Mmmmmmmm
These are healthy and delicious, made from all whole grains and with the addition of flax seed for an extra nutrition boost. They are not too sweet, but the dark chocolate adds a lovely decadence to them
Ingredients
(makes 2 dozen)
Dry:
- 2 & 1/4 C rolled oats
- 1/2 C whole wheat pastry flour
- 1/2 C brown sugar
- 1/4 C ground flaxseed
- 1/2 Tbsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
Wet:
- 1/2 C skim milk (or dairy substitute)
- 1/2 C unsweetened applesauce
- 1/2 C dark chocolate chips (or raisins, cranberries, etc.)
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350. In two separate bowls, add wet and dry ingredients, then add wet to dry and mix until more or less uniform.
Spoon cookie batter onto two nonstick or greased (I used PAM spray) cookie sheets – this recipe makes about 24 small-ish cookies.
Pop them in the oven and bake about 12 minutes.
ENJOY!

Hi Anne,
I just stumbled my way to your blog for the first time from Heather’s and am loving all of these recipe ideas- I’m writing a few down now to try soon, and definitely this one- I have a huge sweet tooth problem and I’m thinking these might do the trick in a healthier way than the ben &jerrys ice cream in my freezer. Anyway, I’m noticing that you use ground flax seeds a lot. Awesome way to get in some extra nutrients, however, I have a strong aversion/mild allergy to nuts and I find a lot of seeds taste nutty to me and therefore are repulsive- whatever the case, I have tried flax seeds just on a salad and hated them. I really wish I didn’t but, that’s life. Do you find that when they are ground and in a recipe like this that you can still taste it a lot? Thanks!
Hey Hillary – welcome to the blog! I don’t think you can taste them a ton, but to be safe I would say just leave out the flax seeds
Since they’re ground it won’t make much of a difference in the recipe!
