Weekend Adventures

Hi friends! I know I already shared my biggest weekend adventure – running the Cherry Blossom 10(ish) Miler for the third time and setting a new PR (kind of – check out the post!), but wanted to share some other food and fitness fun from the weekend, too.

Since the weather was so gorgeous, I aimed to spend most of the weekend outside! On Saturday, I attended a cool press event co-hosted by District Drive and Down Dog Yoga, which began with an outdoor yoga class down on the National Mall.

It was a MADHOUSE down on the mall on Saturday due to the gorgeous weather and the cherry blossom festival, but I still enjoyed getting my zen on with some fellow fitness writers. The owner of Down Dog Yoga, Patty Ivey, led us in an hour long vinyasa flow class. Felt really nice to stretch out the day before my 10 miler, and the weather could not have been more perfect!

After yoga, we were treated to lunch down in Alexandria at Virtue Feed & Grain, which is one of my favorite spots. They brought out some asparagus and amazing bacon mac and cheese for us to start on – so good.

We had a set menu with a few options to choose from for our entrée; I went for the salmon burger with fries. The bun wasn’t that delicious/bringing much to the table, so I ditched it and instead enjoy the fries as my carb. 😉

As for dessert, we enjoyed banana bread pudding and fresh berries (isn’t the chocolate spoon they came with cool?). I ate about half of each of them, which was the perfect amount. Delicious! Had to carb load for Sunday’s race, right? 🙂

As for the rest of Saturday, I enjoyed relaxing, and that evening I met up with Matt for bowling! He was in grad school class all day on Saturday and one of his classmates organized a bowling night after they were done to raise money for charity. We had a lot of fun, even though I totally suck at bowling. 😉 Next time, must break 100!

Sunday was all about the great outdoors, too! After the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler I refueled with brunch with an old friend (at LPQ, obviously… yes, I’m obsessed):

And then on Sunday night Matt and I headed over to a friend’s place for a combination BBQ + Game of Thrones season premiere party. (So excited it’s back!!)

Yep, that’s a can of beans right on the grill. Keepin’ it classy.

Also, apparently I ate ALL the asparagus this weekend.

It’s rainy here in DC today so I’m looking at these sunny photos quite longingly. Come back, sun! 🙂

I’ll leave you with my latest wild blueberry blog guest post! This month, I’m sharing a recipe for a protein-packed wild blueberry recovery smoothie. It packs 28g of protein all from real food – no powders! I also share some information about why protein is so important post-run. Here’s the post, and the smoothie recipe: Power Up with this Protein-Packed Wild Blueberry Smoothie!

I’m working downtown from the UberOffices today. Better get back after it! Have a great day, my friends! I’ll be back tomorrow to share today’s easy packed lunch, for those looking for some new ideas. 🙂

p.s. For those of you that were interested in the recipes from the beer cooking demo I went to last week, I updated the blog recap post with a link to download a PDF with all the recipes. Enjoy!

What was the best thing you ate this weekend? Mine was probably those fries! Yep, I’m a dietitian and I love fries. Everything in moderation, my friends. 🙂

The best thing I ate this weekend was either a Blue Apron meal or the taco I had from Velvet Taco. Those things are amazing! Good call on the yoga before your race...I need to remember to do that!

properly made fries can be part of a well balanced meal- agreed ;) and that smoothie looks divine! Im checking that out now. You're PR is inspiring me to push even more, but for the Race for the Cure 5k in May, it's my "race-iversary" :)
