Chapel Hill Apartment Success!

Well, we found our dream home:

image

Heh. Juuuuust kidding. 🙂

But we did find a place! We decided to go for an apartment in a cute little community about a 10 minute (free) bus ride from campus. I would love to have found a place right by campus, but the ones we saw today were a bit run down and sadly we didn’t have time to continue the search. Oh well! I think we’ll be happy with the apartment 🙂 It’s really nice and walking distance to an awesome co-op grocery store, a farmers market, a few shops/restaurants, etc. Plus, there’s a pool! Yessss.

Before house hunting, we started our day with a short 2.5 mile run. It was hard dragging ourselves out of bed after such a busy weekend — half the battle is just putting your shoes on and going outside! But I knew we’d be happy once we got out there, and I was right.

001

Whenever I don’t want to get up to work out, I just visualize how I would feel later in the day if I blew off my workout. Unless I’m really crazy tired/seriously need a day off, I almost always know I’d feel SO much happier if my workout was already done and under my belt and not hanging over my head for later, especially if it’s a day I know I won’t have time to work out later. Working up a sweat is just such a great way to start the day!

It felt good to get back outside after doing the hotel gym thing the past few days. Matt’s a soccer player, so he’s more about short, speedy runs as opposed to long, steady ones, so we kept the run short and had fun doing some sprint races 🙂

003

He’s FAST! 🙂

We spent the rest of the day roaming around Chapel Hill and the surrounding areas, going to house viewing appointments we’d set up, stalking places with “for rent” signs, and checking out apartment communities.

026

Chapel Hill is really cute 🙂 Although I’m not gonna lie… I am definitely going to miss DC. Besides being sad to leave so many great friends, I’m really going to miss the restaurant scene and being in a more central location for driving to see friends up north! Oh well. Time for a new adventure, right?

Plus — Chapel Hill has a PITA PIT!!!!

011

I’ve been wanting to try Pita Pit FOREVER. It was pretty much amazing. Behold the deliciousness:

024

Yessssssss… I got a hummus pita with approximately three billion veggies and a sprinkling of feta, obviously.

010

012

Mmmm. I think I need to buy pickles to put on my sandwiches at home. They make sandwiches so much more awesome! The only lame thing was that they don’t have whole wheat pitas! What gives, Pita Pit??

After lunch, we played on campus for awhile while weighing our housing options. UNC is gorgeous 🙂028 030

Reflective sunglasses = endless entertainment.

033

034

After about 2 minutes of walking, we decided to lie down in the grass instead 🙂 We were tiiiiired!

040

Some rental application action later and… we’re back in the car yet again, destination: DC! It will be nice to be home. Although my bladder is the size of a pinhead so we are going to have to stop for the bathroom soon 😉

I will leave you with UNC’s version of the Washington Monument:

035

Have a great night 🙂

Ahh, you're living in Carrboro! So jealous! You need to go to Elmo's Diner and Panzanella...They are right behind the co-op in the plaza with Harris Teeter (grocery store). Also, Tyler's Taproom has a great beer selection. You'll be happy you're living in Carrboro instead of by campus...trust me! I just moved from Chapel Hill to Syracuse, NY and I miss it almost everyday!

Well, we'll be a bit south of Carrboro/Chapel Hill sadly... about a 10 min drive to Carrboro. There just wasn't enough time to search any more yesterday! We figure if we don't like the location, we can always move later :)

What a beautiful campus! That rundown house is quite the charmer, are you sure you don't want that to be your new digs? ;) Our Pita Pit went out of business, so sad. I loved PP!

Congrats on finding a place! And a Pita Pit, too! And well done on getting out for the run, even when you wanted to roll over again and stay in bed. Impressive. Looks like a neat city/campus. (Can't believe you didn't make an offer for the money pit...)

We have a Pita Pit about 20 miles away. They have a deal where it's 20 bucks for a meal for two (including chips and drink) + 2 movie tickets to the theater next door! That pita looks soooo good, now I'll have to try!

Sadly no! We'll be walking distance to one of the off-shoot Weaver St Market co-ops - not the original in Carrboro! Should still be cool :)

I remember pita pit used to have wheat pitas and then they took them off the menu. When we asked why they said it was because the texture of the wheat pita makes it fall apart with all the stuffings inside. This was a few years ago though so you'd think they could have perfected a new once since then!
