A NYC Wedding Weekend + Central Park Running Adventures

Hello friends! Another weekend has flown by far too quickly – Matt and I spent it up in NYC celebrating our friends Nick and Ariana’s wedding!

They got married at the beautiful Loeb Boathouse in Central Park on Saturday morning – I wish I’d taken more pictures because it was gorgeous, but I was too busy enjoying the action. :) A big congratulations to the newlyweds!

The other big highlight this weekend was not one but two runs through Central Park! Matt and I got up for an early run on Saturday before the wedding, and it was the most perfect weather ever. Such a treat!

Training for two full marathons (the Richmond Marathon in mid November and the LA Marathon in early March) essentially back to back really tanked my speed (lots of longer slower runs vs. short and fast), so I’ve been trying to work on getting it back! Matt is fast from years of soccer playing so he challenged me to really pick up the pace. :)

It felt hard to run faster again, especially early on in the run, but by the end I started to really get into it and challenged myself to stay right with Matt. Views like this helped!

We did a big loop of the whole park and covered exactly 6 miles. GREAT run!

8:23 average pace – nice! And our last mile was 7:20 I think – sadly my Garmin appears to have eaten the stats. Fail! Time to delete/upload to my computer some of the old runs on there, I think…

It was such a great way to start the day – a real “Run Happy” sort of run, which was perfect since I was wearing a new “Run Happy” shirt that Brooks gifted me for spring as part of my Run Happy Ambassadorship. :)

Cute pattern, right? :) I love that it’s longer than Brooks shirts usually are, too. Perfect, comfy fit!

I got in another fun run in Central Park on Sunday morning before we headed out, too – I did a solo 5.5 ish miles and it was fabulous to enjoy the fresh air and another beautiful morning.

It was fun, NYC – until next time! :)

And now – getting back into the swing of things at the start of another workweek! Hope it’s a good one for all of you!

I’ve run that same loop in NYC and it’s a lot of fun! Looks like the weather was finally beautiful, too!

I signed my boyfriend and I up for the OutRun on Thursday – we’ve been meaning to try it for awhile and this is perfect. Can’t wait!

I’m glad I’m not the only one whose pace was slowed due to doing 2 marathons back to back! I came to that realization a month ago…I was so focused on getting the miles on my legs that I really didn’t care about my pace (even though I did have a time goal). Now that I want to get back to my half marathon pace for a race in May (St. Michael’s 1/2)….it has been really difficult. I’ve decided that PRing isn’t gonna happen….so I am just going for fun!

I know, I’m having a really hard time getting back into it, too! Got so used to distance & “whatever” pace vs. speed. We can get back to it!

That blue really is your colour!!! :) Would love a trip to NY…I say that way to often!

  7. 12

I never thought about how long distance running could end up making you slower. Generally I’m just a slow runne rno matter what! ;)

  8. 13

I love that “Run Happy” Shirt! Do they sell them in stores?

  9. 14

Great runs! I love running with my husband as well, he is fast from soccer and always pushes me to go faster! :)

Wow, awesome run in THE park! Great stuff!

  11. 16

Love the pictures from your park run! I’m currently trying to find a balance between working on becoming faster with shorter runs and building endurance with longer runs. We can do it!!

  12. 17

Ah I’m still bummed about missing out on Thursday’s workout. Oh well, next time!!

I love running in Central Park!! Every time I’m in New York and can squeeze in a run there I always appreciate it so much :)
