Hey friends! I hope you had a great weekend – and I hope those of you who ran the Rock ‘n’ Roll DC Half or Full Marathon had a great race! I was sad to miss the half marathon for the first time since 2012 but I think I made the right call to skip it this year. (I still needed a little more time after being burned out following the Marine Corps Marathon a few months ago!) Plus, now I’m even more excited for the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler (<- last year’s recap) in 3 weeks!

On Friday night, Matt and I had a cozy night in – we had leftover Slow Cooker Chicken Tikka Masala and got a good night’s sleep so we’d be ready for our long run date on Saturday!

four mile run trail

We headed out around 10:30; since the race was still going on in the city, we stuck to Arlington for the run. We had 8 miles on the agenda and did a fun point-to-point (where you start and end at separate places).

Also – I was thrilled to find that the water fountains in Arlington are still on (in DC, they are all off). Hooray! We stopped a few times for water and I also ate a few dried tart cherries as fuel. I didn’t need much for an 8 miler but that little bit made a difference! (see also: How to Fuel a Long Run)

We had a nice run – it was cold but beautifully sunny, and we had the wind at our backs most of the time, too. It also helped that the run was net downhill. 😉

8+ miles, check!

We finished the run in Crystal City and did a short walk and stretch before warming up in a Starbucks – and getting some treats to re-fuel, too! We both had whole milk lattes and then shared some fun pastries – a donut and a blueberry scone. (Yes, Matt is still doing the mostly gluten free thing, but when there are times he really wants something, he goes for it!)

post-run refuel

We hopped in a Lyft to get home, and then after showering we had the protein portion of our re-fuel – some bacon and eggs. 🙂

On Saturday night, we went to my college friend Sarah’s wedding at the gorgeous Meridian House in DC! It was black tie so we got especially dolled up for it – fun!

My dress is from Macy’s – my mom and I were shopping there a few months ago and I tried on some of the formal dresses just for fun, and we really loved this one! Perfect since I had this wedding coming up so soon. I loved the panel of sequins on the front and back – here’s a photo of the back in better lighting!

The wedding was gorgeous – I didn’t get any other photos so you’ll have to take my word for it. 🙂 Another huge congratulations to Sarah and Jochem – we’re so happy for you guys!

On Sunday, we slept in, did some stuff around the house, and then I treated myself to a yoga class at Edge Yoga later in the day. Always feels good to do yoga the day after a longer run!

As for last night, we had a fun dinner at a friend’s house! They made fajitas – delicious.

It was hard to get up this morning because it was so dark out (good ole daylight savings time), but Chelsea and I wanted to get in a workout before the big snowstorm apparently hits us later tonight, so we went to the 7 a.m. class at Urban Athletic Club. As always, a great workout! And now, I’m riding out my straight wedding hair (I got it done at a blow dry bar) for one more day. 😉

Before I go, one last reminder that I’m participating in a FREE live Q&A panel tomorrow (March 14) at 4 p.m. EST., during which fellow RDs and I will be sharing tips and lessons learned for growing our businesses, both in person and online.

live webinar

ALSO – as a follow up to the live panel, if you’re a fellow RD or health professional looking to grow your business, get more clients, or increase your visibility, there is a great 3 day workshop that will work you through how to stand out and attract clients as a nutrition professional in a crowded field. Not only does it sound excellent, but if you’re an RD, you will receive 4.5 CPEU hours for completing the workshop! Pretty sweet. 🙂 Act fast, though – there are ONLY 20 spots left and the workshop will not be offered again as far as I know. So if you want in, sign up today. You can secure your spot for only $1 (and pay the rest on a month by month payment plan).

Have a great day guys! I will leave you with this fun photo of Queen Zara, reigning over her domain. 😉

If you ran RnR DC this weekend, how did it go?!

Who else is gearing up to potentially get a lot of snow tonight?

I ran the RnRDC this weekend and it was a gorgeous morning for it! I was a bit scared about the weather (having been training in 50-60 degree weather) but it was sunny and not too breezy. I even got a new PR! They did change the course a bit from previous years (no more Key Bridge) but other than that it was great (and the later start was a nice touch). This was my third time racing it and my favorite one so far! Starbucks after a run is the best! I've definitely used it to motivate myself to finish before. Your dress is gorgeous :)

Ha, that's awesome!! Missed you guys too! Looks like we won't be hitting the track tomorrow morning, either, given the snow situation... bummer!

MMM, I used to live right across the parking lot from a Starbucks and would always get a hot chocolate or latte after winter long runs, it was the best!

Did the half marathon - was 1 min 2 sec slower than getting a new PR! Bummer! That hill at 6 - 6.5 mi totally wiped me out, and I do the hills in Rock Creek all the time. It was really great running weather though - love to run in the COLD! Agree with the others that your dress is gorgeous!

The RnR Half was great, thanks again for recommending it. I'm so glad I ran it. That hill is a killer, but I ran the whole thing which I'm super proud of. Not my best time overall, but not my worst either! And the temperature turned out to be perfect for it. I'm looking forward to the Cherry Blossom 10-miler in a couple weeks too! Hope you're enjoying the snow today!
