Worth Waking Up For.

Morning, friends!

On Tuesday morning, I made it out for another early morning run! As you know, on Tuesdays I usually join my evening Lululemon Georgetown run club, but we had dinner plans for Matt’s birthday so I knew I had to fit the workout in in the morning, instead.

I dragged myself out of bed at 5:35 and headed downstairs to meet my friend Sokphal for a run. Having a running buddy that lives in your apartment building? Priceless.

Also priceless? Enjoying this view. Completely worth waking up for.

Sokphal and I ran down along by the water on the Mt. Vernon Trail, doing 2.5 miles out and back for a total of 5 miles. The run flew by, not only due to the scenery but also because of the company! Sokphal and I hadn’t seen each other in a few weeks so we had a lot to catch up on. Here we are half asleep and sweaty in the middle of the run. 🙂

I don’t think seeing the monuments on a normal weekday run will ever get old.

The last mile of the run was basically one massive hill as we ran back up into Arlington, but we were able to push each other through and maintained a really good pace, even picking it up into a sprint in the last bit! Great run — it felt good to push myself.

5 miles — check! Here are our splits.

  • Mile 1: 8:55
  • Mile 2: 8:46
  • Mile 3: 8:43
  • Mile 4: 9:01
  • Mile 5: 9:10

Not too shabby, especially considering the last mile was basically steep uphill like I said! Our average overall pace was 8:55.

Time to head off to my dietetic internship at the hospital — staff relief is going well so far this week! I’m covering 2 floors of patients on my own and it’s nice to be able to plan my own day and have a little more independence, although I was pretty independent before as well, depending on the rotation. I have one more week of work at the hospital and I can’t WAIT until it’s over. It’s been a great experience (minus the hellish commute) and I’ve learned SO much, but I’ve reached the point where I’m ready to be done and move on, one step closer to graduation (and finally making some money again). I’m done next Friday and then get one week off after I finish before starting my final internship, which is 10 weeks, ending in November a couple weeks before Thanksgiving. I’ll also be spending time in the fall working on my masters paper, which we go back to UNC to present right after Thanksgiving (and then we graduate, too)! I’ll share more details about my fall internships soon, but I’m excited — much more along the lines of what I want to be doing in the future when I get my RD!

Have a great day, everyone!

Lovely photo's. You have a lot on your plate, Anne. You have accomplished so much since you first started your blog. Just curious, do you plan on expanding your blog and using your RD knowledge in that field or do you plan to work in a hospital as and RD. Whatever you do I am sure you will be a success.

I definitely don't want to work in a hospital - I think I want to do a combination of some sort of part time nutrition-related job and then part time expanding the blog and doing more RD-related articles, partnerships, etc. I also might start doing online counseling via my blog using video chat!

I wish I had been into running when I lived in DC. I'm so jealous of monument runs now!

Hooray for almost being done with internships! I have about 2 weeks left of my internship, and I'm so excited to get back to school to finish up with my last year! Another hooray for morning runs. Even though they're so hard to get up for, they are always worth it!

Your view is amazing! I would also love waking up and go for a run if such a view would welcome me :) I mean - my city park is not to shabby, but nothing compared to the beautiful riverside above.
