Wedding Planning Frenzy

Good morning, friends!

The wedding planning portion of spring break has officially begun! Matt and his mom arrived here in DC yesterday — Matt was in Pittsburgh (where his family lives) over the weekend for a bachelor party so they drove down together. When they arrived, we had lunch before getting down to business!

Matt made us a bunch of turkey, hummus, and veggie pita sandwiches:

I made us all salads:

And Matt’s mom sliced us up some fruit and set the table. Team effort!

It was delicious! Perfect fuel before a busy day.

After lunch, Matt, his mom, and I all headed to Macy’s — our first stop for wedding registering! Registering was quite the experience — we had a nice lady help us set up our registry, give us a bunch of information, and then set us loose with the scanning gun!

Heh. It was fun — but also took way longer than we thought it would! It was really helpful having Matt’s mom with us to give us advice — although I think she may have regretted her decision to come when it took us 30 minutes just to figure out which towels to register for. 😉 These are big decisions, people! Haha.

We only made it about half way through registering at Macy’s before we had to head out — I guess we’ll have to finish another day! After registering, we met with the Chaplain we’d like to marry us. We’ll be going back for a few more sessions over the summer. He had us take a little personality test as a way to facilitate talking together about ways we approach things, etc. Very interesting! The Chaplain we chose actually works at the retirement community where my grandmother lives, and he is the one who presided over my grandfather’s funeral a few years ago, so it’s nice to have someone that means something to the family. After the meeting, Matt and I got my grandmother and met up with my mom and Matt’s mom for dinner. Fun night!

Today’s excitement is that we’re doing our official tasting!! It’s going to be intense — we’re tasting not only the actual reception food we picked out, but also some of the rehearsal food AND the cake! (We’re using the same caterer for the rehearsal and the reception.) It should be fun — both my mom and Matt’s mom will be with us — Matt’s mom is excited to see the place where we’re getting married since she hasn’t yet!

I’ll be back tomorrow with a full tasting recap, don’t worry. 😉 Have a good one, friends!

Isn't registering crazy? I found it so fun but also so weird. The cake tasting was my favorite part of planning though, hands down. :) (And psst ... it's "chaplain" not "champlain". :) )

That's cool that Matt's mom was with you guys to help :) The cake testing sounds like a great way to spend the day! Do they do that if you aren't getting married. ;) Have a great day! P.S. Great lunch!

We never registered, though looking back i really wish we did....I do have my eye on a dutch oven. I think I would get too carried away with that little gun, so it is probably good to have a ref to keep you from having three different sets of towels!!

Fuel is SO important for registering and planning. You really never know how long things are going to take. I remember keeping fruit/ snacks in my purse since we would always go over the amount of time that we set up for wedding related appointments. No one wants a cranky bride. Maybe you can finish your Macy's registry online? I know it's nice to see some items in person, but other things are easy to pick out online (over dinner and wine!) Have fun at your tastings! When I used to make wedding cakes, tastings were my favorite parts of the week. :)

How much fun. Oh my, all that food to taste. I hope the two moms and Matt and Anne can all agree. I bet you will. That's great that you picked a Chaplin that means something to the family, that's great. Have a wonderful day today.

What fun! So what type of pita bread do you use? I have tried several brands but I have not found anything that I love. Any suggestions?
