I had such a great weekend — I was in Chapel Hill (North Carolina) visiting some of my grad school BFFs. It was wonderful to see them and to be back in my old ‘hood. I miss it! For those who are just tuning in, I’m working on a Masters of Public Health in Nutrition from UNC-Chapel Hill — Matt and I lived there for nearly 2 years and just moved back to DC in May for me to finish up my dietetic internships. We loved it there.
I drove down on Friday after work, arrived around 10, and spent the night drinking wine and catching up with Elle while waiting for our friend Lauren to arrive (she drove in from GA). I can’t believe I haven’t seen these girls since May — sadness! On Saturday morning, the three of us met up with our other grad school buddy Steph. The girls had signed up for a small 5k happening on campus!
Lauren (in the middle) is such an awesome runner that she’s sponsored by PowerBar — how cool is that?
I really wanted to do the race with the girls, but unfortunately it started at 9 a.m., which was also the same time that my favorite instructor Lori at Franklin Street Yoga was teaching her only class of the weekend! I decided yoga it was.
I was so happy to pay a visit to my favorite studio! The class didn’t disappoint.
After yoga, I met back up with the girls and the four of us headed to another favorite — Jessee’s.
This place is so freaking cute — hands down my favorite breakfast spot. Mostly because of this:
I dream about that breakfast. The biscuit is to die for.
The girls and I walked around town for a little bit after eating.
We swung by our public health building on campus, just for fun:
And then we headed to the pool! NC is magical and pools don’t close until like a month after Labor Day. Once there, we met up with our other grad school friends Jill and Maria!
After a few hours in the sun, it was off to another favorite — Maple View Farm!!!
Happiest place on earth.
Check out the scary storm clouds that were looming:
The girls and I had talked about going out for dinner and drinks but decided in the end we’d have more fun kicking it in our PJ’s at Elle’s house, making homemade pizza and drinking champagne. Best decision ever.
I was having too much fun with the girls to take many photos, but we bought the whole wheat dough from Trader Joe’s and covered it with all sorts of fun toppings. We also made a big salad.
For dessert, we celebrated Lauren’s birthday! It was her birthday on Saturday so the trip to Chapel Hill was in her honor.
What a fun filled day. We all ended up having a sleepover party at Elle’s and it was wonderful to spend time with some of my favorite ladies! (Elder and Libby, we missed you!!!)
I’m back in DC now and off to work, but I’ll be back to share part 2 of our weekend adventures in Chapel Hill.
