Hi guys! Matt is off at day 2 of his return to work and I’m holed up in my office while my mother-in-law hangs out with Riese. It’s so helpful to have her here during this transition and before our nanny starts next week! She also made us dinner last night, which was awesome – she used a sheet pan recipe for Mini Meatloaves with Potatoes, Leeks, and Brussels Sprouts from Southern Living. It was delicious – I love meatloaf and hadn’t had it in AGES! I could get used to having a live-in chef, too… 😉

The two of us had fun picking out recipes for the week on Sunday afternoon while flipping through magazines on the deck. I had a huge pile of magazines I hadn’t read that arrived since Riese was born – fun to finally check them out! I especially love the Food & Nutrition Magazine (for dietitians, but you can subscribe if you’re not an RD, too).

I was feeling inspired after reading about so much good food so I decided to throw together something to nosh on for breakfast this week! I was originally going to make my Make-Ahead Veggie Egg Sandwiches, but we didn’t have enough eggs for it, so I winged it and threw together a random frittata on the stove instead.

I sauteed some frozen veggies (shitake mushrooms, peppers, and peas) in some salt, pepper, and truffle oil (a Christmas gift – sooooo good) to start, and once they were soft I poured in the whisked eggs.

I cooked it with the lid on over medium/medium low heat until it was mostly set, and then threw a huge handful of grated parmesan cheese on top for good measure. 🙂 Easy and delicious!

In other news, I made it out for my fitness class of the week this morning! (More on my postpartum fitness journey so far and plans for ramping back up fitness in these two posts: Tips for Re-Starting Fitness post & Getting Back into Fitness After Pregnancy.) I was craving some movement – it’s hard to figure out the morning feeding logistics/timing with Riese (and to say goodbye to her when she’s all sleepy and cuddly), but it felt good to have some time for socializing and a nice sweat. 🙂

It was a great workout – more cardio-heavy than usual so I was really glad I wasn’t pregnant anymore because it would have required a lot of modifications! (Usually those classes are more strength-heavy, which was easier to modify with heaviness of weights and speed.) Also, the Nike Power Legend Women’s Training Tight that I’m wearing in the photo above is on flash sale today only, FYI – this pattern is unfortunately sold out, but here is another really fun pattern! My tank, the Nike Dri-Fit Women’s Training Tank, is also on flash sale today. I’m loving both items – the pants stay put SO well and I love the high waist (they don’t fold over when I bend like some high waist pants do, and they don’t fall down at all) and the tank is really comfy and versatile. My shoes are not on sale but I still love them – such great grip for studio workouts! They are the Nike Women’s Metcon 4 Selfie Shoe (more colors here).

The workout date was with my friend Chelsea (we missed our buddy Kathleen – she’s sick), and we went back to Definitions in DC, which was the final workout class I did while pregnant – we went there a few days before Riese was born. Here’s a flashback from that day – we did the same pose for today’s photo just for fun! 🙂

When I got home I leisurely enjoyed some of the frittata I made over the weekend to refuel. And by leisurely enjoyed, I mean I shoved a piece of it into my mouth cold, right out of the fridge, because Riese was hungry and very vocal in letting me know it was time to eat. 😉 Ah, mom life! I did get to leisurely enjoy a homemade latte while feeding her, though – at least that I could have with one hand! I went back for more frittata, some toast with nut butter, and some strawberries after she was fed. I forgot to get a photo but it was yummy!

It was rainy and dreary out this morning, but the sun is peaking out now so I think it’s going to be time to take a walking break soon after feeding Riese again. I had a nice walk yesterday with my mother-in-law, and Riese in tow in the Boba 4G Carrier… the little lady sure does love walks – she always falls right to sleep!

Have a nice day, guys!

Right?! I mean, I had a super warm baby on me and I started the walk with a jacket but lost it as I heated up on the hills... but still. It was pretty awesome!

Do you ever wish that you slowed it down a bit right in the beginning of your time with Riese to just stay home alone with her, and have special 1-1 time? It seems like you have either had someone there at all times, or someone watching her so you could go have time to yourself. From a reader's perspective, I'm just seeing how your life seems to not have really changed at all in regards to pace, activities, etc. It is so true that babies don't keep, I just would hate for you to look back on this time and wish you did it differently. Before anyone says it, this is not mom shaming, trolling, or an intent to be mean spirited. Just a legitimate comment / question.

I think it seems like that from the outside because I'm writing about the stuff I'm doing vs. the times I'm NOT doing. I have had plenty of one-on-one time with her and I will continue to do so and cherish it. <3 Breastfeeding alone means I spend 20 solo hours with her per week (it used to be more like 30 when she was first born and eating more often). Thank you though!

Way to go getting back to classes! Hope Matt is readjusting ok to being back to work. It's fantastic you have Mrs Mauney there for this week! :) I'm sure Riese is loving having some precious grandma time with her further away grandma! Seems like you are balancing everything amazingly well!
