Smith Mountain Lake aka Water Sport Paradise

I’m pretty sure Matt and I have found paradise, and it’s our friend Tim and Lindsey’s boat house. They don’t know it yet, but we’re never leaving.

001

Actually, it’s Tim’s parents’ boat house, but either way, it’s absolutely amazing. Right on the lake with a beautiful patio overlooking the water. Heaven.

061

We’re in Huddleston, VA at Smith Mountain Lake. What a gorgeous place! I love the mountain and lake combination.

Panoramic shot from Matt’s phone:

When Matt and I arrived yesterday afternoon, we got straight down to business. This is seriously like water sport adventure camp. I love it 🙂

First up — a boat ride and water skiing!

008

Their dog Babe was ready to rock 🙂

010

First up on the water skiing circuit was Tim. He’s pretty much insanely good — and this was on one ski, too!

017 016

Looks easy, right? It isn’t 😉

Next up was Matt!

018

He’s only been water skiing once before, so I was really impressed when he came right up and totally rocked it! Love his face in this photo, hahah:

019

He stayed up for a long time and even kept it together when we had to turn the boat!

023024

Nice job, Matt 🙂

And then… it was my turn. Gah!

025

This was my very first time trying water skiing! I was a bit scurred, but I figured… how hard can it be?

Um, yeah.

Fail.

030

And another fail.

035 My face looks really sexy in this one

Aaaaaand another fail.

026

Lol! At least I was laughing the whole time 🙂 Every attempt pretty much ended up with me doing an awkward split and flying forward onto my face, haha.

Lindsey (who is pregnant!! So exciting — but no water skiing for her, sadly) took pity and came out to help me, hehe.

028

It actually really helped and I was able to get up and stand once!!! Thanks, Lindsey 🙂

041

But… unfortunately Matt (my photographer) had given up on me at this point and was too busy taking pictures of the dog and missed getting a photo of me actually standing, lol.

031

Oh, well 🙂 Today’s mission: stand up for more than 3.5 seconds on the water skis. I can do it!!!

When we returned to the dock, the water sports continued. 🙂

045

003 005

Weeeee!

050

Check out this stellar form!

048

The dogs were the welcoming back party 🙂

007

Have you guys even seen the website Leisure Dive? Blog reader Jordan posted a link to it in the comments of my diving board flip video post and I was totally obsessed with it! If you haven’t seen it, you must. The photos are so hilarious.

Matt and I decided we had to take a photo to submit to it, heh. Check this out:

012

Just chillin out, drinking a beer, no big deal

Isn’t that amazing? We were all dying over it. Here’s the runner up:

011

Lol. I might try to do one today, too, hehe.

The rest of the afternoon was filled with various boats! Lindsey and I took the kayaks out for a spin while the boys went out on the jet skis:

053 055

And when they got back, Matt and I went out on a jet ski together! I freaking LOVE these things.

056

VROOM!

058

What an amazing and fun day. This post is becoming a beast so I’ll save a recap of our dinner (we went to a restaurant via boat!) for a bit later! As for now — the lake and this hammock await 🙂

059

Have a wonderful day, friends!

Your day looks so fabulous Anne! Those photos of Matt are freaking fantastic. Did you have to take like 75 to get two good ones?! I would! Hehe.

Ha I have so many things to say. First of all, how sore are your shoulders today? Jetskiing, water skiing, and kayaking? All of those kill my shoulders! It's really hard to get up the first couple of times when you are water skiing, but you'll get the hang of it! Just make sure to keep your knees bent and DON'T try to pull yourself up with your arms. Let the boat do the work! Annnd lastly my favorite part of the leisure dive is Matt's pointed toes! You can tell he used to be a gymnast hahaha.

Omg, SO sore! Haha. My hips are sore, too, since I did like 18 splits, lol. I loved the pointed toes in the photo, too! We titled it "Ballet meets boozing", hahah.

If it's possible to have too much fun - you & & Matt succeeded. What a great view and all the different water activities. Wish I was there.

That looks like so much fun Anne and Matt. I am very envious of those who can swim because I can't. I'm not afraid of the water, but I am afraid I will sink and we have a pool. Continue having fun and drink one for me.

I LOVE Smith Mountain Lake! I grew up in Southwest Virginia so SML was a staple for camping, day trips, etc! I have tried numerous times to ski and wake board and NEVER can make it up! I hope you can make it up today!
