Hello friends! Thank you for all your thoughtful comments on my last post about the new DC program that prescribes fruit and vegetables — I really enjoyed the discussion! Feel free to keep it going — and be sure to check out the post and the comments if you missed it!

Matt and I had such a fun weekend — we spent it at our friends Tim and Lindsey’s lake house!

Remember Tim and Lindsey? They’re our friends from Chapel Hill — seeing them made me miss our life there! They live in our old neighborhood — apparently it is doing well but not quite as awesome without us. 😉

Tim’s parents own this lake house (we came last summer, too — so fun) and they head here a lot on the weekends in summer. This weekend, they invited us and a few of their friends from college to join them!

IMG_2600

Dan, in the blue shirt near the right of the photo, is actually the reason that we know Tim and Lindsey — my parents and his parents are good friends and lived in the same neighborhood while we were in early college, so Dan and I and a group of others our age used to hang out together over Christmas breaks when we were all home from school. Dan is good friends with Tim from college, so Dan’s mom emailed me back when she found out from my mom that we were moving to Chapel Hill, putting me in touch with Tim and Lindsey!

Dan and I hadn’t seen each other since we were like 19, so it was fun to catch up. 🙂 When Matt and I arrived on Saturday, a bunch of us headed right out onto the boat for some tubing!

IMG_2576

Dan and I ended up having a throw down — don’t worry, I won. 😉

IMG_2577

IMG_2581

Although I did fall off once! It was a seriously epic wipeout — I basically surfed on the water for like 30 seconds (and nearly lost my swimsuit bottom) before falling in because we were going so fast!

IMG_2584

Oh, tubing. You are so fun. 🙂

The rest of the afternoon was spent chilling in the water on various flotation devices while enjoying some beer from the floating cooler. Pretty sweet way to spend a Saturday.

By around 6, we all came in and got cleaned up. Time to continue happy hour!

IMG_2593

Oh, how I love this place.

IMG_2598

The boys were in charge of making dinner on Saturday night and cooked up a really delicious meal for everyone.

IMG_2601

We had tuna steaks seared on the grill, a salad with goat cheese, candied walnuts, and cranberries, and a baked gnocchi and cheese dish — SO good.

IMG_2602

My compliments to the chefs. 🙂 The group of us spent the rest of the night playing various board games/trivia. Fun night!

This morning, we all had a lazy start, enjoyed some breakfast, Matt and I went out for a short 2 mile run before deciding it was way too hot to go farther, and then everyone headed down to the lake for more fun.

IMG_2617

First up — a boat ride! Remember Hayes, Tim and Lindsey’s son? I can’t believe it but he’s 6 months old now! I remember holding him a couple days after he was born. How times flies. Here he is eating his life vest. Apparently it was delicious.

IMG_2605

And here he is in the dining room earlier in the day. He’s still as adorable as ever! It’s fun because he’s much more engaged now and will give you the cutest little smiles. He has HUGE blue eyes and big, thick eyelashes, too. This kid’s definitely going to be a ladies man in the future. 😉

IMG_2603

Anyway, back to the boat ride. Isn’t this place stunning? I love the combination of mountains and water.

IMG_2607

IMG_2611

Apparently boat rides make babies reeeeeally sleepy. 🙂 Hayes was completely passed out by the time we came back!

IMG_2608

We decided to head back out on the boat for a little skiing. Lindsey went first — she’s a serious pro.

IMG_2610

And I decided to try wake boarding for the first time! After numerous face plants/failed attempts while being towed by the boat, we switched to the jet ski — it’s a little easier for beginners since you can start slightly more slowly. After a few more tries, I made it up!

IMG_2614

Last year, I tried water skiing for the first time here at the lake; I found wake boarding to be a little bit easier — and less scary when you wipe out, too. I also think it’s easier once you’re standing to keep it going!

IMG_2618

Weeeeee!

IMG_2619

What a fun weekend — between this and the beach in the Outer Banks a week ago, we have been so spoiled lately! Thanks again to Tim and Lindsey for having us. We miss you guys! 🙂

Have you ever tried wake boarding or water skiing? How’d it go? If you’ve tried both, which did you find easier?

I remember attempting to water ski when I was about 12...I was awful at it! Pretty sure I didn't get to a full standing position once. If wakeboarding is easier, maybe I'll give it a try sometime!

I grew up going to Smith Mountain Lake (is that what lake you're at? If not, it looks very much like it!), I find water skiing WAAYY easier! It's funny how different things are easier for different people!

Ah wakeboarding is awesome! I've never water skiied, but wakeboarding is so fun once you get the hang of it - I was out on the water as well wakeboarding this weekend! (only downside is it can leave you quite sore sometimes!)

Omg yes - my back and shoulders are definitely sore today! And my right hip is a bit sore since that was the leg I had in back!

Looks like you had an awesome day--so jealous that you got to spend it on a lake! I've never tried wakeboarding or water skiing--I was always afraid I would look like a total goof. :(

Don't ever not do something because you're scared of looking silly! That's part of the fun if you make it that way. :) It took me like 7 or 8 back-to-back faceplants/epic wipeouts before I was able to stand up - just gotta be okay with laughing at yourself! Everyone looks silly when they try something new for the first time. :)

My family has a lake house and goes to it every summer. One time we took my grandpa with us and he tried to water ski. We ended up in the emergency room though! It tore off the tip of his finger! It was very traumatic. I was only 6 at the time and have made a vow to never water ski because of that experience. Tubing on the other hand...I can do that! :)

What a fun weekend! I love that picture of the reflection in the water, so neat! I've been water skiing a few times and I could get up for a while, but I wasn't very good. Then I'd be so sore the next day haha

I miss wakeboarding! :( It took me about 3 trips on the boat to finally figure it out and from that moment I've got up every time! I've realized that alcohol makes me wake board better. I do not think about falling. Awesome you got up first trip!!

I love to waterski. Haven't done it in a while now but it is just the best feeling gliding through the water! And a good relax sesh in the hammock is pretty good too :)
