is so cute.
I didn’t know they offered river paddle boarding. We did it in Hawaii and I’d love to go again. Have a good weekend.

  14. 19

I really want to SUP, but I never get around to it in the summer! I feel like I’m always out of town on the weekend and have never thought about going on a weeknight. I might just have to! I love the skirt and the jeans look great on you! The top is cute and I feel like it could be a good piece for cool nights in the summer and spring – and even early fall! It would look cute with white jeans too.

  15. 20

Looks like your first fix was really successful! I love the skirt! I’m obsessed with the fix now and have my second one scheduled to arrive next week. It beats shopping at the same old stores!

  16. 21

    Top is definitely a keeper!

  17. 22

I say keep the shirt, and if you REALLY love the jeans, keep them too! :)

  18. 23

    Hey Anne,
I vote you keep the shirt too! The polka dots are so cute, and the color is gorgeous and perfect for spring/summer.

  19. 24

AH! I have wanted to try SUP boarding for awhile now. Did you take lessons before your first time or just rent them?

    Sara :)

    Roadrunner says:

A great outing — and neat about stitch fix! More great adventures. Enjoy the final weeks of summer!

  21. 27

Well that’s a bummer. I just filled out the entire StitchFix style questionnaire only for them to tell me they currently only style up to size 14 (I’m a 16). Why didn’t they just tell me that upfront before I wasted 20 minutes? Boo.

  22. 29

Stitch Fix definitely sounds great!! I have always wanted to try Stand up Paddle boarding it sounds like lots of fun.

  23. 30

I just got my first Stitch Fix this week!! I loved all but one shirt, but decided just to keep the skirt and dress, as what I really need is more dressy clothes… you got such cute stuff!

  24. 31

I’ve debating it for a while, but I think I need to take the stitch fix plunge – they sent you such cute choices!

Also, I NEED to try paddleboarding. I’m still on the search of a place nearby (Ottawa, Canada) any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

  25. 32

Definitely keep the jeans and the shirt!
