Hello and happy Friday! I’m so glad many of you enjoyed my “How to Make a Successful New Year’s Resolution” post yesterday!

I’m working on getting back into the swing of things with work after a nice Christmas break with family. We’re back at our apartment now and little miss Zara is happy to be free from my brother’s dog. 😉 Freyja (the dog) reeeeeally wanted to be besties and kept trying to play with Zara but she wasn’t having any of it. Ha.

We spent the holiday getting a lot of fresh air and exercise and also doing a lot of sleeping in, relaxing, and eating good food.

On December 31, I got in my last run of the new year, a short and speedy jaunt with my buddy Heather. Instead of running up the hill of death for the last 0.7 miles, we instead decided to stop early, get Starbucks, and walk up the hill. Best idea ever.

On the strength training front, I hit the gym a few times, where my brother taught me and Matt his lifting routine. We’ve been bad about making it to Crossfit lately (got out of the habit when I was marathon training), so it felt great to get back into heavier lifting.

(I don’t normally lift in running shoes – it was all I had packed with me at my parent’s place.)

We did 3 days of lifting with all sorts of different exercises – I’m SORE! I wish I had my brother here to be my personal trainer. 🙂

On the eating front, now that we’re back in our apartment I enjoyed my favorite Flour Free Breakfast Pancake yesterday and this morning…

And last night Matt made some awesome simple Red Beans and Rice!

And now, back to work. I could get used to this whole 2 day work week thing…

Have a good one!

I can't tell you how much I love that pancake! I made it from your recipe a few weeks ago and was so skeptical. I had pretty much nothing in my house except a few things and was too lazy to go shopping. I couldn't believe how good it turned out!

Definitely need to try your pancake recipe now that I'm back eating eggs!!! :) What sort of weight you squatting and deadlifting? Trying to up my game with low reps and heavier weights of late!

I made it up to 70 pounds on both, but we were doing higher reps (5 or 6 per round). Strength wise I could lift heavier, but shoulder and hip tightness limit me a lot.

Why don't you normally wear running shoes while lifting? Am I missing something? I usually do...do I look like a noob?? ha ha

Well, it depends what type of running shoe you wear. You want to lift in minimal shoes because they don't have a lifted heel - you'll be more stable if you are closer to the ground. I usually wear my Reebok nanos for lifting!

I love weight training but never really do it (well other than with dumbbells) because I have no one to help me with it and I don't want to hurt myself! Simple meals are the best sometimes and one of my go to's is rice and beans!

Love the idea of a flour-free pancake! Do you have any advice for someone just starting out at Crossfit?

Just to start slowly and check the ego at the door! Don't worry how much weight everyone else is lifting or how fast they're doing workouts - just focus on you. No point in getting injured just because you're trying to keep up with everyone else. Have fun! :)
