Chicago or Bust!

Hello friends!

I am still alive :) Just crazed between packing up for the big move to NC (we roll out of DC on Tuesday!!), saying goodbye to friends, prepping to start school again, and working on my panel (and packing!) for this weekend’s trip to the Healthy Living Summit in Chicago!

I leave tomorrow morning and will be back in DC on Sunday night. I can’t wait to see all my blogger friends (and to meet some new ones!) :)

I’m moderating a panel session on Saturday at the Healthy Living Summit entitled: “The Ups and Downs of Pressing Publish: Getting Real About the Blogging Community.”

During the session, my awesome panelists Andrea, Heather, Julie, Sana and I will be sharing our experiences and guiding discussion on issues in blogging. Audience participation will be very encouraged and we hope to see you there! :)

Our session will be from 1:40 — 2:25 on Saturday. If you can’t attend, have no fear — it will be recorded!

I’m also excited to play in Chicago! I’ve been to Chicago twice, but never in the summer.

Any recommendations for fun things to do or places to eat in Chicago?

Time to get back to packing! I’ll be “live blogging” all weekend, so be sure to check back :) Also, please follow me on Twitter if you aren’t already!

Catch you guys tomorrow from the Windy City!

p.s. My best friend from high school’s little sister, Gretchen, has just started a blog to document her weight loss journey. We are so proud of her for deciding to make a change and I would love if you guys would go check out her new blog to give her some love, tips, and motivation! :)

  5. 5

I will definitely be at your presentation; sounds excellent :-)

  6. 6

You must get some popcorn from Garrett’s! ( It’s completely indulgent but completely amazing! The caramel/cheese mix is my favorite. I definitely plan on making a stop while I’m in the city this weekend!

  7. 7

I just went to Chicago last weekend! We ate at Hub 51 h(ttp:// and RockIt Bar & Grill ( – both have great food! Also went to some fun bars (Slugger’s was my fav) in Wrigleyville if you can get over to a Cubs game. I hope you have so much fun!

  8. 8

Have fun in Chicago! Can’t wait to see the recaps! :)

  9. 9

Have fun at the HLS! I wish I could be there!

  10. 10

Have fun here in Chicago this weekend. Hope you packed for hot and humid weather cause that’s what we’re having right now :)

  11. 11

I hope you have an uneventful trip to Chicago! I’ll be there this weekend as well, and I’m looking forward to meeting you!

  12. 12

Have fun!! I am jealous I really like Chicago too :)

  13. 13

Woo hoo! See you tomorrow! Chicago is SO much more fun during the summer (I’m allowed to say that- I’m a native Chicagoan ;) )- it’s gonna be awesome!

  14. 14

Chicago is a pretty awesome place to be in the summer! Check out my website for some possible restaurant ideas! :)

  15. 15

Definitely hit up Fox and Obel Food Market. I was in Chicago a year ago for a conference and I think I ate there almost every day! The market is amazing, but the cafe is insane! The sandwiches, soups, salads, all fresh, amazing food. You have to try it!

Anne, you’re so sweet to mention my blog! Everyone is being SO supportive — you have the best followers!! Thanks again, and also thanks for all the sweet, crazy healthy recipes I’m about to bust out thanks to you :) (And since Ben mooches all of his food off of what I cook, he has no idea what he’s in for… it’s a Powell Family Health Revolution!)

  17. 17

My goodness you have so much going on! I did not realize you were moving so soon!!

  18. 18

So glad the session will be recorded. I can’t make it to Chicago so I’m definitely playing catch-up when the recording is up.

  19. 19

One of my favorite places to eat and grab a drink is at The Gage. It is down the street from the conference hotel and the fries with curry sauce is A-mazing.

I’m also going to attend your session on Saturday!

  20. 20

Go to Rosebud on Rush for great Italian Food!

  21. 21

I’ll be tracking you – Have fun. Have you heard anything regarding your final test last Friday?

  22. 23

I feel so honored to be a part of your panel! I can’t wait!

  23. 24

Ooh I can’t wait for the “live blogging” — have a great time in Chicago!

  24. 25

I’m so envious you’ll be playing around Chicago all weekend, it’s my favorite “big city”. Definitey ride the huge ferris wheel on the pier that takes 7 minutes to go around once!!! Something I always do when I’m there in summer.

  25. 26

Have fun!! Looking forward to your live blogging!

  26. 27

    Good luck on your presentation.

I love Chicago and hopefully be able to go visit again soon. Lots of good memories.

I would recommend going to the top of John Hancock building, spectacular food.

Also, there’s a chocolate store called Ether’s chocolate, delicious!

If you feel like eating unhealthy, deep dish pizza is a must too.

  27. 28

I would recommend Gino’s East for deep dish pizza. Or get a cookie sundae at Cubby Bear which is located right across frm Wigley’s field. Have a great time!!

  28. 29

oooh have fun! Sounds like it is going to be an awesome weekend!!

  29. 30

I’ve been obsessively reading about the Summit from Caitlin’s post and all her info from last year. I’m jealous…next year baby!
Have a blast. Your panel looks fascinating.
Do you know if there will be a live stream like I read there was last year?

    • 31

Unfortunately I don’t think there will be a live feed this year since the internet isn’t as reliable :( BUT… everything will be taped and available later!

  30. 32

Have a great weekend! I am vicariously following all the HLS peeps on Twitter!!

  31. 33

Look forward to reports from the Windy City in the summer! Should be beautiful. And well done to Gretchen. Pls keep us posted…

  32. 34

Definitely find an Argo Tea – plenty in the city. Awesome tea creations, my fave is the Sangria Tea or the Coconut Chai Tea – yum!!! Great snacks or lunches, too.
A little disappointed you didn’t go to Buckingham fountain… You still have time :)
    Enjoy the windy city

  33. 35

Just checked in here to find a recipe to use my spelt flour and saw this post. Congrats on the panel! You’re a blogging superstar!!!

  34. 36

Hope the move goes well! Have a great week!
