Just popping in quickly to share some photos from last night’s 5k! A group of friends and I all ran the first 5k in the Crystal City 5k Fridays series that runs every Friday this April (and again later in the summer, too)!

GO!

I wasn’t really planning on “racing” this race since I have the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler on Sunday morning… but then Matt and all my friends took off like bullets at the start! Oh, we’re sprinting this?! Okay then…! 🙂

Matt and my college friends Kathleen and Sarah and I all ran most of the way together, with the others in our group blasting ahead. Props to them – speed demons!!

Whew!

Official results: 3.1 miles in 24:03 for an average pace of 7:45. Obviously racing a 5k a day and a half before wanting to do well in a 10 miler probably wasn’t the best idea, but whatever. Life is for living, right?! Time to bond with my foam roller. 🙂

After the race, all of us headed to a nearby bar sweaty and with our bibs still pinned to our chests to enjoy some beers, burgers, fries, and each other’s company. Great Friday night!

Have a nice weekend, everyone! I’ll be back Monday with a recap of the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler – best of luck to those of you running it this weekend, too! And a HUGE good luck to my brother, who is running his first full marathon on Sunday!

Congrats on the great time! I love that you went for burgers and beers after - that's exactly what I'd have done - you earned it!

That's a great time! Especially since you weren't gunning for a speedy race, lol. Have a great run tomorrow, it will go great. I just finished the Bridge Run here in Charleston, my legs = dead!

I love going out after races with my bib still attached. That is one of the most fun things about the after-the-race I think. Good conversation starters to be sure. :) Congrats on your speedy time, looked like a fun race!

Wow...so envious of your seemingly injury resistant body, able to withstand race after race. Ahhh, the beauty of youth :) Enjoy, Anne (and go girl!)

I'm very much not resistant to injury! If you read some of my early race recaps (http://www.fannetasticfood.com/running/race-recaps/) you'll see I was actually having a bit of knee/ankle/calf trouble for quite awhile when I first started doing longer races back in 2009/2010. I've discovered what works best for me is 1) only running 3 days per week when i'm training for longer races, 2) foam rolling and icing after every run, 3) wearing calf compression sleeves during runs when i'm training for a longer race, and 4) doing a lot of cross training/yoga/stretching!

Do you live in Crystal City? I lived there for three years during law school. I didn't love it at first (so many office parks), but it grew on me! I like how there are activities like this weekly 5K...it seems like people are trying to make CC a more vibrant community.
