Hi friends! Brace yourself – this post is going to be niiiice and random.

First: hello from the train! I’m playing hooky today and heading up to Philadelphia to see my college BFFs Turner (who had a baby a couple months ago I’ve been dying to meet) and Kris (who is in town visiting from Paris)! I’ll be back in DC tonight and then Matt and I leave for the beach (Outer Banks) tomorrow. Lots of excitement!

I just enjoyed an egg salad sandwich (two hard boiled eggs + plain yogurt + dijon mustard + some salt, pepper, and dill, topped with some baby kale on sprouted grain bread) and some grapes for breakfast. Yum! I ate the first half of the sandwich before taking this photo. 😉

In related news, I <3 the train. So nice to not stress out about driving – and love that I can spend the 2 hour trip each way getting work done, too!

Speaking of quick portable breakfasts, here’s what I had yesterday! I did a tempo run in the morning (15 minutes at half marathon pace, 5 minute jog, then 5 minutes at 10 miler pace)…

And then had a chocolate milk and some almonds while getting ready before rushing out to meet an AnneTheRD client. Since I was running late and only had time for a post-workout snack at home, I threw together a portable breakfast to eat after my meeting before heading downtown. Two hard boiled eggs, two apricots, and one and a half oatmeal bars (recipe coming next week) along with some extra almonds. Great mix of protein (eggs), fiber (oatmeal bars/fruit), healthy fat (almonds), and juiciness (fruit). I enjoyed it with a whole milk iced latte.

While we’re talking about food – look! Our basil plant is alive!! Unfortunately the other two plants we tried to start from seed are not, however… but 1 out of 3 isn’t bad, right?! 😉 Hello, basil… I’m excited to eat you! I took this photo a few days ago and it’s already like 3 times the size now! Bring on the pesto.

On the fitness front, today I’m enjoying a nice rest day, but Wednesday’s workout was part of a media open house that Gold’s Gym in Clarendon hosted to celebrate the launch of two new group fitness classes. Their gym classes are all on ClassPass, so I figured it was worth checking the class preview out because if I liked them, I could use ClassPass to hit them up in the future! My favorite was one called GRIT – it’s a 30 minute interval workout and there are different tracks – we did a mix of cardio and strength and it was LEGIT. Totally hitting this up if I see it pop up on ClassPass later – it launches this weekend.

To continue the randomness, something else exciting I discovered this week with my friend Ashley: House of Steep in Arlington! It’s a super cute place with great tea, as the name suggests, but they also offer foot soaks (using all sorts of different herbs to to energize, or relax, or refresh, or whatever) and massages. Iced green tea + a “muscle ache” foot soak? Don’t mind if I do! It made for a fun friend date. 🙂 Ashley is actually staying at our place this coming week to take care of our fluffy friend while we’re at the beach – yay for not having to board her.

And speaking of our fluffy friend, I will leave you with a photo (on the left below) that I texted Matt earlier this week. (This makes Zara look like we’ve been feeding her too much, but trust me, it’s ALL fluff. She’s quite athletic and energetic!) We call this her “ladylike pose.” Lol! Even better was what he texted back a few minutes later – the photo on the right below. I was dying! Sometimes it’s the little things. 🙂

Have a wonderful weekend! I’ll be blogging next week from the beach, but kicking things off on Monday with a guest post before popping back in with some beach updates and the oatmeal bar recipe later on. Stay tuned!

Great info, I'm not sure if other readers are having this same issue, but the large video at right at the top of your page is really slowing down my ability to view your site, and it's really obtrusive.
