Hi friends! First things first – the Winter Shape Up week 1 meal plan is now live! Head on over to the main Winter Shape Up page for more info and for a link to the first meal plan, which includes regular, vegan, and gluten free options as well as shopping lists. The Winter Shape Up is a totally free and fun 4 week healthy living challenge that encourages getting healthy in a mindful and positive way, without the restriction or rigidity that challenges like this often entail. I hope you’ll join me and my friend Gina, who I am co-hosting the challenge with! She’s a trainer and will be sharing fun workouts for you guys to try; I’ll be sharing all the nutrition content. 🙂

In other news, the snow has officially started to fall here in the DC area! Matt and I are both hunkered down working from home today, and have stocked up on the essentials like food, toilet paper… and beer, Prosecco, and kombucha. Priorities. 😉

I have a feeling that this little guy I met at the metro yesterday is about to have a LOT of big friends…

dc snow

Since I know it will be really hard to get out for runs for the next few days with all the snow, I took myself out for a little jaunt this morning before starting work. It was cold and gray and really quiet – everyone was working from home today, I think!

I wasn’t feeling anything intense – just wanted to get a little fresh air – so I did a 30 minute run/walk. It was really nice – so peaceful out there and it felt good to get out before being on lockdown!

Here’s the attractive combination I was rocking to keep me warm. Thank you to the blog reader Jill who recommended this Buff headwear – so awesome for keeping the neck/face warm and you can wear it as a hat if you want, too!

And now, time to get some serious work done before playing in the snow! I had some AnneTheRD meetings this morning, but my afternoon meetings were all cancelled so I’m planning to hunker down and knock some things off my to do list. Rachael, Alex, and I are making great progress with our Intuitive Eating program development – I have a lot of writing to do for that today!

Stay warm out there, my friends! And if you want something hot/delicious to make this cold weekend, here are some old faves to try:

  • Veggie-tastic Minestrone Soup
  • Sweet Potato Lentil Chili
  • Creamy Mexican Chicken Chili Soup
  • Butternut Squash & Turkey Chili
Who else is bracing for lots of snow this weekend? I wish I owned snow shoes!
What’s your favorite super cold weather recipe? Links welcome!

Up in RI! Not a lot of snow predicted for us, it looks like you guys are/were hit by the most of it. I was supposed to go to NJ and NY this weekend but the storms messed up those plans heh. We're making chili for now!

I made your Creamy Mexican Chicken Chili Soup this week. So easy and so good! Except I subbed a can of diced jalapeños for one can of the diced chilies because my husband loves spicy food. It ended up being a little hot for me but he's been eating the leftovers all week. No snow forecast for northern Colorado this week. Thank goodness-I'm tired of snow!

No snow for us this weekend. We had two snowstorms/freezing drizzle earlier this week. I'm done.

I live in DC, too, and wanted to squeeze in a run before Snowzilla arrived. I live in the South East and ran toward Capitol Hill; it was packed with people! Stay safe, be warm and hopefully you don't get a bad case of cabin fever.

http://www.mnn.com/food/recipes/photos/5-mediterranean-comfort-food-recipes/chicken-with-orzo-pasta Amazing. This is our favorite comfort food and I make it for friends all the time. We cut the red pepper down to half a teaspoon and it still has a bite. I also sub whole wheat orzo and chicken broth for veggie (although either one tastes great). Stay warm!

We're getting hit with the storm as well! I'm cool with it as long as we keep our power. :) I hope that you're able to make it to Gretchen's wedding!!

NYC is coming to a standstill with the subways soon to close down due to the snowfall/blizzard conditions. High winds and snow drifts up to six feet. We're not supposed to see the snow stop until midnight tonight with total accumulations of over 2 1/2 feet projected..... Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to your Intuitive Eating collaboration. IE is hard, but the payoff in terms of freedom from food and body image obsession is so big! What form will your collaboration take? A webinar, new website, or whatever? (And I hope the cost won't be prohibitive.) Perhaps you can include some free resources for those of us on fixed budgets. In any case, thank you for all you do.
