Morning, friends!

Matt and I have been having such an awesome weekend here in Chapel Hill. Beautiful weather! We started out our Saturday with a run. I had 9 miles on the docket with Elle for Tarheel 10 Miler training (it’s in 2 weeks)!

We hit up the Tobacco Trail (scene of my Tobacco Road Half Marathon PR a couple weeks ago) for our run. Matt came too! He was hoping to play pickup soccer but no one was around, so he joined us for the first 3-ish miles of our run and then turned back, covering a total of 6.4 miles. A new distance record for him! He’s turning into quite the runner — I’m impressed. 🙂

This is Matt’s “Let’s do this” face:

Lol.

We had an awesome run! The sun was shining but there was a slight breeze and the air was nice and cold — a runner’s dream. I was so happy to be out there enjoying it!

IMG_1654

My legs felt great the whole time, too. We kept up a good, steady clip for the whole 9 miles!

Splits:

  • Mile 1: 8:34
  • Mile 2: 8:52
  • Mile 3: 8:34
  • Mile 4: 8:47
  • Mile 5: 8:42
  • Mile 6: 8:31
  • Mile 7: 8:50
  • Mile 8: 8:39
  • Mile 9: 8:45

Total time: 1:18:15. Average overall pace: 8:42 min/miles. Awesome run!

IMG_1655

Around 9 or 10 miles is the point where I start bringing fuel with me for runs — I had my standard favorite (Espresso Hammer Gel) at the turnaround point at mile 4.5.

IMG_1647

I also carried my CamelBak (for water) and brought my compression calf sleeves back out to play. I wear them on all longer runs; they have basically fixed my previous calf pain/soreness!

IMG_1658

9 miles — check!

IMG_1660

After our great runs, Matt and I got cleaned up and then headed in to Carrboro for brunch at my absolute favorite — Jessee’s.

IMG_1661

Man, I’m going to miss this place when we move. So cute and chill and I love their focus on local food, too.

IMG_1662

I had my usual, which is the open faced biscuit sandwich with scrambled eggs, white cheddar cheese, bacon, and tomato. SO. GOOD. They have the best biscuits.

IMG_1664

I also enjoyed some of their lavender earl gray iced tea — yum. Matt got the BLT, which you can see he is enjoying in the background. 🙂

We spent the rest of the day enjoying the weather, running a couple errands, and then met some friends for outdoor drinks. I just have to share this photo — we were out doing an errand when the car next to us suddenly stopped, so we did too. Thank goodness we did, because look what appeared!

IMG_1666

Isn’t that adorable?!?! I have no idea why the mother was leading all her babies fearlessly through the middle of a shopping center, but I sure hope they made it out okay.

We have another gorgeous day on our hands — we’re planning either a hike or a bike ride, plus a picnic. I’m also going to attempt to learn how to drive Matt’s stick shift car — we’re going to have tandem parking spots in DC so I need to learn how to move it if he’s not around. Gah! I figure it’s better to learn here in open empty roads than in DC in the middle of crazy traffic (or a parking garage).

I hope you’re all having a happy Sunday — and a happy Easter! Matt surprised me this morning with a cute Easter card and some goodies — including these beautiful tulips. 🙂 I took advantage of the opportunity to try out Instagram for the first time — it finally came to Droid and I downloaded it on my RAZR earlier this week!

Have a wonderful day!

Looks like you are having a gorgeous weekend! I can tell you from experience that the BEST way to get good at driving stick shift is do drive it full-time. Seriously -- learn the basics and then take Matt's car exclusively for a week or two. You'll be comfortable with it in no time if you make it your only option. Otherwise, if you don't let it become second nature, it's so easy to forget what you're doing or get nervous. Good luck!

Driving standard is fun once you figure it out. I stalled out everywhere around town for a week when I first learned, but then it all clicked. Something that helped me was when my friend informed me that my seat was pushed up too far, which made it more difficult to properly work the clutch... I didn't believe him at first, but then I moved the seat back just a hair and suddenly everything was exponentially easier. Good luck! :)

Oh, I tried to learn driving my husband's car (it was stick) years ago. It did not go well :P I'm sure I could learn, now that we're both older and wiser. Sounds like you had a perfect run, and that brunch place looks fantastic! I haven't been to DC but I've heard there are lots of great places to eat!

Those ducks are so cute. Your breakfast makes me miss living in the NC and yearning to visit one of my best friends in Chapel Hill!

First of all, LOVE the sound of lavender earl grey iced tea. Yum!! I wonder if they brew the tea with lavender buds - I've got some lavender at home that I'd love to try out. Driving stick is more of a scary thought, then in actuality. I forced myself to learn standard by purchasing my first car in stick. I couldn't even drive it off the lot. I wanted to overcome the mental block and fear my mother had. She said she could never do it. I didn't want her reality to be mine. It's actually really fun and you feel more in control of the car.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter, I know we did. The mommy and baby duckies are so cute. We have three duck families in our neighborhood and sometimes we have to just sit and wait for them to cross over to the pond. I'm a sucker for animals, except cats. It looks like you and Matt really had a great day.

Happy Easter! Good luck with the car, I drive a stick and love it, but I have been trying to get my husband to learn for years and is hasn't happened yet! He's worried if he learns to drive I'll make him drive my car and his car anytime we go anywhere! lol.

I tried driving stick here in Alexandria, since we figured it would be good if I knew how to drive my hubby's car. Ugh, it was terrible! It's good you're learning before you get here! I have a 10 mile race in 2 weeks as well, I'm so excited! GW Parkway Classic- you'll have to check it out next year when you're here!
