Weekend Adventures

Hi guys! Matt, Riese, and I had a fun weekend – the highlight of which was a family running + walking adventure yesterday!

Matt and I took Riese down to Old Town Alexandria in the late morning for a family run date. We were planning to put her in the stroller without the car seat, but when we arrived she was fast asleep so we ended up leaving her in the car seat. Also, don’t let the above photo fool you… Matt was the one actually pushing the stroller for the run. 😉 It worked out perfectly because it slowed him down to a more comfortable pace for me!

We decided to do 3 miles, so we ran 1.5 miles south along the Mt. Vernon Trail and 1.5 back. It was hot but beautiful – love those water views!

We can’t wait to do more stroller runs in the future – so fun to be able to run together as a family! When we got back to the car, we ditched the car seat and put Riese back in the actual stroller, and then walked to lunch! We hit up our usual fave Virtue, Feed, and Grain – nice because they have outdoor seating, so it didn’t matter that we were sweaty and that we had a potentially loud baby with us. This was our first time asking for a high chair at a restaurant – ahhh, she’s growing up so fast!

I was craving something refreshing and cool, so I went with their quinoa salad with seared salmon on top and it was REALLY good. Just what I wanted! They do a great salmon there – really nice sear.

After eating, we did a ton more walking! Despite her face in this photo, Riese loved it – she’s always happiest when outside, just like her mama.

As for food highlights this weekend, one night we had an easy throw together meal of roasted sweet potatoes, grilled sausage, and sauerkraut:

And last night we had my parents over for dinner and grilled up chicken, peaches, and corn to put atop herb-y salads.

This is a new blog recipe that I’ll be sharing tomorrow; it was so good when we first made it a few weeks ago we knew we wanted to make it again ASAP!

For dinner on Saturday, I was out and about – my high school friend Joy has been in town visiting and we had a girl’s night along with our friend Lara! This was such a treat – we went to Four Sisters Vietnamese restaurant in Mosaic District and shared a ton of stuff – and then hit up Dolcezza after for gelato. 🙂 These ladies make my heart happy – so good to catch up!

As for breakfasts over the weekend, how fun are these pancakes Matt made us?! Riese tried some (I spread a little peanut butter and yogurt on hers and gave her finger-sized pieces) and enjoyed them – I know when she’s bigger she will love these fun shapes! Matt’s parents gave him the animal shapes pancake mold for father’s day so he decided to work on perfecting his skills now so he’s a pro when Riese is older. 😉 I ended up having mine with fried eggs on top, and a little maple syrup! Plus the bacon.

And the other morning this weekend I brought back my old fave toast with cottage cheese, smoked salmon, and greens. Riese had a little cottage cheese with nut butter swirled in! Plus some strawberries (sliced into strips) that went unpictured.

Time to wrap this up and head out to an AnneTheRD nutrition client meeting. Have a nice day guys – and stay tuned for that recipe tomorrow!

Sounds like a fun weekend! Since Riese is sitting in hor own chair now while eating out, I'd recommend getting some disposable placemats to put in her spot. We use them for our daughter and I love them! You can find on Amazon. They're sticky so they don't move, she won't be eating on the dirty table and it makes clean up a breeze as you just peel them up so no smashed food left on the table for the servers to clean!

Yes to the placemats ^^ They are amazing. These are the ones we use. My almost 2 year old uses them, and he can’t pull them up (like other brands we’ve used). I love this stage when babies explore eating. Riese is just adorable! https://www.amazon.com/EXTRA-STICKY-Disposable-Placemats-Baby/dp/B00UZKH616/ref=pd_aw_lpo_75_bs_tr_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=3TM1JP7ZJ2R8VJDPKTVN

Just a note on the placemats. Totally a great idea, but all Brett does is peel them up making food go everywhere. I'm sure Riese will have better manners!
