Hello, friends! I hope you all had fun weekends. I spent mine in Pittsburgh!

As you guys know, Matt is from Pittsburgh and his parents still live there. We hadn’t been up since Christmas so we decided it would be fun to pay the city a visit when the weather was nicer! We had a lovely weekend. Here are some of the highlights. 🙂

Saturday morning began with a homemade egg frittata courtesy of Matt’s dad. He cooked some bacon in a pan, then sautéed some garlic, shallots, and spinach in the leftover grease. When they were cooked down, he added the bacon back in, plus some whisked eggs, let it set briefly, then added feta cheese on top and popped the whole pan in the oven to cook the rest of the way.

The result was delicious and pretty, as you can see! We enjoyed it with some fruit on the side.

After Matt and I went for a short run, we headed downtown! The weather was beautiful and we stopped for a quick lunch – a Greek pita wrap for me and Matt’s dad, and Primanti Bros for Matt – the infamous Pittsburgh sandwich shop that puts fries on their sandwiches. I tried a bite – delicious but intense!

From there, it was on to PNC Park for the baseball game – the Pittsburgh Pirates were playing the Washington Nationals! Hmm… who to root for?! 🙂

Beer + baseball = solid Saturday afternoon. The Nationals won. 😉

We had a fun dinner out that night with a big group of friends, then everyone retired to Matt’s parent’s house for smores – they have a fire pit that we all decided it was time to put to good use! So fun. 🙂

The final excitement of the weekend was hiking! Matt has been telling me about McConnells Mill State Park for years now, so I was really excited to check it out.

We headed over to the park with Matt’s parents yesterday for a fun hike and picnic lunch. Perfect day for it!

After hiking for about an hour, it was time for a late lunch. Matt’s parents are picnic pros. 🙂

Cheese, meat, veggies, fruit, bread, and all sorts of dips! So delicious, and eating in the woods always makes food taste better, I think. 🙂

With our bellies full and our legs tired, Matt and I hit the road back to DC. It was nice to get away for the weekend, but of course it went by too quickly!

What did you guys get into this weekend? Did anyone run the Pittsburgh marathon? I didn’t make it down there to spectate, but we saw all the starting line area stuff set up when we were downtown on Saturday!

Ah! I am from Pittsburgh and my brother ran the half yesterday, but I spectated the NJ marathon yesterday instead. My boyfriend (also from Pittsburgh-we met in Colorado and bonded as Steelers fans) and I explored McConnell Mills this past winter at Thanksgiving, after it had been like 20 years since we had been there as kids :) So glad you had a good weekend in the 'burgh.

I loooove Pittsburgh. Seems like it gets a horrible rep for some unwarranted reason. I looked at jobs there but alas, it was not meant to be yet, ha.

A fun filled weekend! I need to get out for a hike so bad! I was working through from Thursday up until this evening (7.30pm here now)...bank holiday weekend in Ireland. Incredibly busy but great fun with the food festival on in the village. Got in a 12.5km run this morning before work with the sun coming up though!

I ran the Pittsburgh Marathon yesterday...it was my first full and I finished under my goal time of four hours -- 3:57! :) It was a great (but very hilly!) city. Best of luck as you start training for your first full -- you'll be great!

Ahhh another Pittsburgh fan! My entire family is from the Pittsburgh area so we're all diehard Pirates, Penguins and Steelers fans. Too bad the Penguins were in NYC or you could have celebrated yesterday's win with the entire city :) Glad you had such a great weekend! I'm beyond jealous - I need to make a trip there ASAP.

I ran the Pittsburgh half this weekend! It was a lot tougher than I anticipated and I didn't PR, which was a bummer because I was really hoping to (recap: http://bit.ly/107eQpa). Congrats on your half last weekend, by the way!

I have been wanting to eat at Pirmanti Bros for years but haven't made it up to Pittsburgh yet. I grew up an hour and a half from Pitt so I love their sports teams and have been a bunch of times but have never managed to eat there yet.
