Hey guys! I’m so excited that you enjoyed reading my brother’s recap from his awesome winter ascent of Mt. Hood as much as I did! I figure if you’re reading my blog you like adventure and would enjoy that post, and I was right. 🙂 Since many of you said you’d be interested in reading about his other two big mountain summits (Mt. Rainier and Mt. Adams – you already read about his Mt. St. Helens ascent with me and Matt!), I’ll share those later this month! Stay tuned. 🙂

As for me, I’ve been keeping things MUCH more low key on the workout front than my brother! Yesterday morning I wanted to join my track group but I ended up going to bed late on Monday and didn’t want to skimp on sleep – plus, my hamstrings were feeling a bit tight and sore after our weekend ski trip. So instead I slept in an hour and a half later and then convinced Matt to join me on a short neighborhood run before we both headed off to work. 🙂 He’s in the off season for soccer right now so he’s actually been interested in doing some runs with me during the week, which is fun! We just did a quick 2 miles because we didn’t have a ton of time, and then I came back and spent some time with the foam roller.

I’m planning to hit the track later this week instead, and even texted my track buddies of my plans so I would have some accountability. 😉 It’s been really hard motivating to get out for runs in the cold and dark lately, especially when we’re gone on the weekends and I miss out on the prime time group runs and get out of the running groove! Zara agrees.

On the food front, I had a really delicious breakfast on Monday – my high school friend Jenny was in town briefly so we made plans to grab a late breakfast before she left town. Glad I got the chance to see her! We went to Cassatt’s Kiwi Café in Arlington – I love their breakfast quesadilla with eggs, cheese, and mushrooms!

Yesterday’s breakfast at home was also delicious – we had some leftover scrambled eggs with tomato from Sunday that I reheated and paired with toast topped with Whole Foods guac (the best). Yummm!

And that’s all I have for you today! Have a fabulous day. 🙂

Anyone else having trouble motivating for winter running lately?

Can't wait to read about your brother's trips to Mt Rainier and Mt Adams! I went skiing for the first time last weekend, and now the outside of my right calf hurts a bit. Not a whole lot--I still went for a run yesterday--but enough that I want it to stop already. Would foam rolling help with that?

Yikes, I'm sorry to hear that! I'd try foam rolling and epsom salt baths - or go get a sports massage! I hope it's better soon!

Breakfast Quesadillas are my favorite breakfast food ever, right behind any other type of quesadilla. I usually make a veggie-packed quiche and then stuff that in a tortilla for healthy breakfast quesadillas all week!

I'm relieved I'm not the only one! The dark and cold have made it so hard for me too. When we are in town, I get more pumped for long runs because I can go once it's light and warm(er!) During the week I'm all about classes inside and short, easy runs outside :)

I know I totally agree - I've had no problem with weekend runs when we're actually here, but the weekday mornings have been so hard to motivate... been loving the classes too!

I've been having trouble getting motivated for summer running! haha. That breakfast tortilla sounds amazing! Definitely going to have to recreate at home over the weekend :) And yay for extra sleep! I can't wait until we go away next weekend to spend at least one lazy morning in bed, or maybe just take an afternoon nap since we are going to be staying near some awesome walking trails ;)
