Sweaty Yoga + A Dishwasher Challenge

Hello my friends! I’m a little delayed in posting today because I decided today was finally the day to switch from my maiden name gmail account to my new married name gmail account. Um – who knew so much of your online life was tied to Google?! I literally spent the past 3 hours exporting and importing data (think calendars, google drive, google+, YouTube, email contacts, gchat, signatures, adsense… and more) and I think now I’m finally done. Whew! That was the final step in my name change process and I’m glad to be done. 🙂

Anyway! Before deciding to spend way too much time switching email accounts, this morning I got some work done and then headed to a yoga class at CorePower in Georgetown with my friend Gena.

When I wrote about checking the studio out for the first time a month ago, a bunch of you commented that I should try their hot yoga sculpt class – a heated power yoga class with weights! Gena also recommended it so we made a date to hit it up this morning, and man oh man… it kicked my butt!

We started with a normal yoga class but soon got into squats, cardio bursts, weights, and more squats. It was basically a boot camp in a heated room and I loved it! We were both dripping by the end and nearly collapsed on our mats for shavasana (the final relaxation pose in yoga). I can’t wait to go back for this class – I highly recommend it if there’s a CorePower near you! The class had fun upbeat music, too, which helped with morale. 🙂

In other news, yesterday I took the “Finish Rise and Shine Challenge”!

IMG_2934

I’d say I probably say no to about 90% of the review requests/PR pitches I get via email, but this one caught my eye because our current dishwasher detergent has been majorly dropping the ball, especially where flaxseed is involved. Our dishes were practically coming out dirtier than I put them in, even if I rinsed them first. So when I got an email about trying out the Finish Quantum with New Power Gel, I was on board.

For the challenge, I was instructed to make my messiest, stickiest breakfast. My Flour Free Breakfast Pancake (click for recipe) fit the bill! It’s really easy to make and doesn’t dirty more than one bowl (and a pan, but the pan doesn’t get messy), but ground flaxseed + egg leads to a sticky mess if not rinsed right away.

IMG_2933

A few minutes later and my pancake was ready! I’m so obsessed with this breakfast – I make it at least a few times a week!

IMG_2935

As part of the challenge, I was told not to rinse the bowl, so after I ate the pancake I just popped the bowl I used to mix the ingredients in right into the dishwasher without rinsing it. Ew.

IMG_2932

I wasn’t supposed to run the dishwasher until last night so that the bowl had lots of time to get all crusty. 😉 I ran the dishwasher overnight with the Finish gel and checked it this morning. I have to say – color me impressed. The bowl was good as new!

IMG_2945

Our glasses looked a lot prettier, too – we’ve been having trouble with them still looking smudged out of the dishwasher. So, I’d say the challenge was a big success! 🙂 If you want to try the product yourself, check out their website for a coupon. (Disclaimer: I received a free box of Finish Quantam for this post plus a Visa gift card to buy recipe ingredients.)

And now, time to get back to work on this rainy Tuesday! Stay tuned – I’ll share a new quick and easy recipe with you guys tomorrow. In the meantime, I’ll leave you with a picture of this poster that I spotted in Chop’t yesterday. I loved it.

Have a great night, everyone!

Literally going to go buy this as soon as I leave work today. I've been using a powder detergent and lately it's been getting all over everything and makes it SO nasty.. dirtier after going through a cycle that when I put in it! Slightly infuriating. I'll definitely go check out gel detergents! Thanks :)

I live in Denver and I'm absolutely addicted to Sculpt. It brought me back to doing yoga more regularly and Sculpt never ceases to kick my butt. All the classes are challenging yet doable, but there are some instructors who really kick it up! Do they have CoreRestore at Georgetown? It's usually a PM class. I took my first Restore class (after telling myself it probably wasn't my style for about 3 months). The class was at 9pm (way late) and I think we spent most of the class in legs up the way pose or laying down. It was a.w.e.s.o.m.e.

No core restore yet =( or regular hot series, just hot power fusion. I really wish they would, though, because I would love to do it after long/hard runs! Sculpt ALWAYS leaves me sore. Without fail. I started doing it when I lived in Denver, too.

That sounds like a great yoga class! It always weirds me out about what could be in the detergent powder to clean a dish like that. It has to be chemical based- which then I'm not sure if I want to use it.

Yeah, I agree about the chemicals - I was wondering that, too. But considering our old detergent was also probably super full of chemicals, at least this one actually works... :) That said - I would love to find a more natural product that works just as well.

Ahhh Chop't. I miss that place so much! Last year I moved from DC to a remote island in Alaska. My DC office was around the corner from a Chop't, and I ate lunch there almost every day. Now I literally dream about their Mexican Goddess dressing. Fresh vegetables are hard to come by out here, and decent lettuce is almost impossible to get (by the time it gets out here it's usually bruised and past its prime). What I would give for a Chop't salad right now! :)

Wow - Alaska?! How cool! At least you probably have really fresh fish. :)

Hi Ann, I have used Finish for the last year or so but I still put the liquid rinse in the rinse dispenser to keep my glasses coming out nice and spot free. I really enjoy your blog site.

Did you run the dishwasher on the normal cycle or a heavier cycle?

It's on pots/pans on the high temp/heat setting... it's just what I always use since I don't really understand our dishwasher. :)

Core Power Yoga sounds like a great class! I need to look for opportunities in my area to try it out, I love that they add some boot camp type moves to up the intensity!

yay! i am so glad you liked the sculpt class; some are definitely more challenging than others...it totally depends on the instructor. weights/cardio bursts/lunges + heat = exhausting (and kick ass). i'll be sure to pass along to CPY corporate that our georgetown studio is getting good feedback :)

When we bought our fancy Bosch dishwasher, the manual actually recommended the Finish. It has been AWESOME! I still can't convince my husband that dishes don't have to be rinsed first, even though the dirty ones I put in the dishwasher come out as clean as the ones he basically cleans first, hah. We also still use Jet Dry as a rinse agent to keep glasses sparkly, if you have trouble with that.

I stumbled onto the Finish detergent a while ago - it was an amazing sale and I couldn't pass it up. I LOVE THEM! They work so well, I don't want to ever go back to my old detergent again. Wish they had something similar for my gym clothes!!! ;-) Thanks for the coupon, now I can stock up again.

I'm actually very impressed with the dishwasher detergent. Our dishes come out dirtier than when they went in usually. I'll have to try those next time. The yoga studio by me has a heated sculpt class - I'll have to try it out!
