North Carolina Weekend Adventures

Hello, my friends! As you know, Matt and I were in North Carolina this weekend for my grad school friend Jill’s wedding. It was so great to be back – it still feels like home there. If you’re new to the blog, I graduated with my Masters of Public Health in Nutrition from UNC Chapel Hill in December. Matt and I lived in the area for 2 years and while there, I made an incredible group of friends. Obviously I really love D.C., but I’ll always have a special spot in my heart for my time at UNC and in Chapel Hill. I really miss it there! Life just felt a little slower, a little simpler, and a little friendlier there.

We were hoping to make it in time for Fridays on the Front Porch at the Carolina Inn (my favorite thing ever), but sadly traffic was so bad it took us hours longer than usual to get down there on Friday. Bummer! Instead, we had a quick pizza dinner at Panzanella in Carrboro with our friend Matt. Love that restaurant!

On Saturday morning, I returned to my most favorite yoga studio ever: Franklin Street Yoga!

Lori, the owner and my favorite instructor, was teaching a 9 a.m. hour and a half vinyasa class and it was as good as I remembered. They’re in a new location now – I liked the new space, once I found it! (Totally showed up at the old spot and had to call them like – um, where are you?) Apparently they are starting up a Thursday night run club – I would have been all over that when I lived there! :)

From there, it was off to brunch with the grad school ladies at Foster’s Market, another favorite in the area. We were all too busy catching up to get a group photo, but I enjoyed this beautiful latte and the breakfast burrito (eggs, black beans, avocado, cheese, potatoes, salsa, happiness):

After brunch we all headed to Raleigh for the wedding!

The ladies and I all got the memo on the bright colors, apparently. :) I was rocking a new dress from South Moon Under!

I missed these ladies. <3

Congratulations again to Jill & Danny!

On Sunday morning, Matt, my friend Lauren, and I all went on a run around Raleigh before heading out. 6 miles later and we were sweaty and rejuvenated. :)

My running buddy Karen lent me her Garmin Forerunner 110 for the weekend so I could try it out. I liked it but I still like my old garmin watch (the Forerunner 305) better – I missed the big screen and all the different stats on one page during the run! But it was nice to be wearing a much daintier sized watch. :)

Our final stop on our NC weekend adventures was Jessee’s Coffee & Bar in Carrboro, one of my very favorites in the area.

Old photo – sadly the sky was gray and rainy, not Carolina blue, this weekend!

Matt and I met our friends Tim & Lindsey and Matt & Sarah, plus their adorable toddlers, there for brunch. Again – we were too busy chatting to get a group picture – but it was great to see them!

I got my standard favorite – the open faced biscuit sandwich (eggs, tomato, roasted turkey, cheese on a biscuit). It’s amazing. I would seriously consider moving back just for this sandwich…

Such a fun weekend! Matt and I arrived back in DC last night and now it’s back to the daily grind. I hope you all had a nice weekend, too! Any great runs/adventures to report? Do share! :)

p.s. Thank you for the fun feedback regarding what to keep from my first Stitch Fix shipment! I ended up giving Matt the final call and he voted I keep the jeans but send back the shirt – it was “too flowy” according to him. Fair enough! :)

p.p.s. I updated my Mosaic District post with the giveaway winners – check and see if you are one of them! Thanks to all who entered!

Love the dress! The blue really suits you!

  3. 3

I love, love, love your dress. Glad you had a great trip back!

  4. 4

The gorgeous views you have on your DC runs inspired me to run in Colonial Williamsburg last week and yesterday, so I enjoyed some nice running scenery myself over the weekend!

  5. 6

Oh how fun! I’ve never been to NC but have heard how beautiful it is — and now I must go for all this yummy food and yoga awesomeness! Glad you had a great weekend.

  6. 7

What a fun weekend! I love catching up with college friends!

  7. 8

Sounds like fun! I spent the weekend in the city where I went to undergrad, so it was similar to yours. Lots of time spent with friends and visiting my old favorite places.

  8. 9

I love your bright blue dress – so flattering on you :)

Gorgeous dress! I was in Ocean City, NJ for my girlfriend’s bachelorette weekend. I managed to get in a 4 mile run on the boardwalk with one of the girls and then taught the whole group an hour long yoga class on Saturday morning. So much fun!

I love you dress!! :) and your friend looked amazing, I bet it was an awesome night! I also give you extra credit points for getting up and running after a friends wedding! I would have been dying ha-ha.

  11. 14

I just attended a friend’s wedding a few weeks ago, and we were encouraged to wear bright colours on our invite – such a great idea!

  12. 15

I love all the bright dresses! You ladies all look gorgeous! FYI, that breakfast burrito looks to die for!

  13. 16

Gorgeous blue dress!!! That breakfast burrito looks amazing. Glad you had a great time!

  14. 17

It’s always fun to return to a place you used to live and re-connect with your favorite places, people, and foods! I just did that a few weeks ago and had a blast!

  15. 18

That brunch wrap and coffee look amazing!! What a great weekend :)

Neat to be back in the Tarheel State! Sounds like a great weekend!

I had the same Garmin as your old one, and it died this spring. I too did not want a smaller screen. I got the Forerunner 310XT and I love it. Same big screen, great for swimming and biking too.

  18. 21

Ooh that food looks so good!
I biked down to Alexandria from Bethesda on Saturday and the weather was gorgeous! On Sunday, I pounded out 16 miles for my long run. Whew.

People are so much friendlier in NC. I really miss it (I went to Duke). I was there 4 years for graduate school and I totally agree. The life was just slower and more relaxed. Way less traffic too! Its been hard for me to get used to the rudeness of D.C.

Favorite places in NC that I miss:

    Raleigh farmers market
    Chai’s Noodles in Durham
    Revolution Restaurant (Durham)
    Vimala’s Curryblossom in Chapel Hill

    and so much more. *tear!*

  20. 25

I love the color of your dress at the wedding. Sounds like it was a busy weekend but a fun one.

  21. 26

Yay for fun weekend adventures with old friends… always nice to go back to somewhere you have so many great memories.

  22. 27

That dress looks gorgeous on you!

  23. 28

That dress is amazing!! I really love NC too. We have friends in Charlotte and I was hooked after one visit!
