Because Cute Pants Make Workouts Better

First of all, thank you all so much for all the sweet comments on my Nike Women’s Half Marathon recap post from yesterday! Being able to share the excitement of a great race and a new PR with you guys keeps me going out there when my legs (and my mind) start feeling worn out, so thank you. 🙂 And a big congrats to those of you who also PRed or got out there and ran! I’m taking it easy on the workouts so far this week (total rest yesterday, a nice swim this morning), but I wanted to share a recap of some fun workouts I got in last week, since I haven’t talked CrossFit in awhile!

First things first – ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce to you the adorable mascot of our CrossFit gym, CrossFit Arlington:

IMG_2931

He’s huge, really fluffy, and super friendly. He hangs out while his owner does CrossFit most nights of the week, and it always makes me happy when he’s there. 🙂 I love how he was resting on kettlebells. Lol – such a CrossFit dog!

Matt and I have been hitting up CrossFit Arlington once or twice every week for an evening workout together. We only made it once last week given my trip to LA and my half marathon, but it was a fun one (disclaimer reminder: I’m partnering with them via the blog). On the docket for the strength/skill portion of class was Turkish Get-Ups!

IMG_2927

Have you ever done a Turkish Get-Up before? (Google it if you don’t know what it is!) I hadn’t! Thankfully, a lot of the others in the class were also newbies to the move and we had some very patient and attentive coaches helping us out to make sure we were doing it right. It was HARD even though I just had a little 10 lb. dumbbell!

IMG_2929

I started with a kettlebell but it was a little heavy since I was still figuring the move out, and all the 10 lb. kettlebells were already out with others. Dumbbell it was! I felt like I got the hang of the move by the end of it but it was still hard. Whew! Fun to try something new.

For the workout portion of class, we did a 20 minute “AMRAP” (as many reps as possible) of the following:

  • 5 pullups (I used two small red bands to help me with these)
  • 10 pushups ( I was able to do all these with no knees!)
  • 15 air squats

It was a good workout! The pullups were definitely the hardest for me, so I took them slow and steady. To use a band to assist with pullups, you wrap the band around the bar and then put your foot through it to stand on it. It provides a little assistance! There are varying bands of different thickness, but generally the thicker the band, the more help it will give you (and the easier the pullups will be). I’m happy to just be using the two thin red bands now! Progress. And I can do pullups with just one red band if we don’t have to do so many in a row!

Anyway! Did you notice the cool looking pants and tank top I’m wearing in the photos? They were sent to me this month by Reebok to test out as part of our ongoing partnership. The tank top is PWR Seamless Long Bra Top – it’s extremely comfortable and breathable, and I love the wide straps that come to a V in the back, too. It has a built in bra which is also nice! I bet it would be great for yoga, too.

And as for the pants, they’re the PWR Print Leggings. Aren’t they awesome?!

In addition to being really cool looking, they’re also extremely comfortable! They have a compression style fit for motion so they stretched nicely during the squats but didn’t ride up or down, either. I’m really loving Reebok’s pants lately – they also sent me a pair of the PWR Fitted Capris this month – I tested them out at a boot camp at Ultimate Fitness Kickboxing (part of NOVA MMA/CrossFit Arlington) last weekend as well as during another CrossFit class and they were great.

I love the “STRNGTH” writing on the back waistband, and as with the other pants, these were extremely comfortable and moved well with me, but didn’t ride up or down during the workout, either. They also come in black!

I shared a picture of the printed leggings on my Instagram last week and they were such a hit that I asked Reebok if I could share the love. They said yes, so I decided it would be fun to do the giveaway via my Facebook page just to mix it up! Pssst: Have you liked fANNEtastic food on Facebook? Keep an eye out over there – I’ll share the giveaway later today, probably around 3 p.m. EST! 🙂 Good luck!

Have a great day, everyone!

How are your workouts going so far this week?

My workouts have been KILLER this week! I feel like the instructors are trying to make us puke, pass out, die, or -- quite possibly -- all of the above. Despite how much I'm whining about 'em, though, I'm LOVING the burn! :)

Great idea to add those bands to be able to do pull ups. I've only ever used the assisted pull up machine to be able to attempt them but never been strong enough to do it without it.

I am loving crazy pants lately. These are awesome! I have become obsessed with being able to do one unassisted pull by the end of the summer but I think I need to get some bands to help move things along.

You can do it!! Start with a band for sure to work up to it. I think I'll make that my goal, too!

I did Turkish get-ups for the first time recently with the yellow kettle bells. Yikes, they are rough! Probably would've been a better idea to trade out for a dumbbell. I wish I could bring my pups when I workout! They wouldn't be that patient though... I'm almost positive they would demand to be fully involved in the action!

I'm always surprised by how well behaved his dog is - just hangs out in the corner watching the action and looking for head rubs when anyone walks by. :)
