Sweating Buckets

Hi friends! I’m sweating buckets here in DC – it’s so much hotter/more humid here than it was at the beach last week! Gross. I met my track group this morning at Yorktown High School and we all said it felt kind of like we were swimming. Hello, 1000% humidity, it’s not nice to see you.

P7060020

This morning’s workout was mile repeats, and the coaches had me do three of them. I wasn’t feeling my speediest today but still ended up having some good splits. The average pace on my watch surprised me, considering how rough I felt – guess I was going pretty fast after all!

If you’re wondering why I’m wearing that blue Brooks tank top (that they gifted me earlier this summer) in basically every running photo recently, it’s because it’s amazing and super lightweight. I tried to buy a couple more on their website but they are sold out in my size. Sadness! I want it in every color!

Anyway – I’m hoping that Maine next weekend for the 10k (the Beach to Beacon 10k with Cabot as part of the Cabot Fit Team) is niiiiiice and cold on race day. 🙂

As for yesterday’s workout, I decided to kick off the workweek with a tough one! I hit up the 7 a.m. Urban Athletic Club (<—coupon code in that post) Urban Athlete class. I hadn’t been in awhile between vacation last week and timing not working out, so it was nice to get back to it!

Awesome and varied workout, as always. My arms are a bit sore today – we did a lot of upper body strength in addition to the usual squats, lunges, etc!

I’ve got a busy day ahead – a few AnneTheRD clients this afternoon, plus a fair amount of blog work to get done. I spent most of yesterday (in addition to catching up on emails) working on blog-related tasks and recipe development – this smoothie was awesome! I’ll be sharing the recipe soon. 🙂

Have a great day, everyone!

Is it really hot where you live right now, too?

The humidity nearly killed me on Saturday. It makes all other days feel heavenly though!

This is true - fall might not be quite as amazing if we hadn't suffered through this first, huh?!

There was a heat advisory when I ran the RnR Half here in Chicago over the weekend, but it's actually not too bad here now. I think summer has finally arrived although it's super late. I saw a bunch of those Brooks tops during the race and I was surprised at how thin and light they looked. Now I'm sad that they are sold out!

Riding in Central Park this morning was SO much nicer than running. Tomorow's mornin's repeats will NOT be fun!!

It is so humid and muggy here! I'm from New England, but now live in SoCal. I moved away from the mugginess and it followed me :/ It also has been suuuuper hot, which normally i'm okay with. I want to get a bunch of those tanks! I've seen them everywhere and they look so comfortable.

Do you get bored running mile repeats around the track? I feel like it wouldn't be too bad for shorter distances like 400's, etc. but I think I'd be bored doing a mile non-stop on a track.

It's not too bad since I have my group there - we chat between miles, and it gives me people to chase which helps distract me! Also, our coaches call out our splits as we pass, so that helps with staying distracted and splitting it up kind of, too.

It was hot even in Seattle this weekend - it got up to the mid-90s on Sunday! Thankfully it's cooling down but this has been a brutal summer everywhere it seems.

I'm in Texas and we will be in the 100s all week! It has made outside workouts nearly impossible for me (mainly because the oppressive heat turns me into a big wuss!). My husband and I are going on vacation to Seattle in Sept and can't wait for the cooler weather (it stays in the 90s in TX until late Oct/Nov).

Wanna talk humidity? Girl. I live in Tampa, FL where, although it's been super rainy and overcast most days, and the official temp has been sitting around 86deg, the "real feel" temp has been a steady 102deg. Yeah. Gross! I went for a run Saturday night (started at 7:40pm, ended just before dark around 8:45) and I looked like I had just gotten out of the pool. I like to play a game with my boyfriend after I shower post-run; it's called, "Did I wash my hair, or is it still wet from sweat?" Always the latter.

Way to keep your pace up in the heat!! I was out running in Arlington this AM as well -- hill repeats in July are not my favorite activity. Couldn't get to my cold shower fast enough.

I live in Lafayette, LA (about an hour from the coast). It's not too bad right now (88) because we just had an afternoon shower. The past few weeks we've had "feels like" temperatures between 100 and 105! Add in the humidity, and the sweating is insane! I've been getting my runs in around sunrise to avoid the worst of it.

We've had some hot weather this summer, though thankfully we don't have much humidity here. It's a dry heat. Good luck on the 10K!

I live in San Francisco, and it's cool today here! Probably mid 60s = amazing. But Sunday it reached 80, and it was miserable! The city has basically no air conditioning, so when it gets hot, there's nowhere to escape to! Our apartment gets stuffy, my office gets stuffy, the buses get extra stuffy. Whenever I wish we had warmer weather here, I try to remember those miserable hot days we do get :) I grew up in Texas so I definitely know hot weather! But there you could always go inside. In fact, walking into an air conditioned space after being outside in the summer was one of my favorite things. SO refreshing.

Having people to meet is key! Either a group and coaches that tell me what to do, or a friend to run with so I don't bail on myself. :)

Late to reply but LOVE that tank top and wondering on the sizing as the reviews on REI site say this tank runs big. Did you size down on this one compared to other Brooks tops? Thx! And way to go on such an awesome pace in the DC humidity.
