Hello from beautiful Duck, NC in the Outer Banks!

20140714_103036

Matt and I arrived on Sunday evening and have been enjoying the beach ever since! We’re here with family and friends – we have two big houses and others in hotels, too. Quite the crew!

On Sunday night, our big group all convened at one of the houses for a BBQ feast.

Matt’s dad homemade all the BBQ and brought it down here for us to enjoy – it was delicious! Impressed. 🙂 He made some homemade sauce, too. My favorite was the mustard/vinegary BBQ sauce – so unique!

Plus corn on the cob, of course! Summer corn is the best.

Here’s my plate – a little pulled pork and vinegar slaw, and some BBQ chicken with tomato BBQ sauce. I went back for a piece of corn!

IMG_6075

Those dill pickles were homemade by me and Matt – more on that next week!

On Monday I set out for a short run before we hit the pool and beach for the rest of the day.

It was hot so I did a short run – about 2.5 miles – but stopped halfway through to do some strength stuff – squats, lunges, pushups, situps, dips, etc!

It felt good to get a sweat on first thing.

As for the beach, I was too busy riding the waves and playing various beach games with the others to take pictures, apparently, except for this one from happy hour. 🙂

On Monday night, kabobs were on the menu. So good!

Corn makes quite a lovely centerpiece, don’t you think?

On Tuesday morning, we saw a sign that there would be a free outdoor yoga class at 7:30 a.m. on the Duck main town green, so Matt’s mom, his brother Drew’s girlfriend Morgana, and I made the walk over to get our ohm on. Apparently they offer this every Tuesday in summer!

Beach towels make great yoga mats, in case you were wondering. 😉 It was a nice and low key class taught by one of the instructors from Village Yoga in Duck. Felt good to stretch! The rest of yesterday was spent kickin’ it at the pool and then going out to dinner. It ended up being such a beautiful, sunny day!

It’s gray and a bit drizzly out today so we’ve kept things low key so far – we slept in, enjoyed a frittata…

…and then a few of us walked into Duck to Village Yoga to try out one of their late morning classes. Beautiful studio and great class, too! Check it out if you come to OBX. 🙂 A drop in including a yoga mat rental was $17.

It’s raining again now but that won’t stop us from pool volleyball! Bring it on. 🙂

Hey, I loved this post as I'm thinking of visiting North Carolina next year. I'm from London and planning on visiting some friends who live in the states in April- North Carolina was one of the places we were considering stopping off at- which are the best seaside towns? Thanks! Jess x
