Hello and happy Monday, friends!

I had a fantastic (fANNEtastic?) weekend in Cape May, NJ at the beach with my college BFF Turner and her family!

I’ve seriously been so spoiled with all these awesome trips lately! Turner’s family owns a condo in Cape May and I’ve been inviting myself there just about every summer since college 🙂 Her family is awesome and we always have a blast.

076

Last summer was the first summer I missed in years because I was so swamped with finishing work and my prerequisites (intensive in-person microbiology and online biochem = death) before heading to start school at UNC. I promised her parents I would never miss a summer again 😉 It was wonderful to be back!

015

Here are some highlights. 🙂

1) Hot dogs at Hot Dog Tommy’s!

001

Hot Dog Tommy’s is one of my absolute favorite places in Cape May! It’s a walk up hot dog stand right by the beach, and every summer we stop by at least once for a beach lunch of hot dogs. Everyone loves this place and there’s always a huge line because not only are the hot dogs delicious (creative toppings, too), but Tommy himself is practically a celebrity in Cape May. We spent Friday at the beach and clearly had to pay him a visit! Look — I got a photo with him!!

002

Aren’t his rainbow shoes and his hot dog hat awesome? He wears them every day 🙂

I got two hot dogs — one traditional with relish, mustard, and extra ketchup:

003

And one Jersey Slaw Dog! It’s Turner’s favorite so I decided it was time to try it 🙂 It comes topped with mustard and a cranberry slaw — so yummy and not too mayonnaise-y, either.

004

2) A dolphin-filled boat trip!

039

044

Turner’s parents own a boat and know that I love going out on it, so they were excited to take us for a ride. Their dog, Tagus, came along too! He’s my favorite 🙂

042

He’s a Portuguese Water Dog, which means he’s hypoallergenic and doesn’t shed at all. Awesome! Plus, he’s adorable 🙂

046

I kind of want to steal him. 🙂

We had such a fun boat ride — and look who came out to play — dolphins!!

048

There were a ton right around our boat! Apparently they are all over the place in Cape May. We saw some from the beach the day before, too. I love watching them play. One even jumped for us!

052

3) Ice cream at Bliss Homemade Organic Ice Cream.

058

Apparently I get really excited about good ice cream

This place is brand new and I think it’s seriously THE best ice cream I’ve ever had. I had the cinnamon clove flavor — AHHH!!! Amazing. It’s whipped style ice cream so nice and smooth and creamy, and I love that all the ingredients are organic, too. If you’re ever in Cape May, please show them some love! 🙂 They’re located in the Carpenter’s Square indoor walking mall area, at 31 Perry Street. Right by Geckos’s mexican restaurant, where we went for dinner! (Also amazing)

4) A 5 Mile Run through Cape May!

060

On Saturday morning, Turner and I got up and did a 5 mile run through town and along the sea wall. It was hot and sweaty but I love the scenery in Cape May (cutest houses ever) and it felt good to be out and moving!

061

We ran the 5 miles in 43:49 for an average pace of 8:44.

Splits:

  • Mile 1: 8:50
  • Mile 2: 8:37
  • Mile 3: 9:00
  • Mile 4: 8:43
  • Mile 5: 8:30

Good times!

059

5) Climbing the Cape May Lighthouse

Surprisingly I’d never done this before in all my years visiting Cape May!

081

068

At the top — it was WINDY up there!

073

070

Very cool. I love lighthouses 🙂

080

A big thank you to Turner and her family for such an amazing weekend! It was great seeing you guys 🙂

I’m back in DC now but leaving again tomorrow morning with Matt to head to our friend Tim and Lindsey’s lake house! If you’re new to the blog — I promise I’m not always on vacation, heh. One more week of freedom then it’s back to crazy busy grad school life! Although, I think I should probably just become a professional vacation-er instead. 😉 I could definitely get used to this!

Ta-ta for now, friends!

Such a fun weekend! You can join the Turner family any time! Sorry you hit such horrible traffic coming home. I left this morning and it poured buckets the entire way. Sigh.

Bust! The really lame thing is that there wasn't even really any traffic - it was just that 2 roads were massively flooded so we had to go like 5 mph to cross that area, which backed everyone way up. And there was an accident just over the memorial bridge, too. Gah! Miss you :)

I grew up in Philadelphia and spent my summers visiting the Jersey Shore. I gets such a bad awful terrible reputation! Cape May was always my favorite place. It sort of reminds me of South Carolina!

Isn't Cape May pretty. I love it when they restore old buildings. Unfortunately, in Atlanta, they like to tear down the past. Unfortunately, they torn down some beautiful old homes to make way for concrete and steel. I am so glad you are having such a great time on your vacation. It won't be long before you are done with your courses.

I enjoyed pets and ear scratching. As always, the Turners enjoyed your company. John and Janice went to Bella Vida for lunch today, and it was good. They don't allow dogs, but they'll take you next time!

So I totally was on vacation last weekend with my family in Cape May. We ventured to Bliss every night for ice cream, and on our last night getting ice cream, I totally walked right by you. A little shocked to see someone I follow online walk past me. And of course I was too shy to say hello. I just nearly averted my father in law interrupting your dinner to point out that I follow you blog. I'm such a dork. haha. Looks like you had a great time in Cape May as we did!!
