An Active Saturday

Hi, friends, and happy Veteran’s Day. Please take a moment today to thank a veteran you know!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Mine was great – beautiful weather, lots of friend time, and lots of activity. Instead of doing one longer run (I had an 8 miler on the docket for Sunday), I did two shorter runs, starting with a 3.5 miler on Saturday morning with my college buddy Turner. She was in town for a conference and stayed with us over the weekend. Fun!

We ran early and had the trails almost to ourselves. It was cold but lovely out!

It was colder out than on Friday morning (check out my “How to Dress For Cold Weather Running” post if you missed it!), so I dressed in layers. I wore basic black capris, plus a black lightweight wicking shirt, and over it, this fun mesh “Run Happy” shirt I received a few months ago from my friends at Brooks.

Up until this point, I’ve worn the mesh shirt over black or white tank tops, but it is super stretchy and worked well over the long sleeved shirt, too. An added bonus is that the black shirt I had on (a super old one from EMS) tends to ride up, but the pink shirt kept it in place. Sweet!

We had a nice run and the miles were done before we knew it.

After the run, Turner headed off to her conference and I had some food, changed, and headed to yoga with my friends Sarah and Chrissy, which was my original workout plan of the day.

We hit up STROGA in Adams Morgan. I hadn’t been there in ages, so it was nice to be back. This studio is home to the most gorgeous yoga space in the area – the classes take place in this stunning ballroom!

We hit a 1 hour 15 minute vinyasa flow. It was a basic and not all that challenging class, which was what I was in the mood for. Felt good to stretch out!

After yoga, we got down business: brunch. The three of us headed to nearby Mintwood Place. I’d never been there before. What a cute spot!

We even snagged a sunny and cozy window seat.

I had the Scottish egg, which was basically a poached egg wrapped in sausage and fried. You only live once, right? It was served on a squash puree. So creative and delicious!

The rest of Saturday was spent with Matt and some friends cheering on Syracuse (where Matt went to school) at the Syracuse v. Maryland football game. It got chilly FAST but it was fun to see a D1 football game – my first, I think, since I was lame and never made it to one at UNC while I was in grad school there!

When we got back, we headed to dinner at Il Radicchio, one of our local favorites, with Turner. Such a fun day!

I’ll be back to share our Sunday adventures. Have a great day!

Beautiful place to run! And at sunrise too! I am jealous!

I love your mesh top, I have never seen anything like that before….might see if Saucony has something similar :) Your posts are always so cute! Glad running brings you so much joy :)

I love Mintwood!!! I’m excited to see your Sunday post! I’ve always been curious about Il Radicchio, but I’ve never been!

Looks like a great weekend. That yoga studio is gorgeous! I love going to brunch in DC when I visit my friends up there because of all the unlimited mimosas. We don’t have any restaurants down here that do that and I do love mimosas :-)

How have I been reading you all this time and never realized your husband went to Syracuse, too? So funny! You guys are younger so I don’t think we overlapped (class of ’99). I’m going to the Syracuse-FSU game this weekend and there is zero chance we put in any type of performance like our game at Maryland. It’s going to be a bloodbath. But I’ll still wear my Orange proudly! If he’s never read it, Matt may like my Syracuse love story, the story of how I met my husband thanks to the ’03 championship team and we met in the dive bars of all dive bars in DC, the Park Bench (which is no longer there but used to be across the street from the Uptown). http://momjovi.com/2013/04/love-and-basketball-a-syracuse-love-story/

Add in the fact that you went to UNC, my Duke-graduating husband’s mortal enemy, and well, there’s all sorts of funny crossovers. OK, enough stalkerish comments.

That yoga studio is GORGEOUS and I’m putting it on my list for my next trip home to DC.

    Looks like a great weekend!
I secretly always hope the vinyasa class is an easy, stretch out class… Haha
    What a beautiful studio!!

  7. 8

That studio. I die. I would love a class in there!

    Roadrunner says:

Love the Run Happy shirt! And what a gorgeous yoga spot, too! But who won the game? :-)

  9. 11

Oh man! That yoga studio looks awesome! I’ll have to check it out! Have you been to Fuse Pilates in Dupont Circle? It’s my current studio and it’s such a nice space! Also love the Brooks running shirt!

  10. 13

Nice speedy run! Sounds like the perfect weekend…that squash puree looks dreamy! Oh an I love the pink top!!!

  11. 14

That yoga studio looks ridiculously beautiful, kind of like Versailles! Sounds like a perfect weekend!

  12. 15

I want that meshed shirt! So freakin’ cute!

  13. 16

Love the photos from your runs, looks very pretty. I need to do more yoga which I keep saying I am going to do but never get around to it.

I would be game to try out that egg combo but don’t know if I would order it for myself just try someone else’s who had ordered it :)

    Hey Anne,
That’s what us Brits call a Scotch egg! It’s more commonly a picnic or buffet food here, and the egg is usually hard boiled. Can be found among the sausage rolls and quiches!
Looks like you had the more a la carte version!

    Good luck for the marathon.

  15. 19

I love Scotch eggs, they do some seriously good ones at Pubs in the UK! Wish Brooks sold more clothing over here in London!

  16. 20

Great job on the run! I love pairing yoga and run days together! What an amazing yoga studio! D1 football games are the best! I went to Ohio State for undergrad and had student tickets all 4 years. I LOVE the games and the atmosphere!

  17. 21

Love me some Stroga. Moving down the street from them was the best decision I ever made! :)

Btw, there’s a by-donation power yoga class at Stroga on Sundays at 6:30 PM — the suggested donation is $10 and the money goes to the Mission: Results relief efforts in Haiti. Love being able to support a good cause and get a great workout at the same time!

  18. 23

Anne I have a question for you about Il Radicchio- I’ve had their pizza twice, but I wasn’t completely wowed by it. What do you order when you go there?

  19. 26

Sounds like a great weekend. I really love that path that you ran. I am starting to join your ranks where I run ‘short’ 3 milers…not quite there yet, but close!

  20. 27

I thought the Equilibrium base was supposed to be worn under your clothes, not over. Isn’t that how it’s designed? Or did you just want to mix things up?

    • 28

You’re right – it’s technically a base layer, and I’ve worn it that way before, too. I just felt it was a shame to hide such a cute shirt under something else! :) And in this case, it helped to keep my black shirt from riding up.
