Chill Valentine’s

How was your weekend? We kicked ours off with a super chill Valentine’s dinner – instead of going out, we decided staying cozy and playing with Riese at home sounded like more fun, so we ordered pizza and made some salads to go with it.

Perfect – just what I was in the mood for!

After we got Riese to bed, Matt and I started watching the TV show “McMillions”, about the McDonald’s monopoly game from the 80’s/90’s and how it was rigged by some people on the inside – crazy!

On Saturday morning, Riese and I shared my flour free breakfast pancake – I made it in the microwave this time to keep it fast. If you want to try it, check out the recipe post – microwave instructions are included near the end of the post!

Plus cottage cheese + seeds + nut butter added after cooking.

Matt, Riese, and I brought Sweetgreen salads over to a friend’s place for a toddler playdate/lunch and to meet their new (-ish – whoops, took us awhile) baby, and then got a bunch of work done during naptime.

For dinner that night we had a last minute invite to join friends at Del Ray Pizzeria!

Since we had just had pizza the night before and weren’t feeling it again, we shared a pesto chicken pasta dish instead, plus some broccoli.

Sunday morning was the same microwave pancake – it’s so good! With some oats sprinkled on top this time in addition to the cottage cheese and seeds.

Mid-morning I headed out to meet my friend Kathleen for a run! I used to try to meet friends for my weekend run early/first thing because I figured Matt would rather I go and be done and come home and have the rest of the morning to hang out, but we talked about it a few weeks ago and I found out that he’d actually prefer I go later!

So now our new routine that everyone likes better is I get up with Riese and let Matt sleep in another hour or two, and then I go mid-morning. It was a good reminder to ask and not just assume what someone else wants!

Kathleen and I met up in Rosslyn and did a big loop that included running over Memorial Bridge, all the way down the National Mall, around the Capitol, back down the National Mall…

Along the waterfront towards Georgetown, up onto the canal in Georgetown…

And then over Key Bridge and ending at Compass Coffee in Rosslyn.

I’ve gotten pretty good at estimating distance for runs in DC – it ended up being right around 9 miles, which is what we were going for! We just did a couple extra block laps to hit the final 9.

Last weekend’s 9 miler felt relatively easy… this weekend’s felt tough. Weird how that happens! Proud of us for pushing through.

DC half marathon training

Our run last weekend reminded us how fun it is to end runs with a little coffee/snack vs. just saying bye right away… hoping we can do this for most of our runs!

I had one of their savory pastries stuffed with chorizo and cheese, plus a decaf latte (it was already noon and I’m old and can’t have caffeine that late in the day or else I can’t fall asleep!).

My second lunch was once I got home – Matt had picked up some big salads for us and we shared.

We both worked again during naptime and then made a sausage and white bean dish for dinner (it was a Sun Basket meal <- affiliate link).

We served it over some pasta because the meal needed more carbs. The flavor was delicious, though!

There was a side salad with it but we weren’t feeling it since we just had big salads for lunch, so we saved it for another day.

Matt and I are both working today, but it’s more fun than usual because we are currently at a coffee shop “co-working” together! 🙂 He technically has a holiday today but is slammed at work so we’re both busy catching up. It was a nice treat to have him join for our stroller dog walk this morning, though, since he didn’t have to get into the office/take any early calls like usual! (Our Monday sitter arrives at 10, and Riese and I always walk the dog before she arrives.)

We are both calling it quits early and having friends over for dinner/a playdate tonight, which will be fun; my Slow Cooker Chicken Tikka Masala is currently bubbling away at home! It’s one of the meals my friend Jackie and I prepped ahead at our meal prep party a couple weekends ago, so all I had to do was defrost it and toss it in the slow cooker. Easy.

Have a nice day and I’ll see you guys back here on Wednesday!

Oh the hunger on long run day is real! I workout first thing on weekdays, so I really like getting to kick back and take my time before going out for my weekend long run. We didn't plan it, but we had a big storm on Valentine's Day so we stayed home and had a staycation day and it was wonderful.

Was just having this discussion with a friend. Yesterday's workout was fantastic, this mornings was so bad I almost bailed on it but pushed through. Definitely was not feeling it, so strange how that happens, though I wondered if pushing through was the right call...

It's sometimes tough to tell where that line is with when pushing it is a good thing/challenge vs. a bad idea! This past weekend it was definitely on the challenge side for me - I didn't feel like anything was seriously wrong, just felt like my legs were a little heavy.

Mid-morning or even mid-afternoon runs are so much nicer than dragging yourself out of bed for an early morning run, especially when still dark out! Nice that you have come to appreciate that. Enjoy!

For sure! I've always appreciated that, it just isn't easy to make mid-morning or mid-afternoon happen with work/childcare etc! Wish I could more often though because it's sooo much nicer!

Hi Anne, my weekend was rather lazy as we stayed in most of the time. We only went out for our grocery shopping. On the upside, relaxed a lot and cooked all meals at home. Your weekend looked like a lot of fun, though.
