Morning friends! It’s a rainy day in the DC area – perfect for oatmeal. Excuse the messy bowl – just keepin’ it real over here.

I made one of my standard fave combos – my Perfect Microwave Banana Oatmeal with frozen wild blueberries stirred in, topped with cottage cheese, walnuts, and cinnamon! Great mix of protein (cottage cheese + milk), healthy fat (walnuts), fiber (oats, banana, wild blueberries), and deliciousness (all of the above).

A rainy morning was also perfect for Urban Athletic Club via ClassPass! My friend Kathleen and I hit up Teisha’s 7 a.m. class. Her classes are awesome – so hard and athletic – lots of great drills that complement running and other sports, which makes sense since she’s a former D1 and professional basketball player!

Here I am working on my assisted pull up after class – we did this move as one of the interval stations. My foot is in a band to make it easier to do more reps. 🙂

As for yesterday’s workout, it was all about the running! My friend Karen and I met up for a run and it was so great to see her as always. Our runs together are kind of like therapy or mastermind sessions – so good to talk things out and the miles fly by! <3

We ended up crushing 5.26 miles at a good clip.

We did a little cool down walk on the Capital Crescent trail afterward because we weren’t quite ready to say goodbye yet, and we saw a TON of deer! Cool. This one scared me – I didn’t see it til we were right next to it!

To round out this random post, here’s what I had for lunch yesterday. It’s one of my favorite combos and I recommend you try it immediately if you haven’t yet. Makes a great packed lunch, too!

Just mash canned tuna with half a ripe avocado and a couple squirts of dijon mustard and you have yourself an excellent tuna salad. It’s great with crackers, in a wrap or pita, atop salad, or as a sandwich! I threw mine on sprouted grain bread with some baby kale for a little extra green. Yum! Plus some unpictured carrots and a kiwi on the side.

And now, back to work. Have a fabulous day, my friends!

What’s your favorite sandwich? Mine is definitely tuna – I’ve always loved it, even when I was little! Other tuna salad combos I love: tuna + greek yogurt + dijon mustard, and tuna + hummus. Here’s another variation with some fun additions: healthy tuna salad.

I make the tuna, avocado, Dijon combination quite often. Sometimes I add a spoonful of hummus instead of mustard or add other spices like garlic or cajun and it is delicious. I also love it with a fat slice of tomato and spinach. Love great girl time during a run, too!!!

I love salmon salad...canned wild salmon, capers, diced avocado and some homemade mayo, fresh dill, salt and black pepper! Some toasted chopped pecans and walnuts in the mix for a final crunch!

My favorite sandwich is a half smashed avocado with a squeeze of lemon juice, handful of chopped mint and some slices of cucumber.

Hi Anne, Quick question, what brand of cottage cheese do you prefer? Is there a grass-fed variety available?

This is my old one! It's the Garmin 910xt -- was a Christmas gift a couple years ago. Trying to decide which one I like better - this one, or the one with the heart rate monitor I've been wearing lately that I received as part of my ClassPass runner partnership!

i'm very curious why you'd prefer the one sans heart monitor!

Well, this one has a heart rate monitor, but you have to use a strap, which I never use, so the new watch wins on that front. Things I like better about the 910xt, though, are that it is fully waterproof - you can swim with it -- and also that you can have 4 different stats showing on the main screen. Scrolling through on the new one bugs me since I can't see both current pace and average pace on the home screen. Bottom line though is that both are awesome! I've basically just been using whichever one is charged when I'm running out the door. :)

Hi Anne! That sounds delicious. I read an article on the NY Times about the best way to make a sandwich and as pretentious as I thought it was, it was really helpful. It talked about the best components - something fatty, something crisp, something tart. I make sure to incorporate different textures into my sandwiches. Pickles one day and then maybe just some dijon and lettuce the next. That bread looks delicious though! What kind is that?

That sounds like great advice! Totally agree about different textures -- especially something crisp/crunchy is always really good in salads. It's Ezekiel/Food for Life bread!
