Exercise Game Plan for Pre-Half Marathon Week!

Yesterday evening I had a running date with my grad school buddy Lauren!

Apparently we both got the blue tank top memo. (Jenny, thank you for my new Under Armour tank top! I loved it — especially the racer back cut. Super comfy!)

I was actually supposed to run with a blogger buddy (which is why I was running in the evening — you guys know I’m normally an early morning runner!), but we ended up postponing. Luckily, Lauren wanted to run! Perfect timing. We haven’t run together in awhile and I missed her! Running is always my favorite way to catch up with friends. 🙂

She came over to my place around 5 p.m. and we had a great speedy and chatty run through my VERY hilly neighborhood. I was super impressed with our pace given all the hills!

Splits:

  • Mile 1: 8:14
  • Mile 2: 8:13
  • Mile 3: 8:35
  • Mile 4: 8:53

Total time: 33:57. Average pace: 8:28. Woohoo! The last two miles were especially massively hilly. I was excited we stayed under 9 min/miles!

So as you guys know, I’ll be running the Tobacco Road Half Marathon this weekend (on Sunday). It will be my 4th half marathon. Here’s the game plan for exercise this week:

  • Monday: Tennis (check!)
  • Tuesday: 4 mile run (check!)
  • Wednesday: 1.5 hour power yoga at Franklin Street Yoga
  • Thursday: 4 mile run (early a.m.)
  • Friday: Low key elliptical (~30 mins) and arm strength
  • Saturday: Chill and rest up! Maybe some easy walks.
  • Sunday: Tobacco Road Half Marathon!

I wish the race were on Saturday — I’m not a big fan of Sunday races because then you spend all weekend kind of waiting for it/resting up (and you guys know how active I like to be on weekends). But, it’s all good. I’m excited! My last race was the Las Vegas Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon in December, but I ran that for fun vs. time, so I’m excited to try to bust it out speed-wise on Sunday. We’ll see! I’ll talk more about goals later this week.

As for now — check out my previous half marathon race recaps! It seems like just yesterday I was gearing up for my first — I can’t believe this weekend’s will be my 4th!

  • Las Vegas Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon (Las Vegas, NV) — December 2011
  • National Half Marathon (Washington, DC) — March 2011 (*PR: 1:51:47)
  • Zooma Half Marathon (Annapolis, MD) — June 2010 — 95 degrees = hardest. race. ever.

Good luck this weekend! I wish I had some buddies to run with around here--but my friend who runs is a little more experienced than me. I don't think I could keep up with the 15 miles she does some days!!!

I clicked on the banana and watched the video on belly fat and what foods to avoid. They said that wheat bread is bad and years ago when I was about 10 or 11 my mama told me to always avoid wheat bread because it was bad for you. Ha, "always listen to mama because mama knows best."

What banana? I think everything in moderation - no point in avoiding things entirely - just don't have too much of anything!
