After all that delicious eating on Saturday, Turner and I decided a run was in order on Sunday morning!
We headed out around 9 a.m. with a goal of 6 miles. Cape May has a special place in my running heart because it’s actually the place where I ran 6 miles for the very first time! I was in Cape May for a weekend back in 2009 when I was starting to train for the Army 10 Miler, and I’d never run more than 5 miles before — and 5 miles was still kind of a lot for me at that point, too. I remember asking Turner if she would run 6 miles with me the next day and being surprised when she very nonchalantly said “sure, no problem.” I remember being SO proud that day when we finished those 6 miles. It’s pretty cool how your perspective of what a long run is changes so quickly. Now I am so proud that I can go out and just run 6 miles on any given day! Definitely shows how far I’ve come. That’s why I love running — there’s always something to work towards or improve, whether it’s pace, distance, or even perception of what’s doable.
We ran down through town, along the ocean wall, and back. I felt a little tired for the first bit but by the end was going strong. Funny how that happens on a run — sometimes you just have to push through the rough patch at the beginning and then you’re good!
6 miles — done!
- Mile 1: 8:46
- Mile 2: 8:41
- Mile 3: 8:53
- Mile 4: 9:07
- Mile 5: 8:46
- Mile 6: 8:53
Overall average pace: 8:51. Sounds good to me! Great run.
Turner made us breakfast when we returned. An open faced English muffin with some cheddar cheese, 2 fried eggs, and two thick slices of tomato. Plus some tea on the side.
I love summer tomato!
The rest of Sunday was spent relaxing at the beach! It ended up being a beautiful day.
Obligatory feet + ocean shot:
My view — this kite was kind of mesmerizing.
For lunch, we hit my absolute favorite beach treat — Hot Dog Tommy’s. No photos because hot dogs don’t generally photograph well and it would likely have involved ketchup all over me, but it was delicious. I can’t come to Cape May without a visit to this place!
Awesome weekend — wish it had been longer.
While I’m talking about my weekend, I also wanted to give a little love to my Samsung Galaxy S3 phone! As I mentioned before, I’m currently reviewing the phone as part of my Verizon Ambassador program.
My favorite thing about the phone so far? The camera! It takes great pictures — I’ve taken pretty much all of my Instagram (follow me! My username is fANNEtasticfood) photos over the past month with this phone and it’s awesome. Here’s one from our morning run with an Instagram filter over it:
And another of a cool sand castle on the beach on Saturday, again with an Instagram filter on it:
And here’s my favorite photo that I’ve taken on the phone — a shot of the beach at night from a couple weeks ago at Bethany Beach in Delaware. The Samsung takes AWESOME night/dim lighting photos.
Runner up for favorite thing the phone does is the Google map guidance system. It’s insanely fast and accurate. I’ve been using it a lot to get around the city when I need directions quickly and can’t wait for my big car GPS system to find the satellites!
Actually, one more runner up — the mobile hot spot option. I always love this on phones. The internet is fast enough to upload blog posts with tons of photos in them for me. This has been so helpful for when I’m on the road!
Anyway! I’m off to work. Run club tonight! Happy Tuesday, friends!
