Hello from Portland, Oregon!

As you guys know, I’m here for Fitbloggin’ – a fun annual fitness blogger’s conference that I had the pleasure of attending in 2010 and 2011, too. It’s nice to be back! This year, I’m here courtesy of Reebok – a big thank you to them for sponsoring me. I’m very grateful and excited to be here! 🙂

The conference just started this morning, but I arrived early on Wednesday so I’d have time to explore Portland a little before the madness began because I’ve never been here before! I’ll recap the conference-related stuff later, but for now here are some of the non-conference related highlights. 🙂 Thank you for all the fun recommendations!

I have to say, the food here is AWESOME. So many fresh, organic and veggie-filled options – I love it! So far, I’ve enjoyed lunch at Laughing Planet:

laughing_planet_portlandBeet + carrot juice and their seasonal special – steamed kale, pork, beans, cheese, and veggies with salsa/guac – YUM!

I’m also especially in love with Kure juice bar!

IMG_3425

My buddy Gina and I enjoyed breakfast there yesterday before heading off to yoga (more on that in a sec). It was amazing – we’re going back again this afternoon for juice!

kure juice barCoconut yogurt parfait, green tea latte, & a coconut banana bar! I saved about half of the food for later – eyes bigger than stomach!

Another food highlight was pho for lunch yesterday at Luc Lac Vietnamese Kitchen. I treated myself to a massage on Wednesday night (my shoulders/neck were in need of some serious help, and the prices here were WAY better than DC), and the massage guy recommended this place. It was great! (p.s. If you are ever in Portland and looking for a massage – I went to David Emery Massage and would highly recommend it!)

And lastly on the food highlights, of course, Voodoo Doughnuts. 🙂

IMG_3439

I couldn’t come to Portland without hitting this place up, according to you guys, and I’m glad I took your advice! There was a line but it was totally worth it.

IMG_3440

I got my favorite – a raspberry jelly doughnut. As you know, my approach as a Registered Dietitian is all about moderation and enjoying indulgence when it’s worth it. And this was so worth it. 🙂 Yum!

On the exercise front, I have to give some love to Yoga Pearl – Gina (check out her beautiful form!) and I went there yesterday morning for a 1.5 hour heated power vinyasa class and it was AMAZING.

Not only was the class great, but the studio was gorgeous and even had a really cool health food café inside. Oh, Portland. You do food right.

I have to end, of course, with the #1 highlight so far – these girls. 🙂

It’s been so great catching up with them (and meeting Heather for the first time, who is so sweet)! My favorite part of traveling for conferences is always seeing old friends and making new ones. 🙂

Time to get back to the conference! We’ve had a busy and fun morning – more on that later, but in the meantime, you can see what I’ve been up to via Twitter and Instagram. 🙂

Happy Friday from the west coast, everyone, and have a great weekend!

I have traveled to Portland for work before, and it is really one of my favorite cities. I think it's so great - so much to do, so much culture, etc!

Portland was recently rated as I think second best city for vegan food in America! I'm seriously considering making a trip over (all the way from Ireland!) purely for the healthy eats and environment!!!

I love Portland! My daughters used to live there and I got to visit all the time. I recognize everything and my granddaughter knew the names of all of the bridges before she was three!

You should definitely venture across the river! And while you're on the eastside, stop by The Meadow on N Mississippi. 100+ kinds of artisan salt (lemon flake, black truffle, Murray darling, fleur de sel il de re) and an outrageous selection of single origin chocolates and bitters! The owner, Mark Bitterman, was just on the Portland episode of Bizarre foods. A definite place to stop into if you’re in that area and you appreciate artisan goods!

I'm so happy you are enjoying our pretty little town and the sun came out for your visit. I work 2 blocks from Yoga Pearl. I see you're staying at The Nines, right in the heart of town. Can't wait to read more about your visit here.
