Hi friends! As you know, Matt and I are currently on vacation in Florida! Matt’s brother is getting married this coming weekend and we came down early – because, why not? 🙂

We’re currently making the drive from Pensacola Beach (where we spent the past few days) over to Destin/Seaside/Watersound area (where the wedding festivities are taking place), so I wanted to pop in quickly and share some photos from our adventures so far! Enjoy! 🙂

Kayaking in Big Lagoon State Park:

Running at Fort Pickens/Gulf Islands National Seashore:

The sand was so white it looked like snow. (Also, I forgot how hard running in sand is – we only made it about a half mile on the beach before bailing and heading back to the pavement!)

We ended our run at Fort Pickens, a historic US Military Fort, and explored a bit before leaving!

Today is our first rainy day of the trip – perfect for traveling – and we got in another run this morning before leaving Pensacola Beach. The rain actually felt nice – I like running in the rain when it’s warm. 🙂

On to the food highlights! I took down some epic fish tacos, sweet potato fries, and a mojito (blurry in the background) at Casino Beach Bar & Grille:

The fresh oysters down here are amazing and HUGE – had some delicious raw ones at Red Fish Blue Fish (unpictured) one night and also shared this fun oyster sampler with Matt at Flora-Bama. Raw oysters, cajun oysters, and bacon & cheese oysters! Yummm

Continuing with my ALL the seafood trend – all the raw fish (shared with Matt) at H20 Cajun Asian Grill & Sushi Bar – their tuna tartare was especially awesome.

My body was begging for vegetables yesterday so we found an awesome lunch spot called Wild Roots Organic Food. I got an unpictured fresh juice (beet + carrot + kale + ginger) that I shared with Matt and this gorgeous make-your-own salad. Hit. The. Spot.

Plus a mocha espresso beach pop (made with coconut milk, avocado, espresso, and raw cacao – yum)!

On our way out of town today we hit up Another Broken Egg Café – noted as one of the best breakfasts in the area. It lived up to the hype! I got a veggie omelette (spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, and goat cheese) with some extra veggies on the side (my body is like PLEASE GIVE ME VEGGIES!) and their amazing Mediterranean potatoes – deep fried and served with feta and crispy rosemary and onions. Insanely epic.

So there you have it! What we’ve been up to. We have also spent some time lying on the beach and by the pool, of course! Yesterday afternoon we hung out by the pool for most of the afternoon and read – I’m reading “Me Before You” right now at my friend Gina’s recommendation and it’s SO GOOD. Super addictive and a fast read – perfect for vacation. Plus, they are coming out with a movie soon! I’m already excited for it. 🙂

I’m taking tomorrow off but will be back with posts on Thursday and Friday – stay tuned! We have plans to go scuba diving tomorrow morning if the weather holds – fingers crossed!

What’s your favorite beachy food? Fish tacos take the cake for me. 🙂 And ice cream/gelato!

Thank you for sharing some of your eats! I will be in Destin this Saturday. I hadn't heard of Another Broken Egg nor have I tried it on any previous trips to Destin so that one is definitely on my list now.

So lovely! Beach running is so hard. I've only made it two miles and had to do it barefoot.

You ate tacos and sweet potato fries and afterwards you seem so distraught by this that your body is "craving veggies." I know you are an RD, but you seem to have so much guilt every time you eat something you deem "unhealthy." You always point it out in an odd way.

I wasn't distraught at all -- just going with intuitive eating! I had a couple days of indulgence and my body wanted veggies after that - nothing wrong with balance! :) I write all the time about not feeling guilty about indulging (and work with clients a lot on this matter as well), and I practice what I preach!

Beaches = alllll the seafood for me! And even though I run much slower in the sand and running through sand is tough, beach runs are actually some of my favorites because they're much easier on my joints! Not to mention, there's great scenery :)

Love Pensacola Beach! (Though I'm pretty biased because that's where I got married. ;-) ) Six years ago next week! (It's really time to go back.) I do love oysters... but shrimps skewers are my thing, too.
