8 Miles – Check!

Good morning and happy Sunday!

I haven’t talked about it much since I’ve been a liiiiittle bit distracted by wedding planning (6 days to go!!), but I’m running the Army 10 Miler the weekend after the wedding! I didn’t make a specific training plan this time around (I do have past 10 miler training plans on my running training plans page if you’re interested), because I knew I’d be really busy leading up to the race, but I’ve been sticking to about 3 runs per week, with one longer run on the weekends. Plus about 1 day of Crossfit, 1 day of yoga, 1 day of elliptical/weights or a bootcamp or Crossfit again, and 1 day of rest!

Yesterday, I ran 8 miles with my friend Sokphal!

It was a gorgeous morning for a run — a little warm but the air was crisp and the sun was shining so I couldn’t complain.

Oh hi, Lincoln and Washington Monuments!

We did a big loop that included running on the beautiful Mt. Vernon trail along the Potomac River. LOVE this trail on pretty weather days. You just can’t beat that view!

Even though it was a gorgeous morning for a run and I had good company to chat away with the whole time, this run still felt hard. My body was just feeling tired — not a shocker considering how busy I’ve been lately!

It didn’t help that we finished the run on 1 mile of straight uphill. UGH! But we did it. High fives all around — 8 miles, done! This will be my last longer run before the race because obviously next weekend I’ll be a little busy, you know, getting married. Although I’m totally thinking of getting some of the girls together for a casual 3 or 4 miler the morning of the wedding, just to have a little breather before the big day!

Splits:

  • Mile 1: 8:50
  • Mile 2: 9:07
  • Mile 3: 9:01
  • Mile 4: 9:05
  • Mile 5: 9:13
  • Mile 6: 9:16
  • Mile 7: 9:25
  • Mile 8: 9:52 (hill of death)

Whew! 8 miles in 1:13:55 — average overall pace was 9:14.

Thanks for the run, Sokphal! 🙂

Matt and I spent the rest of yesterday having a cleaning throw down in our apartment. We literally spent 5 hours organizing/tidying up and cleaning — it was way past due and we were exhausted when we were finished but it was well worth it today to wake up to a nice clean (and organized) place. Thankfully my parents took us out to dinner last night because we would have been too wiped to make dinner!

As for today, I’ve had a lovely day so far — cashed in my free birthday class this morning at Down Dog Yoga in Georgetown (I still like Stroga way better, but I’m not one to pass up a free class!), and then came home to Matt making pancakes! Awesome Sunday morning. Now I’m off with my mom to my FINAL wedding dress fitting — eek! Hope it’s perfect. 🙂

Have a great day, everyone!

I think an easy run the morning of your wedding day is a fabulous idea. Run the jitters out!

A morning wedding run is the best! My husband and I went for a run together the day of our weddding. It was great to have some time together before the big day. I also had a mini tennis tourment with my friends and family the morning before the wedding. We had so much fun!

I was actually thinking about that on my run this morning--Meghann and I are going to do a long run on the morning of your wedding if you'd like to join for a few miles of it :)

I'm so excited for you, Anne, and I wish you and Matt all the best! I went for a run on our wedding day (almost three months ago!) with my mom, brother, and brother-in-law. It was the perfect way to begin the day, and I look back on that one hour together with such fondness. I hope your final fitting goes well. I know you will be a beautiful bride!

So excited for you, Anne! And looking forward to see the details post wedding. We did a short 3-4 mile run on the morning of my friend's wedding a few years ago as the sun was coming up. It was absolutely gorgeous. Great way to work off some steam.

Count me in as another supporter of the wedding morning run. I went with 2 of my (potentially hungover) bridesmaids for a 4 mile run the morning of the wedding and a bunch of us did a private yoga class Friday before heading out to the rehearsal. Both were highlights of the wedding weekend and gave me dedicated time to focus on the sense of community that comes with the wedding weekend, not just stress and logistics.

Thanks for getting me out there! :) And more importantly...thank you for introducing me to the yumminess of pumpkin yougart smoothie! So delish! And right in our own backyard! I think everyone agrees...you should do a run before the wedding! ;)

Beautiful scenery! I feel spoiled living where we do but I don't take advantage of it enough! I'd love to run along the Potomac [drive by it everyday!], so pretty :)

Great run! I'm jealous of the scenery you get to go by on your regular running route.
