On Sunday morning, Matt set a new personal distance record for running: 12 miles!!
I’m so proud of him!
As you guys know, we’re currently training for the Pittsburgh Half Marathon in 2 weeks, which will be Matt’s first half marathon (and his little brother Drew’s first half, too)! My brother is going to join in on the adventure with us, too, as are a big group of our friends. It should be quite the party! This 12 miler was the longest run that we’ll do for training and Matt knocked it out with no problem.
We decided to do one of my standard favorite big downtown loops with all the touristy awesomeness. First step: run over Key Bridge and down to the Georgetown waterfront!
Loving all the tulips that are out now. So beautiful!
It was really windy out on Sunday morning – we had a pretty strong headwind for the first half of the run!
We stopped for a few quick photos at Lincoln.
I always love the view from this spot:
From there, we headed all the way down the mall. I think most people were off doing Easter things, because we had it mostly to ourselves!
The Washington Monument’s big fences have come down, but there are still some small ones. Hoping those are removed soon too so we can finally run right up to it again!
Matt had never run the loop around the Capitol, so we added that in just for fun.
I busted out a mocha Clif shot gel around this point and ate it slowly over about a mile.
For your viewing pleasure, here is an awkward sweaty/squinty in the sun photo:
From the Capitol, we headed back down the mall from where we came and jetted off to the 14th street bridge, which dumped us out onto the Mt. Vernon Trail in Virginia.
I love how GREEN it’s looking out there now!
We stopped to smell the
roses daffodils up by Iwo Jima…
And then finished strong for our last mile uphill. 12 miles – done!
- Mile 1: 8:50
- Mile 2: 8:57
- Mile 3: 9:08
- Mile 4: 9:47
- Mile 5: 9:23
- Mile 6: 9:25
- Mile 7: 9:30
- Mile 8: 9:14
- Mile 9: 9:15
- Mile 10: 8:59
- Mile 11: 8:55
- Mile 12: 9:05 (great uphill pace!)
Matt says he’s feeling ready to rock in a couple weeks! Should be a fun race.
Did you get in a long run or race over the weekend? How’d it go?
Any of you run Boston?!
