Hey guys – happy Friday! Before I get into today’s content, a heads up that the Winter Shape Up week 3 meal plan is now live so you guys can get your shop on this weekend. Click here to see it! 🙂 And in the meantime, don’t forget to comment on the week 2 meal plan page to enter to win a prize from the week 2 sponsor! You have until Sunday to comment over there, and I’ll draw the winner on Monday. 🙂

And now – let’s close out this week, shall we? It’s been a strange one weather-wise. On Tuesday and Wednesday, I was rocking sun dresses and jean jackets and having iced lattes:

And then by yesterday it was snowing and the windchill temperature was in the teens. Totally normal…

Lucky for me my workout schedule worked out well for the weather, though! After Tuesday’s fabulous outdoor track workout in great weather, Thursday morning I had plans to go inside for my speed workout – to OrangeTheory in Clarendon! Awesome since it was crazy windy and snowing/raining outside – gross.

The studio manager emailed Chelsea about coming out to try a class and she asked them if it was cool if I came along too, because workouts are way more fun with buddies! 🙂 Yay! Thanks Chelsea!

OrangeTheory is a heart-rate based high intensity interval training workout. You spend the hour long class alternating between the treadmill, a rowing machine, and boot camp type strength moves on the floor. In case you couldn’t tell by that description, this is a serious, sweaty workout. You feel so accomplished when you finish!

There are screens above the treadmills with everyone’s heart rate information displayed, which was really motivating – it definitely encouraged me to try to push myself! I liked that we were just competing with ourselves, though, and not others. 🙂 Also, everyone of all abilities got a great workout since it’s effort/heart rate based – they have options for walkers, joggers, and runners.

We loved the class and gave it two enthusiastic thumbs up. I especially liked the rap music playing while we were on the treadmills – my favorite workout music! 🙂 Love that they send you your heart rate stats after class, too.

I think the only bit of constructive feedback we had was it would be nice to have a second instructor going around and adjusting/correcting form in the strength/weights section of the class. It’s so easy to fall into bad form when you’re tired and eventually end up injuring yourself, you know? Plus, if you are newer to fitness, it would be good to have more hands on help to make sure you’re doing everything right.

Anyway – thanks again for having us OrangeTheory! Please get on ClassPass?? 🙂

As for other fitness this week, I enjoyed two yoga class! One was at CorePower in Georgetown with Chelsea, and the other was at my beloved Edge Yoga in Arlington with my girl Sokphal! I hadn’t been to Edge in too long – I usually go there on the weekends but I’ve been gone every weekend lately, and I missed it! We did an evening class – it’s always so cozy in there at night. 🙂

After yoga we grabbed a low key dinner at Sweet Leaf nearby so we could catch up. 🙂 I was in the mood for something lighter and refreshing so I went with a big salad – greens, quinoa, chicken, feta cheese, and tons of veggies!

One other food highlight from this week: my lunch plate from Glen’s Garden Market after teaching English on Wednesday! So obsessed with Glen’s. 🙂 I got the chicken salad, string beans, beets, mashed sweet potato, and a side of their kale apple salad. So pretty and colorful!

And now, I am throwing a few more things in my suitcase and heading to the airport, because I’m off to my college friend Sarah’s bachelorette party this weekend in Charleston, SC! I’m so excited – Matt and I were in Charleston around this time last year (remember? we ran the Charleston Half Marathon last January!) and it’s such a cool city – I can’t wait to spend another weekend there! The weather looks amaaaazing too – sunny and in the 70’s. Yes, please!!

Have a fabulous weekend guys and I’ll be back with a Charleston bachelorette weekend adventures recap here on Monday! (Well, a PG version anyway – heh.) And in the meantime, see what I’m up to on Instagram, as always. 🙂

What fun workouts did you do this week?

Orangetheory looks intimidating to me but I just saw that a location opened up nearby, I may have to try it!

I do Orangetheory a couple of days a week, and I love it as well! It is a pricey workout, but always gets you sweating -- ClassPass would be nice! I am always doing a 30-day yoga challenge at my home studio. Today is day 22, and I feel amazing and thankful I signed up!

Hi Anne! Thanks for sharing the Orange Theory, will keep that in mind when working out next time! Language teaching must be fun btw, I used to teach Chinese at a university and it's a great way to teach and learn different cultures.
